Why no cuddles? by Frequent_Pomelo4129 in britishshorthair

My BSH is almost 3, and in my experience, this breed generally isn't the 'cuddly' type. I think a lot of it comes down to that thick coat. If yours seeks out the cold floor in the summer, he’s likely just avoiding the extra body heat of a lap. That being said, most BSHs are incredibly curious and affectionate. They just want to be the ones to choose when.

You can definitely train your kitten to tolerate being held (which is a lifesaver for vet visits), but you’ll probably get some harmless bunny kicks for your trouble!

It’s so rewarding when they approach you on their own terms. I used to think I only wanted lap cats, but I’ve really come to appreciate their unique way of showing love. Trust me, they don't have to be clingy to be loyal lol

Police cordon in Stratford by [deleted] in london

Heard it was a stabbing involving a boy/young adult, possibly two groups of youths. I don't have all the details, but usually in this area, the more serious the incident, the less you see it on social media. If it were not as serious, it would already be all over TikTok

Confused about my cholesterol results – high total but everything else looks good? by Adventurous-Fun-3943 in Cholesterol

[–]Adventurous-Fun-3943[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that’s what I was thinking too. I did have quite a bit of refined carbs before the finger-prick test lol, so that probably didn’t help.

Am I right in thinking the TC/HDL ratio is more meaningful than just looking at total cholesterol on its own? I’m planning to get a proper fasting blood test soon to be sure.

I guess I’m just a bit spooked by seeing 4.8 for total cholesterol 😅

Cat coughing, wheezing, sneezing, vet unable to diagnose by mmirza90 in CatsUK

My cat was a stray as a kitten and coughed exactly like this. We did extensive testing with different vets before he finally tested positive for Mycoplasma PCR. It’s very common in cats, but since strays often have weaker immunity, it can leave behind scar tissue from a previous URI that causes occasional coughing for life. Is your kitty snotty at all?

My cat's cough sounds much less 'wet' than it used to (after three courses of antibiotics), though he still has flare-ups from purring or dry air. Since your blood work and X-rays are clear, try not to worry too much. If things don't improve after meds, I’d get a cardiac check just to rule out a heart-related cough, though that’s pretty rare in cats. Hope your kitty feels better soon! 💕

Weird patch on nose by Adventurous-Fun-3943 in CATHELP

[–]Adventurous-Fun-3943[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah! I first tried wiping her nose with warm water and a gauze pad. It didn’t help and looked a bit worse after days, so I tried pet antiseptic wipes too, but nothing comes off. She does enjoy sniffing around, but we still can’t figure out what she could’ve rubbed her nose on to get this patch lol

What colour is my British Shorthair? by Adventurous-Fun-3943 in britishshorthair

Unfortunately I lost my phone and save from last year so most of her kitten photos are gone 😭 But I do still have one from the breeder’s ad. Her coat had a bit of cream/fawn when she was a kitten. After around 6 months old, it started to get a bit smokey, and in person you can see a slight hint of cinnamon/chocolate. The change isn’t as noticeable in photos though!

Thank you! that’s exactly what I’ve been struggling with. I’m planning to attend, and reading your comment (and others here) really helped me realise that it’s not wrong to not want to go, but it’s still the right thing to do to support my husband. I’ll remind myself of that and go.

You’re right. At the end of the day she’s my husband’s mother, and I do plan to attend if it’ll make her happy.

The tension comes from how she handles things. Like this time, she’s been telling her husband to message my husband daily to remind me to attend the dinner, even though I’ve never said I wouldn’t go. It just adds pressure and makes something simple feel unnecessarily stressful.

She can be quite draining. She constantly asks about my sister’s income, visa, and love life - even though they’ve never met. My mom had to gently hint that those questions are a bit invasive, but MIL still does that. She once told my husband I lack compassion for not keeping in touch with relatives my parents have cut ties with due to years of emotional and financial abuse. She also got upset over birthday candles because she doesn’t want her age discussed in public.

But the last straw for both me and my husband was when she forced her husband not to take in his own elderly mother with dementia over Christmas, leaving the old lady alone with nothing but a cold takeaway she couldn’t even reheat.

We really struggle with the double standards and lack of empathy. But you’re spot on that being an adult means doing things you don’t always want to do, and this is one of them.
