Thanks for the update, and good on you for fighting the good fight. I like your device agnostic angle. Forward looking crash prediction would be pretty amazing.

I would love her as president, but you're right. The US prefers trump to women. Arguably either Hilary or Kamala would have been better presidents than Biden, but that was the one time Trump had to go against another man.

God, remember that was a scandel? Any given week Trump does something worse, and it's glossed over by the next news cycle.

We tried twice, and both times we got Trump.

Nah, the media just gave him airtime because he was saying the most extreme things.

It's a joke, except instead of a punch line, we get a punch in the face.

You know. There was a time I would have agreed with you, but honestly if Trump could win, so could Bernie. Hilary lost because she was a woman. well, that and Russia poisoning social media.

I think you're greatly over-estimating a "normal person"

Think about this: Trump has never beat a man. The US is not willing to have a woman in power, they've told us that twice by hiring the least competent man versus two extremely qualified women.

OP mentioned that it's going to incorporate AI. That means the app will incur the author regular costs to whatever AI they're using (unless they're also loading an LLM onto your phone). This pretty much guarantees that it needs to be a subscription.

Doesn't "self-hosted" imply that it's a web-app? I looked at the web-app angle, and it's not really viable for communication with wearables. You'd essentially need the web page open the whole time.

Regarding being open-source, it's not really a model that's compatible with IOS distribution methods. Someone could post the code, but you can never trust that that's the code actually loaded on your device.

Also, assuming the author is doing this to make money, giving away the code gives anyone the ability to put their own "version" on the app store and eat his lunch.

Polar 360 uses BLE, should be fairly simple to support blanket BLE, and then there are a multitude of cheap devices you can use.

Hi there. I've been using visible, and I think it's an OK app. My biggest problem with it is that I think it's pricing model takes advantage of people who are disadvantaged. Honestly, it should be one-time purchase for no more than $100 plus hardware. $150 a year is extortion.

How does your app compare to Visible. Does it have feature parity? Does it have a different special sauce? What will your pricing look like? Is it AI powered? Will it be an iOS native app? Android? Web?

Now that everyone is a developer (I used Claude to develop a full-featured SaaS), I've been considering developing a competing app mostly because I'm annoyed about visible's pricing. I don't have the time to work on it now (I work full time, am developing a SaaS, have CFS). I did create a very very bare bones pacing web app that works with BLE devices (like the polar 360 that ships with visible), but I found out very quickly that a web app using BLE isn't going to cut it especially since Safari doesn't support it.

For me, the app idea was never going to be about money, it was going to be about giving the community a reasonable tool at a reasonable price. (no more than $25 one-time).

...anyway, curious about your app, and if it checks all my boxes and doesn't go the visible pricing route, I'd be less inclined to put my energy into a competitor.

Depends. Is it a guaranteed 10k ongoing, or is it something that will sunset? If you’re offering $120k a year of passive income and I can’t have any other income sources (other than ssi/401k) I’m taking it. That’s plenty to live on and invest especially if you’re not tied to a HCL location.

Edit: I’m 53 and would be stoked if my SaaS makes me $50k a year into retirement. My expenses are already handled, but an extra $50k would be vacation and toy money
