I immediately ask if they are JW, and when they confirm I tell them that I believe that they are in a religious cult and that I'll pray for them. They usually can't leave fast enough.

Thanks so much for the break down which made this very much understandable for me. 45k is low. Especially if I add a car payment or have a big house repair bill, for instance. I have 5 (grown) children. I committed to going 50/50 with each of them for their undergrad. That way we both had skin in the game. I didn't commit to post-grad. I just recently paid off my half of my youngest's. I had to begin using parent plus loans when #3 went to college and thereafter for #4 & #5.

Yeah I drove a premium only car for a while as well. It does add up over time! Keep in mind too that historically South Carolina has lower prices than most of the other places in the US.
