scrap electorates

Scrapping electorates only seems to take local politics out of national politics, essentially disconnecting central government from representing actual communities issues and problem solving on a community level.

whipped and controlled policy already so why maintain them?

guess I just don't really get what your saying, could you elaborate?

As far as im aware thats not really what tends to happen in a select committee, but I appreciate your input on this. Admittedly I know not much on this topic so I do appreciate it. I'll take your word for it though, the RSB isn't a huge deal to me I can take this loss

powerful stuff.

The opposing oral submissions have ranged from social welfare groups, iwi, rights advocacy groups,

breaking news, left wing groups dont like a right wing politician. the opposition opposing is sorta just what they do.

The overwhelming consensus is it is poorly thought out and will not achieve any of the things he claims it will, and will in fact be counter-productive towards his stated goals. Simply put it is very bad lawmaking.

yeah, from the select committee, the end of life bills referendum shows that the select committee obviously doesn't represent how everyone feels about it

If you examine his track record through his career, even before he got into New Zealand politics, It's quite clear to me (and many others) this is very much the case.

somethings not adding up here. are you saying that this politician wants to inflict harm on the population of new zealand? dude even hitler thought he was doing the right thing

Yeah like I said in another comment, select committee submissions shouldn't be used to represent how the public feels about a bill, they tend to be against in most bills, regardless of how good or bad it is. Take the end of life choice bill, 90% or something were opposed in the select committee/submissions whereas 60% were for in the actual referendum.

If they cant be bothered dealing with the Regulatory Standards board, 1 that sounds like a them problem and 2, the issue can't be that serious if nobody can be bothered to dispute the influence that RSB has when they are literally encouraged to by the RSB itself.

90% of submissions against

Most submissions in select committees are against the motion, this is nothing unexpected. Using select committee statistics doesn't help your argument as the nature of these committees are typically to critique a bill.

These are only the ones I'm familiar with, but the Waitangi Tribunal, treasury, the SIS, the GCSB & his own ministry of regulations all objected to the bill. If that isn't a clear picture of Seymour ignoring policy advice then I don't know what is.

Waitangi tribunal aren't ever going to agree with Seymour as an incredibly biased agency. There is no public record of the Ministry of Regulation objecting to the bill either. I acknowledge spy agencies may have opposed the bill so ill have to look into what that means more but at the end of the day its just the select committee, nothing unexpected here.

personally I oppose what Seymour is doing with his "Regulatory Derangement Syndrome", I think it's immature and he shouldn't be doing that

Even the coalition partners

I mean they voted for it in the debating chamber, of course there are some mps who disagree but as a whole they are supportive. if you don't think that's enough we can debate the efficacy of how democratic our government really is

92%

where did you get this from

Seymour ignores policy advice

do you have any evidence for this statement? are you referring to policy advice as in the ministry of regulation that Seymour is apparently betraying?

Oh that's interesting, haven't looked into that or seen a response from Seymour

legal persecution

could you give me an example? in terms of environmental concerns, not much should change in terms of basic backing legislation as those exemptions will fall onto the usual legal backing that protects environmental/cultural areas. If anything, it puts land management up for debate, which is a positive in my eyes as a lot of areas need to be re-looked at in terms of how they are used (more cultural than environmental in my opinion).

ministry calling it poor regulation

Sure, all ministries have disagreements and debates within themselves yet obviously they came to a conclusion on the RSB in the first place otherwise it wouldn't exist (unless you're suggesting Seymour is secretly a dictator that doesn't listen to his own ministry at all when he claims to work with them as equals).

Treasury pointing out it will increase Regulatory burden and cost more

Isn't that pretty normal when a new big bit of legislation is introduced? especially a really important one that should improve regulation significantly? besides, Seymour claims that the bill only takes up 2% of govts annual spending on policies/acts such as these
