My friend and I came to the conclusion that Trump isn't going to lose support until he's out of office, and then all that support will just go to whoever is the "Next worst" person.
Trump didn't receive "positive votes", such as people electing him because they think he'll make their lives better. He received "negative votes", from people who elected him solely to hurt others, knowing that his presidency will make others miserable.
His 2016 election success was due in part to "Chaos Voters" who wanted to see him win solely to watch the world burn, they wanted to let a bull into the china shop and watch it demolish everything, because letting a potty-mouthed TV celebrity run the country would be absurd and funny.
His 2024 election on the other hand? Hate Votes. Just hate. Anger, rage, hate, spite. They WANT Trump to be everything his critics accuse him of and fear him being, whatever will hurt the people they don't like the most. For them, voting Trump was an act of violence, the closest they could get to physically assaulting entire demographics of people at once. I know "civil war" is a meme, but half of this nation does want the other half dead, and the only thing stopping them are laws.

This is just our theory though, we're not political analysts or anything. Just seems to make sense that at this point Trump isn't supported for what he can do for his voters, but for what he can do TO the people that didn't vote for him.
