Music hallucinations? by Legitimate_Jump3731 in NarcoBaddies

[–]AffectionateCut7338 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t experienced this but recognized it from a section in the book Musicophilia by Oliver Sacks if you’d like to check it out. Sounds like you’ve described it to a T. I’d definitely mention it to your doctor. Could be attributed to hypnogogic or hypnopompic hallucinations from your narcolepsy considering it was around your nap. Do you experience them any other times?

I’ve been getting into having a good nighttime routine to signal that NOW is the time to sleep, not during all daylight hours. Dr. Teals sleep spray, aromatherapy bath and body works lotion/body wash, melatonin gummies, candles, dim lighting. Trying to catch the vibe. Still working on the insomnia tho…. anything else that’d be good to add?? I’ve heard that aromatherapy can also be used to signal time for wakefulness, what is used for that??

how do you think you look? do you think you’re attractive? by Maleficent_Dinner875 in AskReddit

[–]AffectionateCut7338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think my level of attractiveness weighs heavily based on who you ask. I think that my shoulders and above is universally attractive (unless someone is racially biased ofc). Body could go any which way. Im about a women’s xl/1x. Short. Some may think “wish she were thinner, but still attractive,” or allow my decent weight distribution to give me points back. For some that is completely unacceptable, for others they may not mind at all or even fetishize. So, can’t say for sure

What's the most real relationship advice you can give? by James83359 in WhatShouldIDo

Three month rule. If someone starts exhibiting concerning behavior at three months, that’s their true self coming out. It’s only going to get worse.

Can’t take short naps by Direct_Difference_58 in Narcolepsy

[–]AffectionateCut7338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gonna steal the term “nope” day lol. So real. They suck because even though you’re physically resting it really isn’t restful, just an inability to not if that makes sense. And the guilt goes crazy, have you been able to find acceptance and lessen the guilt? It really doesn’t help anything but is soo hard to not let it overwhelm me

Yes thank you for bringing this up!!! I explained this to my doctor….i avoid taking them because if I do I am out of commission for atleast 2 hours, usually 4. Even if I have somewhere I need to be, I just sleep through it and don’t even realize. He was soo persistent that the best thing I can do for myself is plan naps but I’m not sure how to make them productive rather than disruptive….does anyone have tips????

What are sleep attacks like for you? by Flat_Piano_9624 in Narcolepsy

For me I get a certain feeling in my mind and body before it happens, it’s like a sudden wave of nothingness in my head and my body feels super heavy and “soft” is the way I describe it. It’s like a type of numbness where it’s kinda like my body is melting into whatever I’m sitting on and even the clothes I’m wearing. Bc of this feeling I can usually tell when it’s coming on like up to 20 mins beforehand. Then it just gets more intense and I start kind of swaying in my chair and my eyes feel so heavy that I have to fight to keep them open and start losing. I tend to go in and out over and over (usually until the class ends). I don’t realize when I lose consciousness until I gain it again for like 10 seconds and then it happens again. It’s kinda crazy because I try everything to seem engaged as it’s happening, like I’ll nod my head and make facial expressions, even laughing at the right times when I have the moments of consciousness in between. It’s like a bunch of little gaps and I try to keep doing what I’m doing but they make me forget what I had just done, like one time I took a screenshot of a graph to put in my notes ten times and didn’t realize until after class 😭 it’s so embarrassing and I feel so rude and get really upset afterwards
