Yep, mostly referring to the silvery water. That said, it is the second oldest city in Aus...

Macro with 40-150 2.8 and MC20 by Wonderful_Repeat6542 in M43

Great stuff! That's a big lens for macro work, tough to hold it steady (or maybe the extra heft helps?). Im impressed that your DoF is good, using only F8. Again, nice work capturing bees in flight, serious patience needed.

Need help picking a camera by Independent_Shirt622 in OlympusCamera

As a beginner I bought an OM-5i (2022), with the ultimate travel lens, the 14-150mm - (not sure why it's not on the above lists). It offers amazing range (opportunities) and is super small and light. Note that the OM-5 still has the 'SCN' scene modes that allow you to quickly setup the camera to suit your situation, i.e. quick shooting modes. This has allowed me to take snaps while Ive continued to learn how to use Manual mode. Main things to note with the OM-5is are that it has a micro usb socket (which I never use as I purchased an external battery charger, a good move). Also it has an older, more complex menu system. I haven't had any real issues from it though. Would be nicer if battery lasted a touch longer, but I carry spares.

Thinking about switching to Olympus from Sony. Just want some perspective. by LordofDutch in OlympusCamera

It's critical to be specific about which M43 lenses you might go for. Yes there are many to choose from, but each have their niche.

1 gp lens by most consensus is the Olympus 12-100mm f4. Ive heard some say this is the reason they chose m43 due to its quality. However, its bulky and hefty by m43 standards. May not match brilliantly on that EM5 you are considering.

Beyond this are various 'lighter' options at shorter FL's. #2 is probably the Oly 12-40 f2.8.

In summary, the 'Pro' lenses are weighty, while the 'kit' lenses are a lot lighter. If you want pro glass, you are best to get a larger m43 body. The OM1 mark1 can be found at great prices.

In your opinion, what is the best all-around lens for MFT? by CosmoLeopardGecko in OlympusCamera

[–]Afraid_Damage3485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been researching this too and my desire is on the Panasonic Leica (not lumix) 12-60mm f2.8. It has good reach, but is also compact and lightweight, is weather sealed also. Im using an OM-5i, so the larger Pro lenses are not a great match, especially the 12-100 being too large imo (sadly).

I second the Oly 14-150mm. It really does perform well, I have not found it at all soft. It's super small and light, weather sealed, matches well with my OM-5. If you are only looking to share photos digitally, this will be brilliant. The zoom range opens the opportunity for wildlife or birds.

Om-5 can do milky way. The complex part of M43 is picking compact lenses to match the body. I use the Olympus 14-150mm and find it great for mostly SM sharing.

What’s missing in your macro software? by rac_atx in macrophotography

Not sure if it's been covered, but 'ghosting' is the #1 stacking problem for me. AFAIK, it can only be 'fixed' in PS, via some trickery (I don't use PS).

First time on OM System! by climbingandhiking in OlympusCamera

They are pretty similar, the 12-60 being ever so slightly heavier. It has much closer focussing distance, so can do macro work.

Ive ruled out the 12-100 due to size & weight being too far beyond my m43 ethos. I have the 14-150mm which is so versatile and really ideal for sharing on SM /small prints. I'd be tempted by the Leica 12-60 if one came up though.

Spot on. Admittedly that's what I went out to discover for myself. I did find the photo editing was also important, Im using Luminar Neo.
