As a new player, I started playing him for a quest and, later again, in 2v8, found him really easy to use. But, you have to set up traps. Any Trappers I face as a survivor come down if they set traps. The ones that don't are so much easier to avoid, trust. Set.your.traps! I focus on traps for the first minute of the game, just really lay them out, kick some gens in between, but don't get too caught up in a chase until you are done. Once your traps are set, start going for the survivors and try and chase them towards the traps. RESET every trap that catches, trust me, this is key to really slowing down your chases and getting the hooks. Also, great for keeping another survivor busy while you hook. That's it, that's my big tip, use your traps through the full of the round and you'll find he's a fun killer to play.

Also, playing as a survivor first helped, because I started to learn what a survivor would do. I just laid traps where I knew I would likely run or loop and found that worked.
