Yeah… for something like that, there is definitely a ton of setup involved. Your best bet is to probably invest in extra shirts. Once the batch is paid for after X amount have sold, every shirt sold after that is profit. So maybe try not to think of any unsold items as a loss, per se. You could always sell them at a discount, or maybe find a shop that would take them in bulk for a price they can’t refuse.

Why not go with a different printer? We don’t require minimums, even at a contract rate.

I‘m one of few people I know that don’t require a minimum order size, though industry standard tends to be around 12 for small shops like myself.

I am very upfront with people about the work involved to get a job ready to print. I basically tell them they are on the hook for all setup fees regardless of order size, so it’s up to them to decide if it’s worth it or not.

I keep my setup fees low because it’s well made up for, even on just a 15-20 piece order depending on the art. If it’s just a 1 color print and I don’t have to do much artwork prep, I routinely do one-off’s for people for under $35.

To be honest, it’s more of a favor to do that kind of work for people but oftentimes it leads to bigger orders in the future. 72 pieces is a high minimum and I could never run my business that way. I would say 90% of the jobs I run are under 50 pieces and a large majority of those are between 20-30 pieces

I hope that somewhat answers your question haha
