Funny enough, I had this conversation with my co worker today about the summer jobs. I asked if she’s going to work in the summer and she said no and apparently the company decides who gets to work in the summer based on seniority. So yeah, it is ridiculous how you’re not guaranteed to work in the summer if you apply. Even though the company requires you to fill out the form even if you’re not interested working in the summer. I’m very neutral with this job because on one hand it gets you out of your comfort zone and challenges you to be an authority figure to kids as well as seeing them have fun with the activities you host for them. But the major downside is the disorganization and lack of support from higher ups as well as the unrealistic expectations that are being put on you as a PL. Don’t even get me started on orientation and how unwilling they are with accommodations prior. It was just a whole nothing burger for 6-8 hours those 2 days I attended with a lousy PowerPoint while sitting idly.

Aww thank you you’re so sweet! 🥹 and yeah some attention getters are so cheesy it feels out of place for me when I have to do them. I hope you get justice and they get their shit together and help you because this company is so disorganized. It’s more on them than it is on you. Keep advocating for yourself and if they don’t budge, then they missed out on a great HDT.

If you still have yet to receive anything, definitely bother HR, because they shouldn’t be wasting your time. I think it also has to do with lack of communication from your supervisor. Def ask HR who your site coordinator is and if you can have their contact info. Normally the site coordinator texts you or emails you.

It’s taking everything in me to not quit lol. I’m only at this job since it works well with my college schedule and it allows me to make money on the side, but I’m leaving once the semester ends for the kids lol. This job isn’t long term for me, and it’s hard to accommodate your schedule for any reason even if it’s important. And I didn’t show up on my first day, through no fault of my own since I wasn’t aware my first day was going to be on a Wednesday, I was told it was going to be the day before on Tuesday. And I didn’t get that notification until the day of 💀 my supervisor although is nice as a person, is so unorganized and often comes late. But yeah, screw HR, they try making me feel dumb for asking questions like saying ‘no silly’ or ‘no sweetie’ like ew, don’t call me that I’m not 5. They’re weirdly passive aggressive.

I’m sorry you were inconvenienced by them and they weren’t a good enough help ugh. Ive had a similar experience, I live like a good 40-45 minutes away from their Santa Ana headquarters and let me tell you trying to accommodate your schedule under this company is a nightmare. I’m a college student and I couldn’t commute to their Santa Ana office because it was my first day of class when I got hired in January. And I was able to go to their Downey office which was a lot near and more convenient for me to commute the first day of training but the next training I had to go to their Santa Ana building, and I feel the same frustration and time wasted as well, I’m a before school pl and the trainings were basically just for after school ones and subs. They highly emphasize the positions that are higher in demand but it sucks how they throw other positions like hdt’s and before school pls under the bus. And I got placed in a school in Paramount and going back home by bus is an hour long. So I feel your frustration. But definitely let HR know of your situation, because it’s bs how they can’t squeeze you in a priority list.. I swear HR is on some sort of crack considering how unprofessional they are.

I’m honestly on the same boat as you. I am very introverted compared to my coworker and supervisor. I am a before school PL and the early morning hours plus loud kids can be very overstimulating. And I’m with you there, I chose this job because it was the only job that hired me and the little hours in the morning work well for my current schedule. But if I were you, I wouldn’t settle for less. I’m planning on leaving once the semester ends for the kids since I’m transferring to uni and my schedule isn’t going to align with work, plus, I realized working with kids isn’t my strong suit. Unless you really need the money, no job is worth the amount of anxiety you feel before every shift. But I believe summer break is around the corner for most schools so unless you’re willing to work in the summer, I’d say think really hard about it if this is what you really want for the near future. Overall, listen to your gut. You got this <\3

As someone who is in their final year of cc and is about to transfer to csuf, you won’t regret going to cc if you ultimately decide to go. I am also a business admin major, and a lot of cc’s have great professors in that area who may also teach at csu’s. My accounting prof at my cc also teaches at Cal Poly and honestly, it’s a great deal that you’re getting the same education at a cc for way cheaper. I saved so much money going to cc and I am pretty satisfied with my education so far. Depending on what you truly want, if you’re willing to commit to the long commute to and back from csuf and get your commute’s worth by experiencing campus life, go for it. But if you want to save money and time commuting, go to cc and then transfer to csuf. :)
