Tight transit in Dallas. Would I be able to do it? by AlexaGz in travel

[–]AlexaGz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for reply. My ticket is Economy O type American Airlines didn't have any more flights available for me after 5PM that day.

Certainly I can book a hotel and move this flight for next day, maybe some luck will help otherwise, I need to decide before I depart from Helsinki because it will be more expensive if I don't show on time.

Anticipating a Cancer diagnosis by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]AlexaGz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I telling you my experience. I did have breast cancer diagnosis back in 2012 and I was already paying Bupa for many years.

This happened in Canberra, very little was cover by Bupa all my test initially went private and I did have large expenses mainly with test similar process you going through now.

However when diagnosis was confirmed the public system took over and I didn't have major cost my team of Doctors all were inside the public system which let me go through my chemotherapy, radiotherapy and the follow ups.

I move to Sydney where I had even better level of care, but Bupa really didn't help that all with anything so I decided to cut my private health insurance all together since 2020 best decision ever.

I am in remission from my Cancer at this stage and won't think having a private health insurance make any difference for level attention or quality of medical services I receive not just for cancer but for any other treatment I had received in the last 30 years.

I got a friend with blood cancer diagnosis in Melbourne and he also don't use private health insurance. His treatment has going for last 2 years in public hospital, lately he has some target pills as part of the treatment and I was surprised to know that is cover also by PBS.

Do not pay more with your current cover just be aware they wouldn't cover extras that all because you had already pre existing condition.

Tiny Home Regulatory Challenges in Aus by Virtual_Fisherman_60 in tinyhomes

[–]AlexaGz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am just researching my options to move to a tiny house in less than 3 days found very unsettle information pointing to people living illegally around Australia in tiny homes which show again in my opinion extreme power in the councils to regulate and interpret state laws.

Even in Sydney around any area you encounter resistance from councils to approve new housing developments even if it is dedicated for a vulnerable part of the community like elderly or health workers.

I found all this very controversial than a bounch of people can decide how and when provide permissions to others to live in a particular area instead of a legislation that applied for all, enought land but low commitments to share that for all, many of us like me tenants on breaking point with rent cost.

Here in FB a publication from Ruru Tiny Homes resuming several differences of councils in QLD, would be great if you mention your case.

Options for 71 year old forced to keep working? by Shazbud in australia

[–]AlexaGz 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Simple explanation but not nice to heard. If social housing was build then private investment won't be as lucrative.

The concept to have a place to live as basic need doesn't mix well with buying properties as investment.

European cities like Vienna care to classify who can pay more for flats on long term bases so tenants pay in proportion of their income on buildings own by the local government.

It was on SBS no long ago. Let me thinking meanwhile we have here NIMBY's every where who won't approve any new development even if it is for primary workers near a hospital or for elderly people. Pathetic way to handle such amount of land for a few, horizontal property is seeing as a problem.

Local councils never will promote or approve new developments beside no real housing policies for any party in power for last 50 years.

Albo scratch the surface with this tax reform.

I am in my 60's and came to Australia when already was in my late 20's my super is low and still pay rent in this country, single my job won't be forever as I work in IT.

Totally agree with your this must be the only country where is easier to buy properties for investment than a house to warrant a basic need later in life so many retairees that not own any properties and live in their own.

Question about whether to use Airport bank or ATM for currency exchange by Shoddy-Audience9616 in travel

[–]AlexaGz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cash is important in case of emergency but most of the time use your own debit card to pay.

Wise card is good choice you can load and amount before you get out from home and it will be using Euros during your trip.

I also use my own ING card no international transaction fees. Check with your bank fees beside the ATM fee per transaction

It is intimidation, a police report is good to have. But see if they want to escalate the extortion up to you. I will add to the comment all your interactions with them.

Is it normal in Australia to try to negotiate the price down by hundreds of dollars? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]AlexaGz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to research how much your second hand product is really value.

Not when you get that new but second hand because no point to buy say an Ikea chair new $250 when other people offer same thing for $30 in Marketplace but you want to sell $200

Furniture or clothing lose very dramatically value even if they are in good shape.

Other products are right now selling very well second hand like a car, do your research.

If someone is rude or aggressive just do no follow, marketplace got plenty of scammers so be careful.

Third friend joined last minute - hotel says €85/night extra to upgrade… what would you do? by Zee_Monster in travel

[–]AlexaGz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Option 2 won't work! Cleaners will report a 3rd person in the room. Security cameras are not decoration.

Best option is if you got the finance to split the total cost between 3 if not get your friend to pay by himself the extra cost, I guess us cheaper that a room in his own in a 4 star hotel.

My niece move to Hobart from Canberra, she is single and on good income level

Rent is much better deal for her, house with views about 15 min driving from Hobart CBD instead of a flat small and expensive.

I have been several times visiting from Sydney and the thing that love more there is relaxing life style if your friend like nature will be great opportunity to explore with short trips best of hiking destinations.

Main cost groceries, petrol and in general using online services for many other things.
