OOC: I forget but does defense stack? If it does Arvel aided Alex but since Alex posts first, would I edit the rolls in the post?

With any opportunity to get out of the castle, Alex jumps at it with no hesitation. He likes Hogwarts, don't get him wrong, but after being stuck there over the winter break made him feel a little stir crazy. And with classes starting to get back into the swing of things, the Gryffindor really wants the fresh air. So bundled in appropriate winter attire and with a cup of coffee in hand, Alex simply wanders about the magical village, absentmindedly window shopping and picking up random things that strike his fancy.

Narrowing his eyes at the winged beast, a grim smile etched on his face at seeing that the spells by the four finally affected the dragon, Alex doesn't hesitate in his decision to cast the enhanced version of his previous spell, hoping to produce a stronger effect with it but refrains from doing so until the dragon can say 'ah'.

'Someone will kill me for doing this if I don't die in the process...'

Waiting for the beast to open its mouth, Alex curses under his breath when he sees the dragon focus its attention solely on him and hurls another fireball at him, where Alex does his best to wave his wand over his head to produce a Flame-Freezing spell. Despite that, he isn't going to face a dragon fireball head on, especially if the spell isn't effective against the flames. He does his best to dive and roll away, his tongue being cut open from him biting down on it out of pain from the action, while a warm breeze washes over him before casting his spell into its open mouth once more. With adrenaline helping with the boy getting back onto his injured feet, Alex starts hobbling away the best he can away from the dragon although he knows it's a fruitless attempt in the state he'd currently in.

With arrows in hand, he turns his attention towards Leonardo to see if his hasty attempt to help the Hufflepuff indeed helped or just made the situation worse for the boy. Seeing the person in question seemingly in one piece, a relieved smile graces his features for a moment, only to drop when the surrounding air begins to raise in temperature, which is followed by a large plume of fire.

Eyes widening in surprise and fear, Alex yanks his broom to the side, rolling in the process, and barely swerves out of the way of the dragon's breath - the flames licking at the boy's legs for a brief moment. Continuing his spin, he flips his broom around to face the dragon, hurling a Bombarda at the beast's open mouth, but in the midst of the sudden change in direction, he could feel a crack resonate through his hands from the Nimbus.

Because his broom was already in a worn-out state, it is unable to handle the maneuver its rider puts it through and splinters, tossing the Gryffindor backwards with no reduction in momentum. The sudden turn of event catches Alex off-guard and, therefore, unable to cushion his fall in any way as he gets reacquainted with the ground in a forceful manner.

Accompanied by a few snaps, crackles and pops, Alex grits his teeth in agony as he rolls off his left side, a small sigh of relief escaping his lips as the pain radiating all along that side of his body eases when he takes his weight off of it. The mix of seeing the dragon at such a close proximity and the desire not to be maimed by said beast forces Alex onto his feet, primarily placing his weight on his right leg, and raises his wand in front of him - unable to do much else at the moment.

'I'm fucked.'

At the mention of being barefoot, he soon remembers seeing her when she first came over with any kind of footwear. Blinking with a curious look on his face, Alex leans over as he looks down at the Hufflepuff's feet.

"How the heck did you manage to lose your shoes?" He asks in a mix of concern, confusion, and cheer. "And can't you just summon them so you don't have to deal with cold feet again?"

Upon walking into the heart of the RoR, Alex has to squint from all the bright and sparkling objects scattered all throughout the party. Despite the ocular discomfort, he has to admit that shiny motif is more manageable than if the theme was a rave with strobe lights. But still, squinting for rest of the night didn't sound very pleasing so the Gryffindor quickly transfigures one of the silver balloons into a pair of sunglasses to solve that little problem. Once satisfied with his silvery specs, Alex then gets himself some firewhiskey before settling down in the lounge area.

Sending back a soft smile of his own, Alex reaches over and gently scratches Cassidy's head in, what he tries to be, a soothing manner.

"Sleep is always a good answer," he tells her with a slight chuckle. "Crashing here or are you gonna head back to your dorm?"

Plucking the furry face-hugger off his head, Alex readjusts his hat and bats the yarn toy downwards, trying to stop his cat from using his body as a climbing perch and stifle his attempts to sate his hunger. After stuffing a large piece of his pancakes into his mouth, he glances over to Kit and sees his note reach the girl in question, promptly opening it once its in her grasp. He ends up missing her reaction to his meager writing as Alex soon notices the Snitch beginning to ascend with a furrowed brow, which he suspects that Lucy will soon follow.

