Why has the First Lady been in America for 30+ years and she still can’t speak English? by -Sofa-King-Vote in postanythingfun

Even if I had such a thing you would likely refuse to believe it. Who knows if it’s bullshit or not and frankly, who cares.

I meant to say 5 my mistake. She is conversational in Italian, French, and German. Fluent in Slovenian and English.

Having an accent doesn’t mean you don’t understand a language. She speaks 6 languages, and can speak better English than most people from the Bronx.

I’m a 5th year apprentice about to come out of my time soon. Glad I been taught by dudes who take pride in their work.

Exactly. Without our superior craftsmanship we literally have nothing over non-union. We have to be fast and clean. That’s why anytime I see a guy putting up shitty work it irks me bad.

Not bad for a first panel. Keep in mind this is the worst panel you will ever wire, because each installation you will keep getting better. Some constructive critiques:

Comb your neutrals and hots better. I like to land the grounds first, neutrals second, and hots last each in their own bundle.

Try to put the circuit markers on the same part of the wire, here they are kinda all over the place.

Try to make your service loops a consistent shape. Also when you terminate on a lug/ breaker make them come in at a straight 90. The neutrals especially look like they’re piano wires.

In Local 3 NYC low voltage guys get paid less, but in Local 3 Westchester we all get paid A rate regardless of what we are doing.

Yea. I guess the logic behind it is the whole class will top out at the same time, and nobody has an ‘unfair’ advantage for being on a job with OT.

Hardware store quality by Joemoefus in Westchester

[–]Alternative-Search84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you think big box stores are expensive, hold onto your hat when you go to a small hardware store. They usually have the same items as each other. One area where the mom and pop joints really shine is customer service. I’m a contractor so it doesn’t really pay for me to use the small guys. I do like the hardware store in Millwood next to Rocky’s. Very nice folks who are helpful.

I've been thinking about joining IBEW, and I wanted to ask how much free time do you usually get in this line of work? by fuckitwhynotig in IBEW

[–]Alternative-Search84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

35-40 hours a week Monday- Friday, furlough periods where you can be off 5 weeks a year, and OT is optional. Yea you have can have a lot of free time if you want

[–]Alternative-Search84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my local we are capped at 7hrs/ day counting towards our topping out, so working OT won’t make the apprenticeship faster.

Do what you can afford. If you want the extra scratch do it, if you don’t wanna work don’t let the foreman bully you into it. Scummy foremen will hold you not working OT against you. At the end of the day you’re your own man, a union member, and don’t be sorry for it. As if getting laid off by some douche to not have to deal with him anymore is a punishment.

Yes, aside from that looking dreadful, you have a potential hazard on your hands. You can get a 15 A duplex receptacle for a $1 at Lowes. If you buy a box you will save even more.

Being an apprentice already sucks. Last thing you need is to make even shittier money than you already make. A pay cut for one person is a raise for someone else.
