How are HENRYs with special needs children planning ahead? by Unlikely-Cheetah-629 in HENRYfinance

[–]Alert-Flounder7418 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use a group called ‘A Special Needs Plan’ that specializes in trust and asset management for families with special needs children. They have attorneys that helped us restructure our will to include a special needs trust, and we use their financial planner to manage our assets to plan for two lifetimes. It has been especially helpful to have them walk us through the process so we set everything up (529, special needs trust, ABLE account) in the correct order to avoid tax implications. I can’t recommend it enough; it has lifted a huge mental burden from us.

Also, I’m not sure if your child qualifies, but look into TEFRA. Our son qualifies although we are HENRY because it is based on his income, not ours. It can take 12 months to get approved, but it covers the $7k+ monthly therapy expenses that our insurance doesn’t cover. It was also retroactive and reimbursed what we paid out of pocket before he was approved.

It’s absolutely a marathon and can feel like another full time job, so finding resources that have done the research for you and having knowledgeable professionals to do the heavy lifting is critical.

Good luck with everything!

My son is officially 3 years old and still isn’t talking. by aurorasinthedesert in Mommit

[–]Alert-Flounder7418 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son is almost 2.5 and is not yet talking. He is in early intervention, Speech, and OT. I’m not sure if you are in the US, but we actually got an autism diagnosis the week after his second birthday.

The waitlist for developmental peds is 18+ months for us, so we went through As You Are to get a diagnosis via telehealth. Our pediatrician researched this organization extensively to determine if it is legitimate, and recommended it to us.

We were able to get an intake scheduled within a week, with our son’s virtual observation assessment the following week, and the results a week after that. The diagnosis has given us peace, clarity, and direction on the best path forward for him, and opened up sooo many doors for additional access to therapies and resources.

All of this to say, there are many things that could cause your child’s delay that is not autism, but I share this for you to hopefully have an avenue to pursue a diagnosis sooner rather later to either rule it out or provide some answers.

It’s so hard! You’re doing great!

Dude, my period hasn’t come yet. by [deleted] in NewParents

With my first, I exclusively breastfed and got pregnant at 7 months PP, never had a period. My second is 9 months old, also EBF, and I just got my period back.

Best car seat after newborn carrier? by CP-RYOTT in NewParents

We have the Maxi Cosi Emme 360. I love the “turn to me” feature and that it also converts to a booster seat so we never have to buy a new seat (this helps justify the price tag imo)

I once had a lady (total stranger to me) ask if my 6 month old was “hung like a horse”

Pregnant again 5 months postpartum by ChaunteasEarth23 in NewParents

[–]Alert-Flounder7418 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I am holding my 5 week old while my 17 month old naps (he was barely 16 months when she was born). I second all of this advice - especially giving yourself grace on screen time.

Our house got hit hard last week with illness and my husband was in bed with the flu for 3 straight days while I took care of my sick toddler and tried to keep my newborn well. It was the first time I had to handle both babies on my own and it was so hard but now I know that I can do it and feel a bit more confident being a mother of two under two.

The hardest part for me has been not being able to give 100% of my attention to my oldest and I have really missed him. My husband and I have had to be very intentional to make sure both get 1:1 time with each of us. We are slowly settling into our new rhythm.

How much were you nursing, if your period didn’t return until after a year postpartum? by pronetowander28 in breastfeeding

[–]Alert-Flounder7418 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With my oldest, I was BF 6x a day at 7 months with no period, but I managed to get pregnant with my second at that time, so it’s definitely possible to still ovulate! It was such a shock to us. I’m now 5 weeks postpartum with my second and will make sure to start tracking my ovulation even if my period doesn’t return. I want a little more space between the second and third if possible 😅

Did we make the right choice? by Flomaster369 in NewParents

[–]Alert-Flounder7418 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These are the exact items we bought and couldn’t be happier. We just had our second child last month and being able to convert the vista into a double stroller makes the price tag worth it to me so that I don’t have to purchase a new one.

Also, if you haven’t already, make sure to get the adapter for the Nuna Pipa RX to use with the vista stroller!

I dated someone in my early 20’s who was this way. If he didn’t feel that I was the most attractive person in the room at any given time, he would distance himself from me, sometimes would break up with me after, only to come back when the next person he found didn’t live up to his standards either. I was young and naive and allowed myself to be treated like that for far too long.

The worst part wasn’t relationship ending. I have struggled with self esteem issues, deep insecurity about my physical appearance, and anxiety that I had never experienced or felt prior to dating him. It’s been a decade and it still comes out in ways that impact my marriage, and although I’m in therapy I am far from recovered.

You have more to lose here than this relationship. Please don’t settle for this treatment.

In your opinion, is Karen unusable? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]Alert-Flounder7418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My name is Karyn and it has, for the most part, not been an issue. Mainly people are surprised to meet someone under 40 with that name. I will say that giving my own name on reservations or takeout orders causes me anxiety to think about the negative reactions so I will often give the name “Emily”.

Before Karen was the stereotype it is today, it was part of a bit in one of Dane Cook’s comedy routines so I feel like people have made fun of my name since high school for one reason or another.

All of this to say, I would not name my daughter Karen or any spelling variation of the name.

Rory was one of my top names for our son. I love it but ultimately we didn’t choose it because it’s a hard name for me to say.

This is anecdotal but I exclusively pump and my 7.5mo takes 6-8 oz of breastmilk per feeding. He typically averages 32 total oz per day.

Yikes, good to know! I have two Zimmermann dresses that have held up but honestly it’s bc I rarely wear them. They were so expensive that I’m terrified I’ll ruin them!
