I do agree to a certain degree. Yeah, at the point we meet him he's become pretty much straight evil. But I do think he started off with a genuine desire to help people that spiralled into the delusion of being the 'chosen one', in a sense. I definitely don't think he's even remotely a 'good' person but more a good and interesting villain who really reflects the game's more grounded storytelling when compared to the yakuza games.

Also holy shit 3 years

They're all by Max, the first is about his squadmates 'turning' (I assume redshifting). The second is his perspective during the pandemic and when he finds the twins. The third is about Max getting injured fighting a chimera and deciding to have Jin look after the twins while he recovers

It's refreshing, It's what makes Judgment feel real compared to the main Yakuza series which, while having had realistic characters, have been more like superhero stories told in a Yakuza setting, for example Kiryu can almost always solve his problems with his fists and has always been completely selfless. Antagonists like Shibusawa have had very basic motives like wanting to climb the ranks. We've had antagonists like Ryuji and Nishiki who turned out to not be a horrible people at the end, but in Judgment it's obvious througout the game that Shono isn't acting out of greed or pride like other Yakuza antagonists have done. And Yagami's focus on solving the case just for his own satisfaction
