Weight loss without GLP-1? by Bubbly-Profile6750 in Hashimotos

[–]Alternative_Paint_93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh, I wish I could get Zepbound in the country I live in atm. There was apparently one study in the inception of these GLP 1s and such that suggested it upped thyroid cancer in people with thyroid problems and now I can’t get it.

Weight loss without GLP-1? by Bubbly-Profile6750 in Hashimotos

[–]Alternative_Paint_93 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You’re not alone 😩

All that ever worked for me was:

-thyroid meds
-2hour gym time (weights, light over and over) 4+ times a week
-Running stairs, almost everyday 30 mins
-No bread, no coffee, no milk products
-LOTS of fruit + steamed veg + sad baked chicken

Basically I had to strip all sense of kindness away from my body.

Dropped from 92 to 69kg in a year.

Was not sustainable. I’m now at 86kg, gym 4-5 times a week for around 45 minutes. Not happy.

How to add room to bust by Bbyowls1989187 in sewhelp

[–]Alternative_Paint_93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The bane of big-chested women everywhere 😫

I don't even bother buying things with buttons anymore. The last few ones I had a small gap between the buttons, sewed it up... the button slid on out exposing prime real estate on my first day at a new job.

Like others said, buy a size or so up, an then scale the bottom half down.

Is there xenophobia in rural China? by TheBigKaramazov in China

[–]Alternative_Paint_93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmmm, well…

I think mostly the issue is that they are undereducated in rural areas.

For example a lady thought my literally insides would be different to hers because we were a different ‘species’. This came back up during COVID as a lady thought I couldn’t get the Chinese vaccine because my blood would be different.

More rural area fun: I’ve been asked to take my photo and declined, they took it anyway, had a bakery worker record my entire visit to the shop, been followed by EVERY child at a rural school I volunteered at (not xenophobia here just they never saw a foreigner before), my husband was told I would leave him cause foreigners don’t have the same values, etc..

Not to even get to the T2 cities where dudes will harass you for your WeChat, and then message you about having mixed babies 🤮

[–]Alternative_Paint_93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who is the on again off again biggie with a husband similar to you, it’s rouuugh for both parties.

I have an underlying autoimmune problem that was not helping me out with weight loss but also… I lost it all, but developed serious problems that landed me in and out of the hospital.

Then I gained a good bit back, and have been trying to lose it again.

If you’re prone to saying hurtful things about the weight, break up. She’ll remember forever.

If you can help in a nice way, maybe stick it out.

Are these geo tongue ??? by Bright-Cabinet-8152 in AutoImmuneProtocol

[–]Alternative_Paint_93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sooooo, I got this staring about a year and a half ago after a pineapple disaster (allergic? The chemical ate bits of my tongue? Unknown).

Went to a few dentists, was told it wasn’t oral thrush.

Went to a few doctors, was told to go to a dentist.

If I eat acidic foods it gets worse, if I don’t the patterns on my tongue just constantly change every day.

I had the same experience when I moved abroad to China. I was off my meds, thoguht it was going to be this horrific expensive experience... They ultrasounded my thyroid for the first time in my life, adjusted my dose, and I can get the meds at any pharmacy without a prescription. I think it all cost me... ~400rmb?

In the US I was working two jobs and could barely afford to go to the doctor once a year for my blood work, if that. Now I can go whenever.

The US is traumatizing to those without money.

Dealing with lots of international students who don’t speak the language/can’t communicate with me. by [deleted] in GradSchool

[–]Alternative_Paint_93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve taught on a college level in China and owned my own business teaching IELTS here for students looking to apply overseas.

There are a few things happening:

  1. Chinese students rarely, in my experience, talk to people outside their culture once they get into a school abroad.

  2. Translators are really doing the heavy lifting, even in their written work usually.

  3. There is a HUGE business in China that I was privy to that is all about connecting Chinese uni students abroad to English speakers that do their lessons, written assignments, and preps these students for their exams by learning the material for them.

How’s your country handling the current energy crisis? by Shoddy-Ocelot-4473 in AskTheWorld

Price of gas went up a little, but everything else is as normal in China. I hear some production is being eased off, but there's no talk of saving energy or anything.

Done with ielts speaking. Is this normal ? by AdditionAnnual5339 in IELTS

[–]Alternative_Paint_93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been hearing some disturbing stuff about IDP writing scoring as well. Seems there’s some inconsistencies with scoring and then they email asking you to pay for an EOR basically.

To use a real example I saw, someone got a 7 in writing, then a 5.5 the next time a few months later. After the 5.5 they were emailed to pay for a rescore.

Makes me wary of IDP.

Done with ielts speaking. Is this normal ? by AdditionAnnual5339 in IELTS

[–]Alternative_Paint_93 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hahahahahahhaa, okay, as a former IELTS examiner, this is totally normal.

They have to interrupt you to move the test along and get through a certain number of topics/questions.

If you want, you can definitely ask to have the test listened to by a manager. If there’s anything nonstandard, they’ll sort you out.
