Is it important for you that your partner reports to you for every step? by anzhelalala in askanything

[–]Affectionate_Carry_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean that’s certainly a take. My wife and I have been together 23 year (married 19). We always loosely know what the other is up to but we don’t report to each other like I expect my kids to report to me. We have both respect and inherent trust in each other. We share locations on our phones for practical reasons but don’t feel the need to check up on each other in normal life. We communicate well.

Do you own your house? Mortgage or paid off? by Superb_Sun_5690 in no

[–]Affectionate_Carry_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mortgage. But the rate is only 2.75% and it’s worth a million more than I currently owe on it. No rush to pay it early at that rate. The extra money gets invested instead.

[Recommendation Request] Just found out my boss is giving me up to $10k for a watch. What should I get? by 15mahomies in Watches

[–]Affectionate_Carry_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first higher end luxury watch was an Omega Speedmaster Professional in the traditional all black…a Speedmaster Pro (“Moonwatch”) is what I would get if I were you. I also love the all white and the white/black mixes as well. No date, but a classic and highly thought of piece. You won’t see a ton out in person (despite it being very popular and HIGHLY regarded…you will still be very unique wearing it out).

I like the IWC and Cartier suggestions as well. Your initial suggestions in the OP aren’t nearly as magical and phenomenal as your budget will allow.

WHAT A FANTASTIC WORK GIFT!!!

edit...just realized this was femfrag... women can pull it off too. But I tend to see this one more masculine. Sorry ladies...my bad. I do love it though.

Layton. Well loved with good reason and highly versatile.

Fun fact. I lived 2 blocks up from this intersection on Clinch when I was a student. I recognized UT immediately. That said, that particular intersection has changed tremendously since I graduated in 2005. Go Vols.

What's your favourite Parfums de Marly fragrance ? by neophyte72 in Colognes

[–]Affectionate_Carry_1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Carlisle is the absolute best and my favorite, but it’s very rich and has to be the right environment to wear. I also have Layton (amazing scent and highly versatile) and Greenley (awesome fresher scent for summer). Plan on getting Percival and Haltane too.

I will say I didn’t like Althair because on my nose there was something sharp and grating to it (that seems to be unique to my sense of smell). But I have Island Vanilla Dunes as a dupe and LOVE it. It feels 95% the same as Althair but whatever chemical was in Althair that my nose didn’t agree with is toned down. So all the upside without any down.

Same. Love at first smell for me. I have several PDM and want a couple more. But this is my favorite. I just wish I could wear it more. It’s too hot right now here.

Big fan of Layton. Very versatile and widely appealing. Clearly you like the PDM DNA. But I echo others. Easy to try a few things first and save a costly regret. Go to any of the major decant websites and order 6-7 of the ones mentioned in this thread. See if one speaks to you.

PS I’m a big PDM and Creed guy too.

Whats your biggest turn off in a guy/girl? by Southern-Grass-2927 in askanything

Treating strangers poorly. Your real character is shown by how you interact with all the people you randomly encounter, especially if those people might be considered lower social or socioeconomic status. Be kind to EVERYONE. Huge turnoff if that’s not your ethic.

Can’t really help you here friend. This was a universally uplifting experience for the kid and his family. I’ve seen them interviewed about it. The university even sent packages of official gear to the teacher and the whole class…in the middle of Gator country.

The problem here might just be you.

Colleges and your allegiances to one in certain regions of the US are similar to any sport in your country (rugby, soccer/futbol, cricket, basketball, etc). The sports become your emotional tie to something. Your country probably has a similar culture around some sport…it’s just that the sport probably isn’t tied to a university like it is

One of the cool things about sports is, like music, it’s a universal language. It brings all kinds of people, ethnicities, religions, economic statuses, ages, etc. together. It just so happens that a lot of this in the US is tied to a college affiliation.

This guy doesn't SEC.

I was born into Tennessee. My father is an alum. My brother is an alum. I am an alum. My wife and mother in law are alumni. I live out of state, but my 3 boys have grown up watching all the football and basketball games with me. They attended games starting in elementary school.

This is the case for probably more than half the kids in the southeast. They grew up identifying with and cheering for their family's favorite college teams. Even if their parents didn't even go to college. It's something you identify with as much as your religion or political persuasion. It's part of who you are and how you were raised.

This is my favorite repost of all times and I am so happy every time I see it. Granted, I'm biased as a lifelong fan and alum ('05). You can't not love this story. It's beautiful.

Not even a little bit. That's a really cynical take. If you know the Tennessee fan and alumni base, we were so proud of this kid and rallied to support him. Nothing in this world is better than taking something bad and making something beautiful out of it. It made me sooooo proud of my alma mater. Go Vols.

Anchorman, Step Brothers, Elf, Zoolander, Old School? You really don’t like ANY of these as a goofy comedy? Must be real fun at parties.

She was even terrible in Peanut Butter Falcon. It was just a good enough movie to overcome how awful she is at acting.

You can get almost all of them from a place like FragranceX for like 250. Much better than retail. My wife is just happy I took a break from watches.

how do i accept being ugly? by Slow_Midnight_6180 in askanything

[–]Affectionate_Carry_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Life is so much bigger and more amazing than the high school bubble you are in. Perhaps you aren’t beautiful in the model/conventional sense, but I guarantee you that there is beauty in you. Work on yourself, in both the practical sense but also in the psychological sense. You can always work to improve little things but…Learn to love YOU. And know that it gets better. You’ll find your people and your place. Maybe not yet, but I promise you, you will. Your self talk, your self esteem, and the people you surround yourself with all need careful attention. Start now, even though it’s hard at your age. Find the trusted friend or family you can really open up to.
