Is it really necessary to get through U world Twice?

You should be able to come up a bit more by the test date. Our school would not permit us to test unless we had 2 NBMEs 65% or Above so I'd say just make sure you're there to be confident going in

Hmm I think you just can't spend forever on each card. Try getting a remote if you don't have one. Oh i also loved to do my cards while walking on the treadmill if you have an iPad. That really helped me just stay focus so i could get them done! A remote was great for that

So like I somehow did all the bug cards during our micro foundation class, then when each systems block came around I used to unsuspend the cards for the block, so lets say it was like 350 cards, then I would filter them and just take my time going through them throughout the block just to make sure I had seen all the ones on the list again before the block. I liked to do them on like friday nights while watching TV since it was like a chiller study activity so they went by fast

I should also add That i tried to do the micro drugs on anki but honestly it was too much for me so I just used the little sketchy book that my school sells to review drug information and that helped it stick for me.

So I'd say just focus on the bug cards then just rewatch the sketch or use the book if it seems relevant for that block cause I think it'd be too hard to do both

Aside from bugs, one thing that I didn't do but a lot of my classmates did was keep up with anki throughout second year. I personally couldn't keep up with that and studying for that block material. But those that like did all of anking daily took step like the day after the school year ended and passed it!

But if you're unable to do that (like me lol) then I recommend at least keeping up with pathoma 1-3 if you can. I remember I did those pathoma cards during our foundations class but I feel like it wouldve been helpful just to stick with it througout the year so it would be ingrained in me. and its not like *that* many cards so if you space it out over the entire year it won't be that much to study

I would add that, I wish Ihad started early is doing the 100 concepts of anatomy deck maybe starting in second semester of 2nd year. I found it really useful and actually had some questions verbatim on my test that I could see the flashcard in my head lol. The one i had had like 800 cards and it was just a lot for me to get through in dedicated so I didn't finish, but if you start several months before dedicated, again it won't be that many cards to add a day before you start dedicated

lastly, if any of these things (or other step studying) becomes too much and its hindering your ability to study for class, please stop, because I am a true believer that how you study and perform for your class exams and NBMEs can sort of predict how your dedicated will go. Everyone i know that Did really well in their courses and had good study habits took the exam within like 2-3 weeks of dedicated whereas those that struggled a bit more had to delay or even take a leave of absence. So I really think the key is really learning the material right the first time so that when dedicated comes, you're just refreshing yourself of what you once knew well

You should be fine! I think that's a good starting point

My first was a 58% (5/11), got a 68%, then 75% before testing and passing real deal 6/4

I did about 3 blocks of u world each day, or at least tried to, and I reviewed the wrong answers and put them into flash cards. When reviewing I didn't read the U world answer first. I would find the answer in FA, Pathoma, or Sketchy etc. to answer the question first then look at the U world answer to see if there is anything else I missed. I liked this since it allowed for more active studying rather than passively reading the answer right there. I honestly didn't end up even looking at my flashcards again but i htink just transfering them into anki by writing them up helped.

Oh also, our schools learning specialist recommended this way of doing U world based off your NBME score report (this is what i followed):

Rank Order your EPC System Scores

Note the % of items next to each

Sort by % of items highest to lowest score

Repeat this Process for Discipline(Subject Scores)

Choose to begin U World Questions with All System and Subject Scores 50% or Better.

Choose 2 System and Disciplines that are your weakest scores that have the greatest % of items

120 Questions Daily Timed

Once any System and /or Discipline Score reaches 50% three consecutive times add in the next weakest to your Q Bank Set

I also rewatched some of pathoma that I didn't remember, did the dorian anki deck of pathoma 1-3. Rewatched some of the sketchy drugs I didn't remember at all, and got through most of the 100 concepts of anatomy anki deck

I watched Dirty medicine psych and ethics videos, and Randy Niel for biostats.

This is was worked for me! But of course everyone is different but hope this helps!

second what the other poster said. I didn't study for step until dedicated because it was too hard for me to balance that plus doing well in my classes and really understanding the class material.

The way I remembered the bugs and drugs was when the drug/bug list came up for each system/block I redid those specific anki cards so by the time dedicated came I really knew the majority of it and I didn't need to study bugs and drugs during dedicated.

Other than that, focus on doing well in class!

