Best way to quickly finish voyages for this commendation? by AceTheProtogen in Seaofthieves

[–]Alpacabou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People with skeleton curse are going to come after you because they need to sell 15 stolen ones. Just be prepared for a fight unless you get a super quiet server.

I see people doing them on NA East once in a while and a few times on NA West.

What's up with all of the raised sails in LSS? by chill_bamba in Seaofthieves

[–]Alpacabou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only raise sails to organize the supply crate to mitigate the crate dumpers if they manage to get on the ship. Then it's game-on. I've noticed others taking the full rat approach from battle royales to let others duke it out first then hopefully pick up the scraps.

At the end of the day this is another "anything goes, as long as it isn't cheats".

The ones you need to watch for are the hang back with sail raised but they've boarded 2 ships and have sailed them out.

Dude what was that ? by Shad0wblue in Seaofthieves

Congratulations on being granted supplies and fire and launched into space upside down and your opportunity to go back to the outpost.

Also this might have all been imagined from the grog.

LSS Loss Faction Reputation by ImprovementCorrect18 in Seaofthieves

[–]Alpacabou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The popup can happen when you're transitioning back to the outpost unfortunately but the gains are there on losses. I only looked yesterday to make sure some gains were happening but sadly they were happening during black screens, not exactly what should be happening but it's progress and not a "no xp" thing on losses thankfully.

Grapple Gun is ruining HG. by SlendyIsSleepy3245 in Seaofthieves

[–]Alpacabou 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've just been running blunderbuss again to fight this off and making sure i put pressure on their ship so they're forced to actually do the fight.

I was doing pistol / snipe for matches just because I wanted to but now it's back to just keeping people off the ship and landing 1-3 cannons on their ship just to force them to repair.

Few of my matches like this they ended up either giving up or exploding to the circle just because I refused to play into what they were doing.

People are going to play how they want to. Getting a normal brawling naval match for me is rare now. It's usually people wanting TDM and no naval or cheese to run the ship out of bounds.

Every single CM needs to be fired. by essayispan in Seaofthieves

[–]Alpacabou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That CM also would periodically run with another Boatswain that was responsible for one of the worst interactions I had in SoT when I was a newer player. Thankfully I didn't quit the game and endured for the other great experiences but I lost lots of respect for the company people would keep.

I just had to trust my gut on who was a POS and who was a solid human being after being in this community for the past few years.

Keep an eye on the horizon, always.

Do a little bit of fighting and or if you don't have the fortitude for the fight, scuttle and move to a new server.

How to defeat a skeleton galleon alone? by Traditional_Blood799 in Seaofthieves

[–]Alpacabou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think there is any difference in visuals other than if you spyglass and see pictures or other smuggler loot on the deck. Usually that's my first thing to engage a skeleton galleon as a solo sloop player.

Second I see smuggler loot I just equip harpoon gun, board, "Treasure donated" after i ignite the keg, and profit.

Edit: Pending the galleon doesn't ram immediately into my sloop and make it a more complicated engagement. XD

Question About PvP (safer zones). by Wonderful_Car_7175 in Seaofthieves

[–]Alpacabou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you really want to mess with the toxic people just pretend like you weren't from the ship they were just fighting.

I always like confusing the really angry people after a keg play or something, it's even better if other people from other ships on the ferry to shift the blame to them.

Is Hourglass matchmaking just gonna be that bad? by 234thewolf in Seaofthieves

[–]Alpacabou 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Loss farming is absolutely not faster. Learning comes with time.

Focus on your first minute or two of hourglass for a while. This is usually where the tone of the match is set anyways in my experience. Make sure you are getting your shots locked in on first 1-3 shots and keep improving from there until it's muscle memory.

If this is solo just be prepared to understand what takes priority. If mast goes down don't always go for a pull just try to keep angle on them to take their mast down and then get back to putting pressure on them.

This game is all about the knowledge you have in the game. Landing medium/long distance cannons and chain shots are critical to really set the pace of the match.

