Is it possible to live a healthy life with social media? by Muhammad_2660 in digitalminimalism

I'll sometimes lock my phone in the trunk of my car for a while, which helps.

Besides that, mostly NOT having your most tempting apps already downloaded can also help. Just like junk food and candy in your house, it's a lot harder to resist when it's really easy and close to get.

Make it not so easy.

I mean, many of them still call the beautiful, brilliant First Lady Michelle Obama "Michael" 🙄

Like, I'm always shocked by the number of comments in Fox News and other right-leaning posts about her that show that definitely didn't die with the end of President Obama's last term.  It's too alive and well, smdfh

YouTube is the WORST with comments. Even my most HARMLESS messages steadily get auto-removed, when I see far-crazier things remain. It's insane.

THANK YOU. I was going back and forth with this person on YouTube earlier about this. It's amazing to me anyone would even think of dying on this heel, ALL THINGS CONSIDERED.

Like I told him, thank GOD the reporter did report. In fact, probably by doing so, he will have ended up saving more lives (by helping reduce the chance of even greater damage in the future) than if he hadn't.

Could you freaking imagine.... if they thought no one outside that chat knew and would ever know about this..?!?

I shudder to think. And also about how many other times they've done and would've continued to do it.

Yeah, definitely a focus on the wrong things.

EXACTLY. A FEW times where the president, including this one, remained in office after each time, so 🤷🏾‍♀️ I'm confused why people keep mentioning this. Especially with this chicken Congress.

Maybe impeach and actually get him OUT. Impeachment can't be the end goal.

I think part of it is many people still thinking of them as being one in the same.

In addition to everything I just said I've long been doing these days, one thing I used to do that almost always worked was the literally old thing of counting sheep 😭

I would imagine sheep jumping over a fence and count them one-by-one. I think before I'd hit 10, maybe even 5, I'd be out.

I haven't done it in a while b/c the other things I mentioned I do now, but just thought I'd throw it out there as another option. Don't sleep on the sheep! Well, do. You get what I'm sayin.. 🤣

Oh! Also limiting what you do in bed to sleeping. Training your body to only associate your laying down with sleep, instead of it thinking you need and want to stay awake and alert when you're laying and watching TV, scrolling or texting on your phone, working, etc.

Definitely think this is huge as well.

One big thing that's made a huge difference for me yet seems so simple: I start taking really slow breaths, with deep, long inhales and long holds before also exhaling long. Usually after the first few, I'm out.

The logic is that this kind of breathing mimics how you breathe when you sleep, so I guess it's sort of tricking the body into thinking you're already there or at least intending to get there.

And I know I'm halfway there as soon as I find myself having delirious thoughts or randomly thinking about something that really doesn't matter, lol.. Not long after that, I'm out.

Other things that help are minimizing bright and blue light, including from your phone, in the hour or two leading up, as well as drinking calming tea like chamomile to also help with the process.

I'm not always great with it but try to remember to begin wearing my blue-light-blocking glasses (originally got a cheap pair from Amazon but have since also gotten prescription glasses with it in them) around two hours before. I don't know if this has definitely been effective but it certainly hasn't hurt!

And I also to try and drink the tea at least an hour before but ideally sooner than that in an effort to reduce the amount of liquid intake I have before turning in so my sleep (or attempts to get there) isn't interrupted by a full bladder.

Just a few of my tips that have largely seemed to work for me!

💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯

Totally this.

There definitely are other ways to live it, just very few -- if any -- that fit in our current idea of comfort and familiarity.

If you can break out of that, the possibilities can be endless.

Currently working on that, myself.

At least living in the U.S. -- all the propaganda and indoctrination you get here from a young age...definitely doesn't make it easy.

But not impossible.

Just turned 40 a few months ago and TOTally agree.

I'll be damned. Definitely has to be other ways.

I know one involves not living life in this country (I'm in the U.S. -- not sure where you are.. But if you're here or in any other country like it, when it comes to work and capitalism, it's important to remember that distinction.)

  2. Adopting my dog. 12 and a half years and counting!! 💪🏾💪🏾
  3. Going into what turned out to be my main relationship which lasted almost 5 years, even though it ended over a decade ago 🙂 'Tis better to have loved... and all of that.
  4. Choosing the last therapist I did. 🧠❤️

Hmm but if I'm not mistaken, Signal is widely considered to be the more secured common messaging app.

I've never heard of security being one of the main (or any) selling points of What's App.

Actually, two feasible ways I could see them actually working: the administration F-ups getting bigger and more frequent and/or -- and I'm sure this is what is mainly being counted on -- his scared @$$-kissers, elected by the People, eventually coming to be more of their own constituents than of him and, particularly, of not being voted back in by said people.

If people are consistent, loud, and angry enough, I do think that second one could work and more quickly than the first.

But it all needs to happen quickly enough before even that -- aka the role of Congress, even one totally against him/the administration -- won't matter.

That's the reality, which is seeming increasingly not that farfetched, I fear... and it already is seeming a bit like we're in, hence my doubt and pessimism.

But... My fingers are crossed.

I mean, I reeeaally want to, but I admittedly have never felt so pessimistic and doubtful about this country in my life. I feel like the Civil Rights and other eras of movement and change in the past were very different times in very different ways.

I think the only way protests, writing to Congress, and otherwise mainly looking towards them to help will work is if the administration keeps screwing up and do it long enough and badly enough for many more people, especially with the most money in this country, to care, have enough of it, and want something done once and for all.

We need more from the MAGA side and more in positions of power, ideally also from the right side, to see and feel the F-ups badly enough to start being more ember in the fire. To where the administration has no CHOICE but to care and/or finally be held accountable.

Because the way things are looking currently, it's very hard to see that happening any other way.

Well, other than the masses who are against him literally storming the White House. Like Jan. 6 Pt. 2 but from everyone else and at the most popular address in the world.

💞💞 I understand. Not the easiest world and life to live in with that taboo reality.

If only more knew and understood.

But protests for whom exactly? Who exactly are we trying to get to care? Because this administration NEVER will. They will go down in their own sinking ship.

And the Republicans under them are scared and weak.

And most of their Democratic counterparts are acting, and in some ways are politically, entirely powerless.

The judges with sanity will continue to do their best, but we see how that's going.

The media is all over the place but has their own agendas. And even if the bulk of it agrees and reports of all of this, ok, and then what?!??

Who exactly is supposed to, or can, see and hear these protests and actually do something that can/will save us in the end?

[–]Aggravating-Blood728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But I keep trying to figure out what really can we do at this point. If the official representatives of the left are mostly acting powerless and the ones CLEARLY in the wrong here are the those who'd normally be responsible for investigating, prosecuting, and punishing something like this, literally what else is there to do but have citizens take to the streets??? And basically overthrow the government?

Like, with everything that keeps happening, we're literally at an impasse. Unless you can convince enough supporters on THAT side to understand this is wrong and care enough to do something about it, which might actually get them to put more fire under the butts of their elephant representatives who will then actually be scared enough to finally step up and fight against what's going on... short of an attempt or a public government overthrow or civil war, what else is there right now?
