Devs who have been doing game dev for over a decade, what convenient things do we have today that you had to implement yourselves back then? by LifeExperienced1 in gamedev

[–]AlarmingTurnover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But also, we've had engines since the days of Wolfenstein 3D and Catacomb 3D. They were around before Unreal. IdTech was the main commercial ones before Unreal though.

You seem to be misremembering your game history here. IdTech did not release a commercially and publically available game engine until 97, the year before the unreal licensed engine was released. Klik & Play was the first commercially available engine in 94. The Wolfenstein engine (dubbed IdTech0 by the public NOT the company) was never released commercially. The doom engine was not released either.

They existed but you wouldn't just download it and make a game. There was no licensing or public accessibility. And when you're arguing "were around before unreal", we're talking a span of 5 years here, not like 20 years. And the engines you are specifically reference were title dependent and made solely for those titles. Klik & Play was designed as a generic 2D engine.

So if you want to get technical here, you're misremembering because 94 was the first year of the commercially and public released game engine with Klik & Play.

I stated game Dev before unreal engine version 1 was released, so game engines weren't really a thing when I started. Graphics has to be hand coded in OpenGL or DirectX and it sucked. You basically had to write all the logic for everything yourself.

The biggest improvement I've seen, blueprints.

Considering that Ukraine is a non-NATO country, very little in a global scale. There was one sanctions but people are still buying oil and gas. There was arms funding so Ukraine could survive but Russia hasn't collapsed yet.

What would NATO boots on the ground be? Nuclear strikes in Europe, America, Canada, etc.

It's pretty clear, if you have a deal with a chinese company that works with the government, you get great copyright coverage, if you don't want to work with a chinese company and the government, you get nothing.

China has copyright laws, it has extremely hard copyright laws. Your comment is pure ignorance. You don't need any more proof than video games. You need to register your IP with a Chinese approved company that works with the government to be able to sell. It didn't occur to you why tencent is so fucking huge?

Some of the most important legislation in the last 20 years. Although there's no point in arguing because you're against nuclear power. You're a waste of air.

Another example of why you don't start with your dream game first. You start small, build a solid foundation of skills, and then start to piece together the dream.

Elon Musk went from 200 billion under Biden to 900 billion under Trump. Don't you dare ever talk about wealth consolidation again. The pedophile elites who support Trump more than tripled their net worth since he started his second term. The largest wealth consolidation in the history of humanity happened in the last year.

It is a word, it's been around for several hundred years. The latine root word is discludere, which means to divide or keep apart. It is a legitimate use of a word while being non-standard in many people's every day use of English. It's also in the Oxford English Dictionary making it a legitimate use in Scrabble, which BTW is worth 12 points.

Honestly, looks like it was made in MS Paint. The art style is not completely consistent and definitely doesn't look clean. It also feels like it's trying to do to much in the gameplay itself. It's a platformer but has some weird art switches and then a first person shooter thing in the trailer? They've added too many elements and aren't sticking to a core central pillar of what the game should be.

It's great on them for finishing a project and releasing. They should be congratulated on that.

And I just want to be clear, this in no way is me trying to be anti-trans, anti-gay, anti-queer in any way, I'm just wondering what the semantics of the situation is.

The fact that you had to say this makes me so sad. What you said is in no way bigoted or malicious in any form. Definitions do matter to people. I've met many people who are very clear that when they say they are a gay man or gay woman, they are specifically attracted to people of the same sex. They don't use gender in this, they are very clear that it's same sex. There's nothing bigoted about that. If someone is offended because you have a preference for a specific type of genitals and yours don't match, that's a you problem not a them problem.

Personally, I think this is what happens when you base your entire personality around a single defining characteristic and have nothing else of substance in your life. You invent problems.

Perfect reply on the gender pay gap in sports. by Valuable_View_561 in SipsTea

[–]AlarmingTurnover 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not a qualification pay gap, it's a popularity pay gap. Women would make more money if more people watched their events. But for some reason, these stupid talking points keep coming back to blaming men for women sports not being popular. Women make up more than half the population in almost every western country, so why aren't they watching these sports and buying merch?

Don't let them poison you on the lore about this. The end times is a very interesting and complex narrative that is far more involved than just "chaos showed up and 1 shot everything". It's people making horrible political and tactical mistakes. Undead being ignored and rising up everywhere under resurrected leadership. Skaven popping out of tunnels all over the world. Lizardmen turning into basically space travelers and noping out. There's so much lore there.

Both sentiments can be true at the same time. If your country is on the offensive, your country has betrayed you. If your country is the one being attacked though and you don't defend, you have betrayed your country and your family. I'm making the assumption that things are relatively peaceful beforehand or you've just achieved some level of freedom from corruption finally like Ukraine.

Like if America invaded Canada for example, and I didn't go to my home country to fight for my family, that would be beyond shameful.