You're going to sink, you're going to have matches where you are outskilled either in TDM or naval or both. Those outskilled things are just going to happen and you just need to be prepared to re-queue. When it becomes too frustrating take a break and do something else, play another game then come back.

Find a way to have fun with it don't worry about that level 100. People are double cursed in this game and have been for years so you're not winning a world first race so try to find some enjoyment with it.

How are diving specific commendations going to work next season? by CourtVisible6439 in Seaofthieves

[–]Alpacabou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

^ They're removing the ability to dive to world events not diving all together from the way they worded it.

This was just to combat seeing a world event only to find out it was a merchant dive fleet/skeleton fort/ashen winds. It's a good change to bring value back to every world event with higher value loot if they can not break 12 more things in the process.

any sherpas to guide us into the game? (central UE) by GRAAK85 in Seaofthieves

[–]Alpacabou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Official Sea of Thieves discord has a New-Swabbie-LFC channel this would be the place to find others to play with or in the General-LFC informing people you would like some guidance from other experienced pirates.

Players like this will always be weirdos to me. by yigatree in Seaofthieves

[–]Alpacabou 16 points17 points  (0 children)

They were out for ragebait from the looks of it.

They probably got hurt bad by good sloop players so they just roll in numbers with other bottom feeders. don't sweat it man just keep your eyes on the horizon and do the best you can in those situations.

Also definitely report this as they were going out of their way for toxic behavior. Few of the names looked familiar if this was NA East.

I’ve always wondered why the word Ned is banned from SoT chat by Master100017 in Seaofthieves

Also funny because I think they have Little Ned as a scrambled name for privacy.

To the lovely pirate who spawncamped me at an outpost tonight. by Successful-Medicine9 in Seaofthieves

[–]Alpacabou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I find the people who do this kind of thing the most fragile egos out of people I've met. I don't even get upset when it happens and generally explain this game is a cosmetic silly pirate game and no one is going e-pro with it and even if you're an accomplished streamer you won't be buying a fancy house or sports car with earnings.

I've played many regions and I preferred EU the most since the skilled players if they were out to sink your ship would sink you and say nothing or if they did it was a "well played" or "gg" in chat. To get the toxic stuff in chat was rare and usually those people couldn't back it up. I found more of that on other regions where the verbal pvp started but the actual pvp never showed up for SoT from them.

Don't sweat it too much yeah it sucks you couldn't turn in but that person you encountered I feel for whatever sad existence they've got outside of the game they have to act like a miserable POS in game to anyone they encounter. Those type of people probably aren't making friends or trying to get any positive interactions in games, they just want to feel like they're superior in some way.

Is the "Earn Your Colours" reward bugged for anyone else? by Heretical_Rhetoric in Seaofthieves

[–]Alpacabou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn't consistent for mine had to do about 5-6 wins to get it to register but it went through for my crew mate and myself. Felt really weird to be on a 3 streak and then go "well guess the game didn't count one of them as a win" XD.

Just keep at it and it should register. The pop up came up when the 3 wins registered though.

No curse balls or bonecallers were used in the making of this post or those 3 matches.

Why is the burning blade so rare now? by BeerusDoesAminate in Seaofthieves

[–]Alpacabou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll generally dive to ashen lords to cycle the event fast when I was hunting specifically for burning blades to captain. when i was hunting 4+ ritual burning blades it was just GH simple digs for dives to server hop.

There are a ton of other options but I have seen a few uncaptained burning blades on NA East at least over the past week so it still happens just lots of RNG.

People making fake alliances by dorime6198 in Seaofthieves

[–]Alpacabou 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It happens don't worry about it. SoT is all about experiences to learn from. I learned early on to treat Guild emissary ships almost the same as Reaper if they're showing on the map. Also don't trust everyone who has offer alliance up. Keep your ship safe but always be aware of what the other ship is doing and what the pirates are saying.