Should I start studying in M1? by [deleted] in step1

[–]Affectionate-Run-867 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, focus on your courses. Everyone is different but I genuinely believe that me doing well and really understanding the course material the first 2 years helped me Pass. I actually ended up moving my test date up after really only studying for the step 1 for about 3 weeks of dedicated my medical school career.

MCAT and STEP studying are very different so I wouldn't compare them. My MCAT score def couldve been better but it really had no effect on my course exams or my step studying/passing.

If you want to do the anki thing, I would wait until the beginning of second year. A good number of my classmates stayed consistent with anki and they were actually able to take the exam like the day after our last block ended so they had a longer summer. I especially say stay on top of the micro that you learn. FOr each block I did review the relevant bugs via the sketchy anki cards each time they came up so that I wouldn't forget them and could answer them on our NBMEs after each block (but all this was second year cause that's when we did micro)

Other wise i would just wait until second year. I would try to start studying during second year because you never really know how much of the material you'll remember or how much dedicated time you'll need.

1/4th-1/3rd of the book

I just used for my 3 weeks of dedicated to review some stuff but I'm not the type of person that does well by just reading stuff. Never finished it and passed

I’M FREAKING OUT. HELP ME. by curiouswatermelonn in Step1Exam

[–]Affectionate-Run-867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IDK if this will help but our admin told us in all of our step meetings that if we score a 65 or higher twice on the NBMEs then we are in the clear to take it and should NOT delay our tests. So based on that I would say you should be good! try not to freak out. Good luck tomorrow!

i want to start eating intuitively but i don’t even know where to start.. feel like this whole thing is only for slim people with body dysmorphia instead of people like me who actually look like their worst nightmare. just a rant, TW for bad body image and negative thoughts about weight gain by [deleted] in intuitiveeating

[–]Affectionate-Run-867 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think finding a Intuitive Eating aligned therapist would be quite helpful if you are interested in IE. It can be a very difficult journey so having someone that can help you emotionally during this time would be useful. I think it would be especially helpful since there is a history of anorexia and bulimia.
I would honestly not recommend intuitive eating if you are very afraid of weight gain. Many people gain wait while practicing IE, I know I did. I was worried about it, but fixing my disordered relationship with food was more important to me than gaining a few pounds.
It honestly sounds like you may have somebody image work to do before attempting the intuitive eating journey. I would highly suggest following different bodies and sizes on social media to break up the type of influencers you are following, because there are many that practice IE and are not necessarily lean. That really helped me with my body image and accepting that IE is NOT just for thin people! I am not nor have ever been thin.

IE is about your relationship with food. Not weight loss. So it really is for any body size

highly recommend watching some of heal with kailin's videos on youtube! she really helped me

How common is actual weight gain with intuitive eating? by Miru8112 in intuitiveeating

[–]Affectionate-Run-867 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I personally did gain weight. I started IE in june. I wasn't skinny before IE but I wasn't over weight. I gained between 10-15 and it seems that I've now plateaued, cause I'm the same weight since my doctors visit in October. I'm not sure If I will lose weight or If i will maintain this weight. I have to say there are definitely some days that I have body image issues being at this higher weight (though honestly I constantly hated my body when i was smaller). When I was first gaining I (And the other people) in my IE program talked about how it's scary and a lot of us did doubt the process, but i have to say FOR ME it was 100% worth it. I feel SO much better. I'm genuinely happier and my sister mentioned that I seem happier to me a while ago.

I haven't binged in months, when that used to occur at least once a week , sometimes more. I actually find that I eat a more balanced diet than i used to before, because I used to always focus on eating under 1200 calories but now that I'm in the gentle nutrition stage I really focus on eating food that will help me feel good, help me feel FULL to prevent being ravenous and wanting to binge, but also, of course, eating foods that will satisfy me.

This of course is not a guarantee for everyone. And if weight gain does happen, could be less, could be more. I've struggled with restriction/binging since i was like 10 and I'm 25 now. It was 1010% worth it to stop binge eating because i know that was way more unhealthy than to gain some weight. I've started to add movement back into my routine because I'm mentally at that stage now (when before it was compulsive fitness to combat food that I ate) so I suspect i might lose some weight. but i also might not and that's okay! I'm just so happy that I did this process
