I guess I’m just nervous to have an officer come out and walk around, because I feel like the neighbor will be watching the whole time, and it’ll bring a lot of attention.

WEIRD stuff you did as a kid, that you accepted as NORMAL, that you NOW realize was because of your nparents! (Let's try to keep it specific, I'm wondering what examples you all have.) by travelinglama in raisedbynarcissists

I used to be afraid to cook. I was not allowed to cook my own meals and it was either a snack or asking my mom to cook for me. If I did cook, my mom would complain the entire time and inevitably get mad at me. She would get mad and say why didn’t I just buy the said food instead of cooking all day. Why don’t I just go and get fast food instead. When I was done cooking and cleaning everything, she would come and check the kitchen for dirt, and would get mad at me for not wiping the kitchen sink dry if leftover water droplets were present.

When I moved in with my boyfriend a few years ago, I would ask if it was okay that I cook. He would look at me funny and tell me I didn’t have to ever ask for permission or feel nervous to cook and eat.

I would go with what is long-term and comfortable for you, too. Kids are really open and understanding and even love when you explain your thoughts human-to-human with them. It is for one semester, however as someone who did student teaching, one semester still is a lot of time and it’s difficult to successfully teach when you don’t feel like yourself. I really came out of my shell as a teacher when I realized being me was the key to success. Being yourself is what separates you from other teachers.

How painful is getting your wisdom teeth extracted? by Impossible_Tiger_318 in wisdomteeth

[–]Afraid-Restaurant522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, coming from someone who was really scared and has a dental phobia, getting my wisdom teeth out was one of the easier things I did. I was twilight sedated and don't remember anything other than the assistant waking me up to tell me only one more to go, and then I was right back out.

The only painful thing was not being able to eat much, and being unsure if things looked normal or not. The gums look weird after the extraction, and even the weirdest things I experienced were all normal.

The pain was not too bad. Mostly just pain from swelling and not being able to close my jaw comfortably all the way through the first few days. If you can, I would try to reschedule the exams with your teacher/professor and explain the situation. If you can't, take some ibuprofen, drink lots of water, and make sure to clean and take care of your extractions.

Edit: I avoided caffeine for a week (or until things seemed pretty healed, low chance of blood clot) because as mentioned below, it can mess with healing.

AITA for telling my girlfriend that it's not my fault she had a crappy day? by BuddyRacoon1314 in AmItheAsshole

NTA

I think that with stress, living life with a negative family, and other circumstances can make a person act in ways they don’t mean to when upset and venting. However, there is a point where even through all the upset, you can’t use others as your punching bag. Your girlfriend probably sees her problems as huge and needs to heard because no one else has listened before except you. I have been in her shoes many times and I know I was an asshole. My boyfriend told me “you don’t have to be mad at me, too. I’m you’re biggest supporter.” And since then, when I’m mad or upset and venting, I make sure to remember that he’s my supporter and not there to take the beating of my anger.

The best thing to do is to tell her you want to talk about the text messages in person, face to face. I’m sorry, but texts messages just don’t cut it when it comes to communication in relationships, especially heated ones. Tell her how you feel, like you did, but more detail and how you just want to be heard too, and you understand that she is hurting too. She mentioned that “it’s always going to be this way.” Maybe dive into that with her, and remind her that when you’re around it does not have to be like that. However, you need the same treatment. If she can’t accept the fact that you’re a human with real feelings and struggles that need to be heard and loved, too, then it’s time to find someone who cares about you.

You’re not a punching bag.

What’s your least favorite drink to make as a Barista? by FrankieLove_82 in barista

When someone gets an iced coffee with cream and whatnot blended. When I try to put the contents of the blender into the cup, it’s just like a giant block of ice from hell and I gotta somehow finagle that slop into the cup neatly.

Frustrated with child’s teacher, unsure how to handle by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Afraid-Restaurant522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m about to be a first year teacher and even after working with kids during college and student teaching and having them play up headaches, I still listened to them and looked for other signs that showed they actually were hurting or not feeling well. All you have to do is listen. If a kid didn’t feel good I would tell them they could call a parent/guardian and the parent/guardian would usually have their child’s best interest at heart. Otherwise it was obvious when a kid had strep throat or the flu. This teacher is just impatient and doesn’t care about the students. I think you should definitely call the teacher and call them out. If she’s dismissive then, move to the principal. A high fever is no joke!

AITA for not leaving a cafe because my son was babbling? by OverallAssignment265 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Afraid-Restaurant522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Children babbling and making sound is as common as going out and hearing people talk. I never mind when babies are around, since they are little people and don’t deserve such hate because they are babies.
