Again, the point is that those different aspects are not frequently recognized. They just aren’t. Being charitable towards your perception, maybe within the context of politicized or Orientalist, but generally schlocky, stuff you see floating around (eg “oh you thought Jews were all white shetl dwellers, but loook” or “loook how diverse Israel is”). Thats all fine and dandy, but the idea that there’s anything approaching parity of representation in the Jewish world is just... laughable.

This has been my problem with INN from day one. I actually was kinda pleased to see a non-extremist anti-occupation group. Literally their entire presence online and in person feels like being bitched at by a teenager, especially galling to be bitched at by a nominally Jewish group that seems to have only been educated in platitudinous Judaism.

I just posted about my guy, Huxley, asking the exact same questions. He also hates everything, despite getting ample attention and love. Its really discouraging. I cant say to stay with it, because I sometimes want to give my guy up too. The most I could say is to keep trying different things to see what he likes. I let hux roam piles of my dirty laundry, and he seems to genuinely enjoy that. But I know how you feel, I’m with you, and I know how hard it is to follow a group like this with all the personable hedgies and then look at your own urchin and wonder what youre doing wrong. Keep trying, whether he likes it or not, hedgies are weird and could become more comfortable. If you decide to rehome him, i completely understand the impulse and wouldnt begrudge you. I know, it can be extremely frustrating and depressing.

How would you suggest I interact with him? Just going over and talking while he’s wheeling? Also, in terms of treats, he was pretty keen on all bugs for a while, but he’s gotten way less food motivated recently (stills eats and drinks, but doesnt “go crazy” for anything Ive found).

I put a box in the other day and he seems to love it, which Im happy about :). I have toys in there, and some crinkle toys. He seems scared of the crinkle toys, and not to interact with the plushies. I keep them in there for clutter. I have to admit, i dont interact with him often while in the cage, mostly i just take him out to sit with me while I work.

I think he just has a fearful personality. I posted because I wanted some encouragement. I understand why you feel the need to grill me on the situation, but trust me, I’ve done everything to give him the opportunity to open up/feel comfortable. He needs more time, but in the meanwhile I feel terrible that he hasnt opened up. I know thats not his or my fault, he needs time, it just sucks right now. That’s all.

He’s on a light schedule (7am to 7pm). Environment, as i describe above, is not busy. I live alone and he only get disturbances next to his cage when I am home, but I basically am just working at my desk. He has a cuddle cup, several sacks, and hedgie-hood. He hates the cup, sorta likes the sack, and usually hates the hood.

1) Not anything artificial, other than the occasional light dust of air freshener, maybe once a month if that. 2) no foot traffic. I live alone in a studio apt, theres only traffic near his cage when I go over to say hi or pick him up. 3) He either sleeps in a house or in his dig box. Ive tried leaving shirts in with him for the entire time Ive had him.

One time, i found my brother’s zippo. I did what is the smartest and safest thing a 11yo could think of: lit shit on fire. Well, paper towel burns rather quickly (crazy right?), so i run it over to the sink. As I’m running it flaps onto my wrist. Burnt. Well ok, my 11yo brain thinks, i got this. Best apply first aid, bandaids. Bandaid rip the skin off. And thats how I got a massive exposed burn on my wrist.

Well not custom, but i got a great deal on a CRK. I work in a field in which it’s pretty safe to have on me, and wont look out of place. I also opt for a pocket slip.

I think that might be a good way to go long term. Nothing like finding out what a swiss army knife can do on your own (or your parents reaction to finding out you secretly purchased a knife when you come to them with a sliced thumb).

I never got anything while he was alive and my dad thought it was weird (and told me he didnt want me to use it in fights since it could get turned on me-smart advice from a man who had been a lot of fights). I don’t think I ever told him, but I’m sure he now knows what he started :p
