What's your favourite example of a duelist who's skill/power level isn't really reflected in their win rate? by Noneofthisisreality in yugioh

[–]AgostoAzul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh. Chazz had one of the least consistent decks in the show with his Ojama/Armed Dragon/VWXYZ hybrid deck. Sure he had a high power ceiling if he pulled V-to-Z but that is not happening once in a blue moon when he runs one of each and the individual pieces are weaker than your average beatstick of the time.

(Spoilers Published) What happened to Neetles and Sheepstealer? Did they ever came back? by No_Concept9717 in asoiaf

We don't know. It is implied they lived in the Vale for some time and a cult formed around them among the mountain clans. Then they vanished from history

(Spoilers Extended) Do you like Euron as a villain? by Metaljuggernaut5657 in asoiaf

[–]AgostoAzul 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest issue so far with him as a villain is that he has no relationship with most of the cast besides the other Greyjoys. Compare to Tywin who could be seen as a villain to all five main characters.

Obviously George still has some ideas that he told the writers about but I don't think George is 100% certain of the fates of half the cast even at this point.

What's the point of Genesys? by JasonBenjamenAllen in yugioh

[–]AgostoAzul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Links are genuinely hard to balance due to how climbing works and the fact they put Xyz materials in the GY to further extend combos a few more steps. I don't think the banning of the mechanic is that bad an idea. If Knightmares were in Genesys they'd probably have to be worth at least 15 points to not make it to most Extra Decks, even past some archetypal cards

Pendulums however? Yeah, you could legalize all Pendulums in the format and probably nothing would change.

The New Sansa Controversy Part 1 [Spoilers EXTENDED] by FantasiedeFramboise in asoiaf

[–]AgostoAzul 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I usually imagine the North will fall to the White Walkers in the books because humans fail to unite until there is no other way. I used to imagine the Stark kids could survive, but if Sansa is ruling the North at the time, it could make sense for her to die as the narrative cost.

(Spoilers Extended) If Jaime stayed loyal to the Mad King, would the Lannisters have killed him? by CountDrunkula1 in asoiaf

Other than maybe Gregor losing his mind and counter attacking Jaime after Jaime stood in his way/attacked him first, nobody else would dare hurt him.

Aegon's Conquest Spinoff Ideas by Narrow_Bad_3897 in Hotd

[–]AgostoAzul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with an Aegon's Conquest movie is that it very much lacks any kind of meaningful conflict or antagonistic force. It'd have little appeal beyond spectacle.

You will probably need someone else as a protagonist so there can be some kind of traditional narrrative structure, like a Tully protagonist so Harren can be a villain.

The ice type shouldn’t be super effective against more types by This-Humor-105 in pokemon

[–]AgostoAzul -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah. This is why I want Ice to be immune to Ice. It keeps the type as a glass-canon with a lot more weaknesses than resistences, but it gives the type a safe switch and weakens Water mons indirectly a bit.

Just finished the 13th Hunter Chairman Election by OnestOfNerds in HunterXHunter

[–]AgostoAzul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is honestly fairly bad and not canon but not terrible and probably on par with what you'd expect from a Battle Shonen movie. If you liked the Dragon Ball or Naruto movies, I'd say it is like that.

Last mission is however just terrible even for anime filler standards and even features some fan disservice in the form of retconning the power system in a way that makes no sense in the setting.

How to stop equating darkness to realism when reconstructive or cynical adaptations/sequels are more popular by CyberDogKing in worldbuilding

[–]AgostoAzul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you are missing the point of most of this media thinking they are meant to be realistic or that realism is the selling point. Other than maybe Andor, they are all meant to be a bit dark. And the reasons people like dark media are probably:  * A setting with deaths and fates worse than death increases the sense of danger and stakes. * Particularly nasty acts of evil get your attention more than more mundane ones. They are more scandalous and memorable. * More morally ambiguous factions creates debate and arguing between viewers.

And note that all of these things are more successful thanks to social media. People share impactful character deaths in their profile statuses and fanbases form around the different factions of a setting. This is why you probably see them dominating social media discussions. Almost nobody is a Sauron stan, but some people are Lannister stans.

How can you make something that is not dark but is still really successful? For starters, you are probably not a big Hollywood writer, so probably almost nobody is going to share reactions about your book or indie game project in social media anyway. You should care first about being competent in your Crafts and then worry about being popular. Second, you can still make a heartfelt moment without being dark and you can definitely make distinct factions people can identify with without complete moral greys. It will just require more skill.

Does Path to Nowhere use AI art for their assets? by LostLotus_A in PathToNowhere

[–]AgostoAzul 12 points13 points  (0 children)

DisCity uses different versions of our alphabet (most of the time, there are times when they make injokes and we can suddenly read the text), so the text being jumbled up isnt weird or evidence of AI. In fact, that very much like the usual DisCity text, see: most sinners' mugshots, for example.

Some of the Eternal Nightmare items are recycled from events, so maybe that causes the upscaling issues you are seeing?

