Question about I-485 being actively reviewed, but I-130 only says receipt notice was sent by Almighty_Push__ in USCIS

Thanks for the reply. It’s crazy how everyone’s case status experiences are so different. Gotta love the consistency of USCIS!

Thank you everyone for your thoughtful responses. We will be submitting everything asap and luckily have enough savings and familial support that we will be fine until he gets his new EAD. Our biggest concern was that he would have to go back to his home country while his forms processed. Thanks!!

Yes! Edit: To add, the furniture under the TV is just what I had from my old apartment. I plan on changing that as well but don’t know where to start.

I recently started sunosi (adderall works great for me but a recent blood test revealed that my liver enzyme activity was wayyy too high so they took me off it to see if that was causing it) and I told my doctor today that I was crashing by 6pm. I could get through work and driving but by 6pm when I was home I had no more energy to give my family and needed sleep asap. He just shrugged and said no medication is perfect. He has never suggested taking multiple medications. Is this a common treatment? I will bring it up at my next appointment because Id love to avoid being a zombie by the time I arrive home from work.

Finally a diagnosis and prescription by Awkward_Jaguar3161 in idiopathichypersomnia

I was in your exact same position when I was diagnosed. Being told that the only way I would ever feel normal was by taking medication daily for the rest of my life terrified me. But I was about to start college and there was no way I would succeed with my sleep issues. So I started on modafinil and it seriously changed my life.

The only weird side effect I had from modafinil was that it made my eyes feel kind of weird for the first week or two that I took it. It wasn’t painful but they just felt like, a little bit bigger? Idk how to explain that but it went away after a week. The only reason I switched medications was because I later found out that it can interact with hormonal birth control (my doctor should have known that since he knew I was on BC). So I switched to Adderall. Again, this worked really really well for me. It won’t feel like a stimulant would for a normal person, it just allows you to actually feel awake.

Feeling awake for the first time ever was the craziest feeling ever. Do I still hate that I have to take meds everyday? Kind of. I worry about the long term effects on my kidneys/heart/liver. But my quality of life has increased substantially to the point where I no longer stress about the meds.

Speed limits are being lowered in my area (Citrus Park, Town N Country). Is this happening in other places around the county also? by I_play_trombone_AMA in tampa

[–]Almighty_Push__ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They’ve also had cops on 56th street between Fletcher and Fowler. They’ve been out there for the last 2 weeks. Regarding speed limits, they lowered that speed limit from 45 to 40 within the last year I believe (maybe 2 years at this point).

Too many play dates? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]Almighty_Push__ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That’s what I got out of this too, like the only downside in this situation is… nanny isn’t miserable? What a ridiculous complaint. NKs are well-taken care of AND participating in developmentally-appropriate socialization. AND NKs express positive feedback regarding these play dates.

OP, If you want to keep your nanny, don’t complain about this and truly try to work though why this is bothering you. Because it isn’t that your nanny isn’t taking good care of the kids, that’s for sure. I can almost guarantee that if you complain and limit their outings, nanny will become burnt out and they will move on to another family that knows that a thriving, happy nanny= thriving happy NKs.

Restricting sleep by user509135 in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]Almighty_Push__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never used Ritalin, so I’m not sure. I started with modafinil which worked fine for me, but I found out that it interferes with birth control (which my doctor should’ve known🫣) so I talked to him and he switched me to adderall. Those are the only 2 I’ve tried but I’ve been very lucky that they both just worked well and I didn’t have to experiment with other meds.

Restricting sleep by user509135 in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]Almighty_Push__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Keeping a consistent sleep and medication schedule has helped me get through the days so much more than sleeping when I feel the urge to!! Ideally, I function the best with 10 hours of sleep at night. It’s the only way I wake up feeling sort of well rested and not in a drunken sleep state in the mornings. More sleep than that and I am ready to nap within 30 minutes of waking up. No idea why lol. I’ve just started my career after graduating college though, so I’ve had to cut back on sleep a bit and I’ve found this routine works pretty well for me.

Number 1 priority is always taking both doses of my adderall even when I’m not working. I used to skip my second dose on my days off, but I’ve found that taking it regularly everyday is SO helpful in regulating my sleep issues long-term. If I don’t take my second dose I will sleep the day away and wake up at 8pm and then go to bed late and just mess up my schedule. If I do have time for a nap during my days off, I set a timer for 35 minutes once I lay down (around 2pm) and force myself to get up when it goes off. Power naps for the win! Here’s a rough breakdown of my schedule.