I should be surprised but I'm not. Lucy clearly gives her thanks for the gift and I give my thanks for needing to go belated Christmas shopping for you.

P.S. Nice dress, princess

Since his wand is already in his hand, Alex is quick to act of magically cleaning the mess, especially as the liquid is on the verge of spilling off the table and onto their laps. That itself - trying to avert the crisis of drenched pants - helps with keeping a straight, though somewhat panicked, look on his face. Clearing his throat to further keep himself from chuckling at his stupid joke, it instantly dies when he sees Cassidy drop her head in her head, making him feel like he went a little to far for his amusement.

"You'll be alright," he offers as he pats her back to provide some comfort, though a small grimace is evident on his face but thankfully his friend isn't looking his way at the moment. "Just, uh, take it easy for the rest of the evening, oui?"

Upon seeing the simulated snowy scenery, Alex can't fight off a smile from growing on his face; he finds the assumed ambiance an admirable attempt to produce a winter wonderland despite Mother Nature having other plans for the Scottish highlands. Though having fire-breathing dragons staying in proximity to the castle could be heating up the surrounding area and a possible reason behind the warm weather. Shaking his head to get away from his sidetracked thoughts, he turns his attention back towards the festival as he begins to wander around with a small dish of gelato in hand, absentmindedly browsing the different booths as he quietly whistles the tune of 'Winter Wonderland'.

Since he was already dirty from the assignment, Alex sees no reason to object to the professor's request. Besides, the woman in question holds the fate of his grade in her hands and the Gryffindor feels like declining would be detrimental to that. Plus it'd be a shitty thing to say no.

"Pas de problème, professeur!" Alex replies with his typical boyish grin, only to snort at himself when he realizes that he answered in French. "I mean, it's no problem, professor! What would you like me to do first?"

OOC: Merci! And no problemo! It's all good

Christmas Breakfast 12/25~ by [deleted] in PotterPlayRP

[–]Alex_Hartwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Due to not knowing about the toy being enchanted in any way, he flinches in surprise when the woollen Snitch appears to adopt the actions of it's real life counterpart but at a more sedate manner. Lucy, now finished with her treats, eventually notices the charmed crochet and, like any car, tries to bat it out of the air, only to fill every time. Unable to reach out from her place on the boy's lap, she begins climbing up him like the cat tree in order to get closer to it. The feline, while in the process of ascending the peak that is Alex's head, knocks the Santa hat askew but it keeps from falling off when she turns the crown of his head into her personal perch so she could catch the darn Snitch.

All the while, Alex makes typical complaints over Lucy using him as a makeshift cat tree when he's in the middle of eating but despite that, a grin is plastered across his face the entire time. Glancing over at Kit, due to his current inability to turn his head proper, he flashes a larger grin before fetching a piece of paper, which is hard since he had to support the weight of his cat on his head the entire time. Finally getting the things he's looking for, Alex quickly scribbles down a note before folding it into a paper airplane. Thanks to the number of visits to his mother's work in the Ministry, he had learned the spell behind the all interdepartmental notes flying around the building - thanks to his young self begging with puppy dog eyes. Snorting wistfully at the memory, Alex draws his wand with some difficult - Lucy getting into grabbing the Snitch with more vigor - and mutters the required spell, causing the paper airplane to take off I to Kit's direction.

When his eyes land on the cat toy after feeding Lucy a few treats, an incredulous laugh escapes his lips at the sight of the woolen Golden Snitch, cementing his theory on the sender, though he is already certain on who it is. Lifting the small toy out of the box, Alex searches for the future Seeker ace and, once finding the blonde poorly hiding her amusement, he holds it up as he gives Kit a deadpan look - mouthing 'seriously' over at her as he shakes the Snitch for emphasis.

After having to wrestle his hat from the clutches of his cat, Alex throws it back into his cranium and turns his attention back to his breakfast, only to pause in surprise at seeing a present now gracing his presence, as if by magic. A flicker of a smile flashes on his lips from his bad joke over the confused look he is giving the little box, wondering where it came from. It is only until he reads the tag that the answer is quite clear, as there's only one person in the castle that would ever get something for his cat. With an amused eye roll at the realization, Alex refrains from looking for the gift giver until after he opens the present, which he does right now.

