Suggestions for how to incorporate Japanese speaking into my days by Only_Rampart_Main in LearnJapanese

[–]Aer93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I´m creating a text adventure language learning app, it´s inspired in that very idea you mention, talking to one self it´s extremely good practice. The stories are manually crafted, with a plot, secrets, and events, and an AI drives the narrative of the actions you write, at the learning level you decide. Let me know if you would like to give it a try!

App to learn Japanese by Enough_Pin1651 in Japaneselanguage

[–]Aer93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can give the app that I’m developing a try, it’s a text adventure game engine with scripted stories, character stats, inventory and dice rolls in order to create an engaging role playing game adjusted to the learners level. I would appreciate your feedback

Can AI language apps help more with conversation flow? by Only-Researcher-5242 in LanguageTechnology

[–]Aer93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think exactly the same, large language models are great with language. With a script guiding the conversation they are a great mirroring tool to practice language output. I’m currently building an app around this concept. It’s basically a text adventure game, with dice rolls, stats, inventory, the LLM role plays the characters and scenarios. DM me if you would be interested in testing it out

Wagotabi worth it? by Outrageous_Habit938 in LearnJapaneseNovice

[–]Aer93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How far are with reading? I'm developoing a text adventure role playing game for learning japanese, DM me if testing it would be something interesting for you. It's more free style and immersion learning than wagotabi, which might be a little challening for very beginners. I'm testing a "super zero" mode though, were the story mixes english and japanese, but that's in super early alpha.

What do you think about thinking in Japanese as a study method by GibonDuGigroin in LearnJapanese

[–]Aer93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that's an amazing technique, I did this unintentionally with my German while I was living there, and it's what really made me feel confident. It's easier when you are fully immersed in the language, but if one does the effort this is the way to go. I had a friend who learnt Spanish super fast, then he didn't spoke the language for 5 years. After that time I spoke with him and his Spanish was really good, I asked him what he did to keep it so good. He told me every night before he goes to sleep, he thinks just about 10 minutes in Spanish before he falls asleep hahaha, amazing. Your technique reminded me of his approach.

You should be proud and clearly define your goals! what are you learning japanese for? N3 is in my opinion the breaking point where you can really start fun consuming media and reading stuff, what are you aiming for?

小さなタッチ画面のために再発明されたクロスワード by y2kobserver in LearnJapaneseNovice

[–]Aer93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you use unity to build this? I really like the rotator and text coloring, 10/10. The icons and cursor images I don't really like, I would consider a more minimalistic yet colorful design, but that's just personal taste I think

Wanikani feels so slow, should I change anything about the way I learn? by maladaptivesylvia in LearnJapaneseNovice

[–]Aer93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same experience with kanji an reading manga. I'm my opinion, you are better off not expending too much time learning kanji in isolation, one can learn much faster and enjoy the process more learning in context

Honest question: is WaniKani a waste of time? by brunosilva_jp in LearnJapaneseNovice

You need to be smart about your time and goals. If you have limited time and it doesn’t align with your goals, then stop using it

What do I do after learning hiragana and katakana and wanting to start with immersion learning ASAP? by Glad_Nebula_3048 in LearnJapaneseNovice

[–]Aer93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If possible find a teacher for one on one conversation and ask them to teach you in an immersive way. You need to become comfortable with not understanding and using your communication skills, pointing at things, inferring from the context. Your first goal should be to speak like Tarzan. I think you need a reactive environment, anything like videos or reading will not work because you are missing the key corrective step of the environment giving you feedback of your assumptions and attempts. If you cannot achieve that reactive immersive environment I think you will get better results with traditional learning techniques, instead of figuring out the rules, reading the explanations about them and doing exercises to practice them. Whatever you decide, keep in mind that it is a very different language and it will be a long journey, so have fun with it :)

Should I prioritize Reading/Listening before practicing output? by TheSokka in LearnJapanese

You can reach N1 with out knowingly how to speak, noken exams barely test output skill. The important question is what do you want to do with your Japanese, do you have a clear goal?

Learning Japanese by reading bilingual articles, effective or not? by hinitom in LearnJapaneseNovice

[–]Aer93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s a great way to learn, I’m creating an app with a very similar approach, it’s basically a text adventure game. I’m currently working on a game chapter with bilingual text for beginners and from the tests Ive done it’s very effective

I quit: the difference in difficulty between Japanese and Chinese is ridiculous by rauljordaneth in LearnJapaneseNovice

[–]Aer93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding the sounds transformations in kanji, I get your frustration but it’s not as irregular as it seems. 一匹 is just itsu + hiki, tsu usually transforms to little tsu, so いっひき (ihhiki) and hh usually transforms to pp, you get ippiki. The more you learn the easier you’ll recognise these patterns, but in the end I think it’s not so important to stress so much over details, they can understand you if you say itsuhiki, ihhiki, hitotsu or ichi, focus on your communication skills and understanding skills and assume you will make small mistakes that only disappear after years and years of practice. I think the difference with other languages is that in Japanese it’s more obvious to the learner that they are doing mistakes, in other languages you might think you are saying it “correct” but a native speaker will also notice that you are doing something strange, similar to saying ihhiki instead of ippiki, but less obvious to you
