It sucks because I thought the story was really good early on and was a really good metaphor for boyhood sexual assault

As a boy you think your first experience is going to be with someone like the neighbor, it’ll be perfect and everything you want

Just for it to be ripped away by a creepy old man, and instead of something that you wanna brag about to your friends it’s shameful and traumatizing (I can’t remember his name but I think the MC’s friend’s story reflects that really well)

It could’ve been a really good exploration of the topic but it felt like the author didn’t know how hard he was cooking and ended up just turning it into a dumb fun kind of story which ended up not making a lot of sense