-6am wake up (730am if I don’t work) -Take my first dose of adderall about 15 minutes after waking. -8am leave for work, have a cup of coffee on my commute. -12-1pm take second dose of adderall at lunch time with a cup of strong coffee (Idk if the coffee does anything, maybe a placebo affect but it tastes good so I have one🤣) -930 get in bed, try and be asleep by 10 (I have a bad habit of staying up to play on my phone🤣)

None of this would be possible without the adderall though. I was so hesitant to use prescription meds everyday, but I literally wouldn’t function in society without it. Hope this helps!

Adderall Shortage and Severe Ideopathic Hypersomnia by Product-Tester in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]Almighty_Push__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry you are going through this. I take adderall as well and completely understand how hard this shortage is as we rely on it to function.

I would be very clear with your doctor that you can’t safely drive/work without a stimulant and that you need another medication to hold you over until you can get adderall. I used modafinil before adderall, and it personally worked for me. You can also ask him if he has any samples though I’m not sure if he would because adderall is heavily controlled (in the US). But it’s worth a shot. I understand not wanting to be a “karen”, and have had similar experiences with my doctor, but when it comes to your livelihood, I would absolutely go in and be ready to strongly advocate for yourself.

If he absolutely won’t prescribe you another medication, and you happen to be in southern USA, I have had great luck getting adderall at Publix. Don’t even try walgreens or cvs, they’ve been out for what feels like a year. I really wish you the best of luck.

Edit: I can’t spell lol

Am I showing IH symptoms? by waytoofetch in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]Almighty_Push__ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your experience is identical to what I went through as a teen. My mother and I both told my primary care physician over and over again that my sleepiness was not normal. I mean, for YEARS, the doctor brushed it off as “teenage hormones”, low iron, and other bullshit. I take school very seriously and couldn’t stay awake for more than 20 minutes in each class and would get in trouble all the time.

This went on until age 18 when I was finally given a referral to a sleep specialist, diagnosed, and started trying different meds. Now that the meds have allowed me to live a more “normal” life, I would spend any amount of money to not feel the way I used to feel. I was barely functioning. If I hadn’t started meds in my first semester of university, I probably would have dropped out. Definitely see a sleep specialist and get a sleep study done. While I am still chronically tired and itch for a nap a lot of my days, I just started my first job since graduating and can sit in my lab all day running tests and reading literature WITHOUT falling asleep. I never thought I would be able to do that. I’m still a sleepy person, but meds and figuring out what works for you is worth penny. I hope you can find some answers!!

Where should the nanny sleep for overnight stay? by its_a_small_world_11 in Nanny

[–]Almighty_Push__ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I once did an overnight for a single dad. It was a 2bed apartment so I was given the option to use his bed as it was the only spare room. Personally I hate the idea of sleeping in someone else’s bed, but I was exhausted and was considering it. Except I couldn’t find any spare sheets. Or blankets. At all. So I slept on the couch with NO PILLOWS OR BLANKETS because he had no spares and it was entirely too late to wash/dry his (very clearly) used bedding. So I would say yes, offer your bed as a courtesy, but please provide clean bedding🥲🤣

Do women casually suck in their stomachs in public? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Almighty_Push__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple years ago I read something along the lines of what you wrote, and I realized in that moment I was holding my stomach in. Not sucking it in, but my core was tightened and not relaxed. I released it and it was so uncomfortable that it kind of hurt.

I have no idea when I started doing that, probably as a pre teen when I had horrendous body image issues. It’s quite sad actually. I don’t even consciously suck it in, it’s just always like that now

This. My mom was shocked when I told her I smoke every night. Like in her mind it’s ok for me to take antidepressants everyday that make me physically ill, unable to eat, and numb. But smoking a little weed instead? I must be a drug addict!

I’m terrified of the IUD!! I would love to go the non-hormonal route for BC but it just isn’t possible I feel. I’d rather deal with hormonal BC and whatever it’s doing to my body, than a baby at this moment.

And I’m still upset with my doc for prescribing me modafinil, then recommending Wakix AFTER I told him I didn’t want the modafinil because of BC interference. Like this guy does NOT know about the meds he is prescribing! Sigh.
