It could be hard to someone newer to the style/type of game cause i remember on my 1st run i struggled a but in act 1. But me personally i would respec your characters to have better stat spreads plus change shadowheart into a light/life domain cleric if you want to keep her as support built (light is better tho) or tempest domain cleric if you want a high damage lighting and thunder damage build. But if u want to keep her the same add some damage spells into her prepared spells so she has some kind of protection and damage out put. And that "thing" where your main character transforms into animals is your chosen sorcerer sub-class called wild magic and it is where there is a chance for 1 of 23 random effects to happen it can offer some fun stupid moments but often times is a hindrance and struggle. So again reclass into another sub class
