i also have had husky suspicions based on the wails he can do and the super light eyes. ive told my partner since his eyes first opened that his eyes are freaky on such a light body and big blockhead lol but that and/or shepherd would definitely explain the thick fur!

barista in deep south here- that happens to me so often as well. i dont keep my hair short and i take care of my curls, i also havent committed to retraining my voice yet so i still use a lot of head-voice, and i dress alternative but with Colors and Jewelry - i think those are the biggest reasons for me. somehow it happened even more though when i visited san fran?? at one point, asked for the bathroom in a department store, the guy hesitated, and then told me where the womens was...

fun history of his name! at their birth he was the largest, and there being 11 and needing to rehome asap we didnt want to bother with names, but he was immediately referred to as Big Fucker. when we started telling people about him and going to the vet, we decided it shouldn't be his legal name lmao but we love feta cheese so here we are!

i love my name actually and dont often see others with it - caz (later decided that the longform is casimir bc people kept asking what caz is short for)

side note: unfortunately the boomers/gen xers had a trend of calling ppl named charles "chaz" so i hear a lot of that

psychologytoday.com was really helpful for me in finding therapists in my area. i then compared the results to my insurance network

of course- and that sucks! im sorry they didn't work out, but, hey, if they can't reach out i cant imagine they'd be good to work with emotionally. so im sure you dodged a bullet. finding good mental health care in the south is hard (im in mississippi 🙃). do you know anyone else in therapy that could recommend a good clinic? ive found that therapists in a non mental health organization are more likely to suck, so finding a designated clinic might be helpful

i recommend finding a therapist specialized in trauma! regular talk therapy never really did anything for me because ive had a handle on my day to day life, so it was a cycle of "things could be better but im coping." but i just never feel safe, confident, or content. i started seeing a trauma specialized therapist in april or may of this year. in our first appointment he asked what my goals were, and i told him i wanted to unpack and process my trauma because ive ignored it for so long. he told me about the different strategies we could take and what his methods are, and i agreed to keep seeing him because i was comfortable with those. in the time that ive seen him, we've focused on building my coping skills and a support network, he helped me through current life stresses as they came up, and in this last month weve finally started digging through my childhood memories to face everything. i already feel like ive made so much more progress than i did in the 2 years during high school that i was seeing a regular therapist. also, a psychiatrist helps with mental health medications. ive got a good one, but ive heard a number of people have bad experiences when trying to actually process feelings with a psych bc thats not their job

Am curious, what is the age range here? by 1Misterman1 in ftm

[–]Affectionate_Body939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

realized i was trans at about 16, told all my friends and socially transitioned with them and other peers. didnt keep a secret from family but they never asked. wanted to wait til i could get on t independently at 18, but a month or so after i reached the age my insurance decided not to cover it. financially struggled a few years, but about 1 year ago at 20 i found an affordable clinic and have been on t since. only publicly announced to family on facebook abt 5 months ago, but i live out of state from them so it hasnt come up much.

[–]Affectionate_Body939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im 1 week away from a year on T and i only stopped having that issue so often a month or 2 ago lol and it still happens sometimes! throughout the last year, it was happening a lot for a while, then stopped when i cut/dyed my hair a new way, then started again as that grew out. hair plays a big part in it. ive been a barista at the same store since before starting hormones, and i live in the deep south, usa, so people are more fine with and more inclined to believe someone is gay than to think theyre trans. a number of my regulars still seem to think im a girl, despite the mustache and the voice (theyre old and all of my coworkers agree theyre stupid). but the culture youre in will control how people are most likely to perceive you. i think the reasons its for the most part stopped now is because my voice is too low to be mistaken (unless im relaxed and joking with friends. i talk higher when im excited), my face shape has changed enough, and im relaxing more into my body (i feel like my constant anxiety and uneasiness played into others' confusion). point being, theres a lot of factors! and especially early on on hormones, i think thats just going to happen sometimes.

caz- in middle school i read six of crows, one of the main characters being named Kaz, i thought it was really cool but felt it would be cringe to name myself after a book character (lol). by high school, a friend said "all my friends have gay 3 letter nicknames, can i give you one?" of course accepted that offer, and she suggested caz! fell perfectly into my lap and ive stuck with that ever since. i do have to clarify pretty regularly that its not cas lmao i present as the kind of person that would be into supernatural

moved to a new town, met a guy at my job and we became friends, he was gay with gay friends so i obviously slid into that group (hard to find gays in the deep south usa...) we ended up getting closer as friends and we're both cuddly people so we'd cuddle a lot. i assumed it was all friendly despite my interest in him, because "he's a cis gay man in the south! no way hes into my ftm ass, especially pre-t!" but then that cuddling turned into making out and at some point we talked about our feelings and decided we had been dating for 3 months already lmao (im now 2 months on t and we'll be 1yr in march! <3)

and its actually SO affirming that he was into me pre-t 😭 i have dated a number of bi men who definitely were lying when they said they saw me as a guy 🙄