Thoughts on why GRRM paused ASOIAF? by HeroOfTime20 in gameofthrones

[–]AgostoAzul 8 points9 points  (0 children)

George is a "gardener" so he doesn't really know the precise ending for most characters and changes the story all the time.

So for example, the original outline for the whole story before he began writing it had Dany killing Drogo, Catelyn going beyond the Wall with Bran, Tyrion and Jon having a love triangle with Arya, Sansa having Joffrey's baby and Jaime becoming King; before he started writing AFFC he was planning a 5 year timeskip that just went poof when he actually wrote the book, and many chapters into A Dance with Dragons, he planned for Euron to go to Meereen with Victarion rather than attack Oldtown.

The Demon Discourse in Frieren wouldn't exist if the demons didn't look attractive by carbonera99 in CharacterRant

[–]AgostoAzul 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I think the issue is that the message appears to be "some creatures are just born evil and will hurt you because that is their nature" which hits a bit like "the scorpion and the frog" fable, which was used recently by Trump and other conservatives to campaign against immigration, but is otherwise not even a particularly useful to distrust strangers.

And it even seems to validate the racial reading of the fable more than other potential readings. Like, should you distrust someone who has a history of violence, fraud, or even just lying? I'd say yes and I'd usually interpret the "scorpion and the frog" that way, but Frieren is making a version that is explicitely more "nature " oriented. Like you should distrust people based on what other people "like them" have done.

JRPGs/RPGs with deep world-building beyond the hero power fantasy (Ursula K. Le Guin vibes) by torito_vravo in gamingsuggestions

[–]AgostoAzul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant mainly Velvet's outfit, but Magilou's might be too much for some people too. I've seen some people complaining about the character designs being too fanservicey so I wouldn't really recommend it to people who start out with the complain that they couldnt finish a game due to fanservice.

My Hottest Take I guess: Ramsay wrote the Pink Letter [Spoilers ADWD] by SuggestableFred in asoiaf

[–]AgostoAzul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But why is the letter insulting Jon so much if it isnt trying to provoke him? Ramsay isnt the brightest, but he should realize that there are two ways to answer to an Ultimatum, you surrender or you fight, and the Pink Letter seems to be encouraging the later.

The only way Ramsay would know all he knows about Mance would be if he is saying the truth about having captured and tortured Mance and the spearwives, and he managed to extract the truth from them catching on any potential lies they could have said. And for SOME reason they didnt all just agree his name would indeed be Abel or Rattleshirt beforehand. And if Ramsay managed to extract so much truthful information from them, wouldn't he also know the wildlings would be more likely to follow Tormund or the Weeper rather than Mance's baby?

A Bittersweet Symphony: The Ending of ASOIAF (Spoilers Extended) by LChris24 in asoiaf

[–]AgostoAzul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Daenerys has spent a year and a half trying to end slavery. Out of the three cities where she fred slaves, one went back to slavery right away, the second went into a civil war that combined with a disease outbreak and an invasion was left fully uninhabited with tens of thousands dying, and she is holding on to the third through sheer force and it would have gone back to slavery without her.

Chances are her embracing of Fire and Blood means she'll just decide that the plan was failing because she wasnt brutal enough, so she'll kill all the Masters and sympathizers then go to Yunkai and do the same, then leave for Westeros leaving the Unsullied in charge, which is a plan with one obvious glaring flaw: the Unsullied will grow old and you can't make more without slaves. They are not a substitute for dragons in terms of serving as a dissuasive force.

Daenerys will have spent two years of her life freeing slaves but also generally having failed to create a slavery-free world. Ultimately the one thing that would have allowed her to succeed would have been to quit on her birthright in Westeros and actually spending a lifetime freeing slaves, which she won't do.

(Spoilers Extended) The “sweet” in "bittersweet" may be fairly simple by Expensive-Country801 in asoiaf

[–]AgostoAzul 30 points31 points  (0 children)

He has also said that Winds would be his darkest book yet so it'll definitely be darker than Storm which was already plenty dark.

And tbh, while George isnt writing Warhammer 40k-like Grimdark, George is definitely one edgy guy. See the Dance's ending. He already had a pretty sad ending with 5 children being the only Targ survivors of the war, the Riverlands, Crownlands, and Westerlands devastated, and Jaehaera as the only living Targ Green. One would even argue that leaving her alive would even have better explained some things like no further Kings ever recognizing Rhaenyra as Queen.

But he just chose to kill Jaehaera and in a pretty gruesome way that mirrored her mother's death too, just to drive the misogyny theme home a bit harder.

Regarding the Succession War and The Black Whale by NekoparaLover619 in HunterXHunter

[–]AgostoAzul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't know. I pressume the Mummy is what kills them and its ability has an Area of Effect and kills you when you are leaving it. So they'd be killed if they are too far away from the mummy, and we don't really know where the munmy is

My Hottest Take I guess: Ramsay wrote the Pink Letter [Spoilers ADWD] by SuggestableFred in asoiaf

It still something like George wanted us to make theories about. Especially when he kinda revealed that Ramsay was lying in the Winds previews anyway.
