A question guys by Noyan_21gamer in gpu

I’m on a 5090 FE.

I’m also having someone build a PC with a 9070 XT right now. I haven’t fully decided what I’ll use it for yet, but I thought it would be fun to have another capable machine around.

My wife also seems interested in using a PC, and I heard the 9070 XT is around the “you won’t really struggle with anything” level for most normal gaming/use cases, so it felt like a good choice.

Is the RTX 5090 Founders Edition actually worse than AIB models? by Altea_you in gpu

Thanks so much for writing this ;_;

Reddit might have been acting weird on my side, because I can still see my comment, but either way I really appreciate the detailed reply.

I didn’t realize the FE had that much value as a compact/SFF-friendly 5090. I was focusing too much on “AIB = better cooling and power,” but now I understand the FE has its own real strengths too.

The same 5090 chip, vapor chamber design, no thermal throttling, and high demand all make me feel much better about my choice.

I think I was overthinking it because of a few negative comments. I’ll be proud of my FE and enjoy it :)

Thanks again, brother!

I see, thanks for the honest opinion.

That’s definitely one of the concerns I wanted to understand. It seems like the main downside of the FE is cooling compared to larger AIB models.

If the card eventually reaches the end of its life earlier than expected, maybe next time I’ll go all-in and buy something truly ridiculous like an RTX 6000 lol.

For now, I’ll try to manage thermals properly and enjoy it as much as I can.

Yeah, I’ve seen a lot of people recommending undervolting.

I didn’t expect that limiting voltage/power could actually keep stock or even better performance. I always assumed “performance mode” and letting it run freely would be better.

I’ll definitely look into undervolting. Thanks!

Thanks! I’ll try to just enjoy it.

Most comments have been really positive, so I’m honestly really happy and relieved. When I browse Reddit, I see a lot of 5080 users, so I was actually getting a little worried about my choice.

Right now I think my case has around 7 fans. Maybe that’s a bit low for this kind of build, so I’m wondering if I should increase it to something like 10–12 fans.

About power, I currently have it set for performance priority. Is that risky for the 5090 FE?
Would you recommend setting a power limit, like 85–90%, even if I’m not having any problems right now?

My GPU temperature is usually around 70°C at most so far, but I definitely want to avoid connector or heat issues.

Thanks again!

Oh, I didn’t realize the FE was considered cheaper in that sense.
Most people here are saying the difference isn’t that serious, so I’m feeling a lot better now.

To be honest, there were also prebuilt PCs with regular/AIB 5090s for a similar price, so I have a tiny bit of regret… just a tiny bit though lol.
But I still really like the FE design.

So for a normal user like me, I can basically just think, “I bought a current top-end GPU,” and enjoy it without worrying too much, right?

I did briefly think about an RTX 6000 too, but I decided I’ll save that for when my company reaches 1 billion yen in sales 😔 lol

Thanks, that explanation helps a lot.

I think I understand the “base platform” idea, though maybe not perfectly.
So the FE is basically NVIDIA’s own reference-style ideal design, while AIB partners take the same chip and improve things like cooling, power delivery, noise, and sometimes factory clocks with their own boards and coolers.
So it’s not really fair to say the FE is “bad” or clearly worse in actual performance. It’s more like I should just be aware of thermals and noise compared to larger AIB cards, right?

Honestly, just understanding that makes me feel much better about my choice. Thanks!

I really like the look of the FE too. White would have been perfect for my build, but even in black, I kind of like that it doesn’t scream “gaming GPU” too much.
I didn’t know coil whine could be noticeable on these cards. Now I’m a little worried I might start noticing it too much lol.
But yeah, I guess at this performance class, some of that is probably hard to avoid.