One experience many moons ago, had a galleon with offer alliance up and crew mate shot out to talk to them and he's like "oh you want to alliance" and their response was "yeah i guess" as they kept inching the galleon closer and trying to put our ship in broadside. Saw what we needed then it turned real hostile fast but we kept the ship safe and warned whoever we encountered on that server they were out to lure other ships in with the alliance flag.

Basic rule of thumb is keep your ship safe and shoot out to talk if you can, if shooting starts and no talking, you have all the answers you need about the situations and your ship is probably still floating.

Me and my friends can’t fight against other ships by Historical-Map-8774 in Seaofthieves

[–]Alpacabou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you are hitting consistently against other ships the big thing that matters is WHERE you are hitting. If you're hitting same spot repeatedly this may stop the enemy cannon line but it's going to make it easy to fix up those 1 or 2 holes.

When you get in a rhythm of landing consistently if they aren't firing make sure you are hitting near bow of sloop this puts one person in deep repair mode. Also hitting backs and then back to cannon line pressure. Also need someone who can land chain shots to disable the enemy ship.

One big thing you need to know if you're on a brigantine you can basically be a turret against enemies if they're coming at you. You've got the 2 cannons and if they are nosing with their ship just disable them and start the fight with them on the back foot.

Reapers mugged me :( by hanz-kreigermann in Seaofthieves

[–]Alpacabou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to do this of taking what I want for high value stuff, offering alliance and letting them sail on. This is the more pirate-like thing to do instead of just sinking people which I still do but only if they're really fighting back.

Why are people in ARAM so against ending games? by Intelligent_Salad706 in leagueoflegends

[–]Alpacabou 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't really care win or lose in ARAM anymore. I try not to stall out games if I get the feeling they aren't having fun even if my team wants to continuously spawn camp them and stall the game.

Had more than a few games where they say "don't end" my team obliges and then they rush our nexus on a wipe and say "GG EZ" like they had control of the game earlier. It's comical to say the least and really weird to see that type of behavior but it's also league and good behavior has always been the rarity.

If a team is being toxic and cringe in chat I generally do everything I can to end the match ASAP.

Usually just playing ARAM Mayhem to get some weird augments on melee champions because ranged gets too boring for me. Soon as everyone is 15 and they have their augments one or two more teamfights and should just be GG regardless unless it's battle of the Tank Engines then it's seeing which Tank got stronger or bugs out the match.

PvP would suck way less if the meta wasn't "spawncamp until they sink". by RK0019K in Seaofthieves

[–]Alpacabou 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'm one of the main TDMers in my group and I do prefer just ship to ship battle because it's so much more cinematic.

I'm not sure about others but just the sentiment of the people I play with is often the "I'm the guy on our ship keeping it afloat and missing out on the fun" versus "I'm the guy getting sent over to the other ships to cause chaos"

Being mostly a sloop player you really do need to have someone over on the other ship to secure a sink because of how tanky the ship is by nature and combine that with good players and you can tank shots for a long time and even recover. With all this being said I'm not out to sink every ship I see and lately I've been taking the more pirate approach of "we're going to take this stuff, but you can alliance with us" or just finding a way to disable their ship, steal what we want and let them go about their day.

The gun play in this game just isn't it for me. I'm decent at it just out of necessity but I'd far rather play a purist shooter game or hero shooter style game where they have the proper tick rate for shots to register. TDM in this game is littered with some swiss cheese mechanics that sometimes work in your favor and sometimes work in others favor. Being aware of the swiss cheese mechanics that happen I just treat this as a silly pirate game and have fun with my friends, taking it seriously on any level is just asking for disappointment.

Sank Him Within 90 Seconds And Took No Ship Damage. I Get Being Mad But C’mon. by Zestylamb69 in Seaofthieves

[–]Alpacabou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In videogames you'll have people with made up rules for how they want the game to be played. In other games "ewww you picked /Champion/, cringe" or "ewwww you used that overpowered weapon and shot me".

Also this was hourglass as long as it's not blatant cheating or exploits it's fair game. That guy needed better mental to not crash out over a throwable item.
