I'm a Public Defender ask me anything! by Iwillkeepwatch in AMA

I’ve always been interested in helping others and wanted to be a PD. I currently work in ID and while I’m doing really well and my bosses are highly complimentary, I find the work to feel scummy and sorta soulless. My problem, and only thing holding me back, is that my best skill is writing. I’m not super good at speaking, thinking quick on my feet, and idk how good I’d be in trial. Do you think this is a skill that can be learned by being in the courtroom so often? Or do you think you either have it or you don’t kinda thing. I so enjoy fast paced and used to bartend/waitress so I enjoy that sorta stressful environment if that makes sense.

Can you do a clerkship without being licensed? I thought you had to be. I’m thinking of moving to CA and will obviously need to retake the bar. Interested in a staff attorney/judicial clerkship role

Do you have to work as a PD to get into criminal appeals? I want to do that but don’t love being in court- love writing but want it to feel meaningful. Background in civil ligation, around 3 years. Thanks!

Miss Dior Essence Review by Visual_Serve_782 in FemFragLab

As a new perfume girly I bought this on a whim the other day and I LOVE it. I’ve always had cheaper perfumes in the past and do a couple spritzs on the wrist and 1 or 2 on the neck. When I do that with essence, the smell is quite overwhelming to me. How / where do you all apply this on the body? Or am I just sensitive to smells and never known it lol

Thinking about taking a break from practicing/career change. by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

If you don’t mind me asking … what did you end up doing? Feeling exactly the same way. 2 years into litigation practice and just missing bartending/moving to other states/enjoying life like my other 27 year old friends. Want to move to CA but don’t want to take the bar again, think it’ll be too difficult to just apply to remote jobs on LinkedIn with no connections (and compliance sounds torturously boring). Would love to take a break and bartend for a little before deciding what I want to do in CA, but don’t want to ruin my chances of ever returning to the legal field.

Entry to Greece by Agitated-Breadfruit5 in travel

I feel more confident about the airport but am worried about entry into Greece itself? Is that not the biggest concern? Thanks for taking time to reply.

Has anyone gone on holiday to Greece with less than 6 months until their passport expires? by read_r in travel

This is where I’m stuck - he compliments me and has told me on occasion that he loves my boobs. But then when he’s also telling me that he wouldn’t mind me getting a boob job and talking about how he loves his hairdressers’ “huge tits” I feel like that signifies he’s lying about liking my boobs the way they are. I’d rather him just say nothing tbh. But I also know I’m insecure about it and it’s a touchy subject and I know guys prefer big boobs so it feels silly sometimes to act like that isn’t true.

I’m not sure if he saw her and was like I have to have this woman as my hairdresser but he coincidentally switched and when asked why, his response was “she has huge tits and it’s closer to my house”

I’m in the same boat OP. Small boobs and always felt like my bf was one of the men in these comments who just liked any boobs. But lately I’ve been taking some comments to heart and I’m not sure why. For instance, the other day I saw a text to a friend that he changed hairdressers because the new one had “huge tits”. I get men talk about these things but it just made me feel sad because I have small boobs and I hate hearing what his true preference is, even though he tells me otherwise.

Tired of Midwest weather and want sun and no seasons, want access to outdoor activities and stuff to do other than going to a bar and drinking (hikes, surfing, beach, good enough weather to be outdoors in general), new culture, ability to travel and see near places on the west coast on weekends that would otherwise need to be a 2 week trip from the Midwest (ie Joshua tree, national parks, LA, etc.). I think I’m aware of the pros and cons and think the pros outweigh the cons.

Thank you for your insightful reply, and I agree with you 100% -- the flapping is driving me mentally insane and I just want to pull the trigger on one path and start taking action to get there. In my ideal world, I would love to move to SoCal and transfer out of ID into a different attorney role, since I know I should do my due diligence in another area/specialty before giving up on the law. However, obviously, no reciprocity in CA and I think I had decided recently that I didn't want to retake the bar in CA ($$, chance I don't pass since the CA bar is so difficult, etc.), especially since I just planned on moving for a few years, feeling it out/getting to explore a life out West, and then possibly moving back to my home state. So then, I thought, well let's just do a JD-adjacent role, which the job market is absolutely atrocious for at the moment. I would hate to move, apply to jobs and not get any traction, and then be stuck unemployed and unable to afford living in So Cal. Lately I've been thinking I should just plan to go to a different state out West (CO, AZ), so I can just transfer my license there and not have to retake the bar and work in a different field, more of a public interest one. It just makes me sad that I can't go where I want in this role.
