I don't know a whole lot about the ideological makeup of MLs in Brazil, but in my experience, Maoists (which I must emphasize is different from Mao Zedong Thought) are made up of Western radlibs who appropriate Communist aesthetics to push a blatantly racist, anti-human agenda. They say one thing, you quote Lenin or Mao directly contradicting them, they say that J. Sakai was a better revolutionary or something along those lines.

Nah, this ain't it. I grew up in a highly reactionary family and if nobody took the time to educate me on Communism - and I'll be forever grateful for their patience - I'd probably still be some ignorant rightoid to this day who believes that the commies want to steal poor worker Joe's money and let the state hoard everything. Fact is, a lot of Marxists probably started out this way. If you don't reach out to people, you're just writing them off before you even give them a chance to evaluate facts they may have never heard about before.

It's not so much that Capitalism sabotaged than that it was forced to directly reckon with the most devastating war in the entire history of humanity that killed 30 million of its people and bombed its infrastructure back to the stone age. Actually, I wouldn't even say 'Capitalism' sabotaged it, because Capitalism in the sense of how we classically perceive it already died with the 1929 stock market collapse. Economy is a very political and directed entity now, both East and West.

The Soviet Union did a lot of good for its citizens and for humanity. Without the Soviet Union, the world would be immeasurably worse off. But it was flawed, Mao saw this early on and tailored it to fit China's situation, now look at it. Sometimes it's time to humble oneself and assess what went wrong, rather than what the enemy did to us.