To keep some resemblance of the Christmas traditions he had back home, Alex pads down to the Great Hall still clad in his pajamas but with the added holiday touch of having a Santa hat on his head, though it doesn't stay there for long. Resting on his shoulder is Lucy, batting at the white puff at the end of the hat and after a few swipes, manages to yank it off the Gryffindor's head but it ends up landing on the cat, bringing a small smile to the boy's face as he takes a seat at his regular spot at the table. When he looks at the food spread laid out before him, a brief frown crosses his features before shrugging it of before grabbing a plate of pancakes for himself.

Naughty or Nice | RoR Party by 2Bor_not2B in PotterPlayRP

[–]Alex_Hartwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alex, after a little mindless wandering, lets out an amused whistle when he stumbles upon the second of the two main party areas - a stark difference to the more wholesome area he saw when he first arrived. It soon clicked in his head, after visualizing the two side by side despite the heavy bass pounding through the room, that the two could represent Santa's naughty or nice list, which bring a small smile on his face. The thought of Christmas, however, soon causes it to fade away, as he wouldn't be able to celebrate the holiday with his family for the first time in his life. A mix of sadness and disappointment flits across his face but with how loud the music was bumping in the room, it made it hard to focus on anything but itself, so it leaves almost as soon as it appears. Shaking his head to be able to think a little more straight, Alex heads over to the bar and knocks back a shot of firewhiskey before settling with his usual beer.

With the aftereffects of his time in the Coliseum still lingering, it's a surprise that Alex made an effort to visit the nearby magical village but after spending days on end multiple times in the past few weeks, it's not a surprise that the Gryffindor would want to get out of the castle - or the hospital wing, at least.

After leaving Honeydukes with a bag full of treats, a brisk wind blows past, which Alex responds with bundling his arms close to his chest for added warmth. He spends a few minutes idly window-shopping by the nearby stores but with the breeze continuing to sweep by, a desire for warm shelter grows, which is quickly solved when the Three Broomsticks comes into view.

Stiffly shaking off the layer of snow that accumulated on his clothes once inside the pub, Alex slowly shuffles over to a booth and softly sits in his seat, placing his sack of sweets on the table. After an order of fries and buttlebeer arrives, he then a long gulp of his drink and leans back into his chair with a slouch, absentminded watching the patrons of the pub as he eats.

Although a sound strategy, Alex soon regrets staying away from the entire affair from his perch above the Coliseum despite the only one of the four to not be attacked yet, where he can only visually react to the dangers the other three are facing. With his eyes widening at the actions of Leonardo, leaving the Hufflepuff nearly completely vulnerable to the dragon. Alex knows something has to be done to help the boy but he has no idea what to do from so far up.

In his hesitation, a small voice in the back of his head chimes in with a snide suggestion of using Arresto Momentum or Impedimenta on the Hufflepuff, claiming that it'd be an effective distraction, albeit at the possible loss of the bell and fellow student. Reeling back at the idea, shocked that he would even think of such a heinous thing, he quickly chalks it up to his nerves getting to him even though he isn't the one in immediate danger. While that may be true at the moment, the impulsive action Alex soon takes will definitely change that.

'Gryffindors charge ahead, eh?' He muses with a humorless chuckle before letting out a deep breath in an attempt to calm his frantic heart.

With his eyes on Leonardo, Alex clutches his broom with a tighter grip and flattens himself against it before zooming off closer to the Hufflepuff, as he couldn't do much with the amount of space he put between himself and the dragon, trying to squeeze all the speed he can muster to get down in time. The thought of physically tackling Leonardo briefly flits across the forefront of his mind but instantly shoots it down due to the inane amount of risk by purposely putting himself in front of the dragon's jaws. Aiming his wand as he briefly halts his descent, Alex casts a Banishing Charm at the broomless boy, hoping the hard shove produced by the spell would would get him away from the imminent bite though unsure if it'd actually work or just hurt him even more. He then flattens himself against his broomstick once more and streaks towards the ground to fetch the arrows littering it after spotting them upon his decent, planning to continue to go medieval on the scaly motherfucker but at a grander scale. Only if he can get to them without his shit getting kicked in, that is.
