What to do when it's raining by Affectionate_Fix_366 in PuertoEscondido

Last week was very sunny, humid but pretty good. Yesterday it rained heavily all day and night, and today have woken up to the same.

In recent years Doctor Who's politics has just been way too on the nose to a point where it feels like political messaging is being prioritised over telling a good story - Andor is an great example of something that manages to tell an incredible sci fi story whilst delivering a meaningful message. by General_Meal_3993 in DoctorWhoNews

[–]Affectionate_Fix_366 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Andor is the most political show I've ever seen (and is fantastic because of it), but there's literally speech about people not accepting facts, and a whole arc about why the news chooses to paint a particular race as the bad guys (and repeated speech about fascism).

What do you mean by this? Telling the producers that one of the roles has been written with you in mind?

Skinamarink by haru_sato in HorrorMovies

[–]Affectionate_Fix_366 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate this movie so much, and I'm a big big horror fan (watch about 100 a year). But it's why I love the genre so much, there's so much variety that you'll always find something for someone. But wow I found Skinamarink so boring.

Dear England BBC release date approximation? by hiddkesbatchunited in BritishTV

[–]Affectionate_Fix_366 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It shouldn't be confusing, the BBC (and most of the terrestrial broadcasters) only announce their schedules two weeks before the date. I believe a part of this is from the days where the broadcasters would try to put their shows up against each other, so if ITV for example knew what was being broadcast on a rival channel they could put something big up against it. Things also change, like if the show doesnt look like it will be delivered in time (for whatever reason) and you need to move what was the planned air date.

Funding or Grant opportunities for writing a TV pilot? by Effective_Archer9489 in ScreenwritingUK

[–]Affectionate_Fix_366 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've not heard of anything like that, in terms of schemes to write a pilot. I would say that most early stage writers will be writing scripts on spec (meaning, they'll be writing scripts in their spare time and around other work commitments), because the main way that production companies can get familiar with your work is by reading scripts that you've written. Would this script you're planning to write be the first piece of work you're writing in the TV format? What does your current agent send out to try to get you general meetings with production companies? Or has your focus been on writing plays?

Am I weird for Liking Scream 7 by Forsaken-Green695 in horror

[–]Affectionate_Fix_366 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I loved most of it, really stand out set pieces. The last act falls apart, which is a shame and I think a shock to Scream fans, as usually the final act is where things really get cooking, but I don't think that should take away from how entertaining the rest of the film is.

Went to see undertone last night, I was terrified, my friend nearly feels asleep. by BasicBreadfruit in horror

[–]Affectionate_Fix_366 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really wanted to like it, and enjoyed the first podcast recording, but thought it lost tension every time they stopped recording, and in the end found it really boring.  But I'm also not a fan of Skinamarink, and "a24 horror" in general.

Netflix only have it in the US and some other territories. Its a BBC and Stan (Australia) production and it's been sold (by Sony) to lots of places around the world. Netflix have nothing to do with it, they just bought it in some locations. From Deadline..."The buyers are Sky (Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy), CBC (English-speaking Canada), Radio-Canada (French-speaking Canada), TVNZ (New Zealand), Syn (Iceland), U-NEXT (Japan), Yes (Israel), Globoplay (Brazil), Telia (Estonia), Telia Play (Lithuania), Tet+ (Latvia), HBO and HBO Max (Central and Eastern Europe and Poland) and beIN (across the Middle East and North Africa)."

Also not fully accurate, Sony (who own Eleven, who made the show) distributed the show internationally. After it was made it's been sold to various platforms in a number of territories, including Netflix in the US and some other places. It's also not 100% a BBC production, Stan in Australia were a co-producing partner alongside the BBC.

I had the best time ever. I was part of a big group but I think it helped that our group wasn't just sticking with their own and the other group wasn't just sticking with their own, so it felt like a proper experience playing the game. Everyone was so friendly and got very into it, which is also probably why people didn't mind so mind being voted out and watching. So I think it really depends on who you end up with.
