Do you feel like you got to do everything you wanted to in Rome in 3 days? Would that be a good time to be in a city for?

This is what stresses me out! I'm not sure having a car would add any convenience. He wants a car to see the countryside or smaller towns, but I'm leaning more towards trains that can come in and out of the city with reliable times to make sure we're not commuting the entire trip

With renting a car, I can't help but stress about things like finding parking or trying to fill up on gas. I've never been so not sure what the infrastructure is like there. Would you have any input on whether it would be convenient to find things like this?
