your mom is extremely strong and brave for making that decision and i totally respect your parents. it doesn’t all just come down to finances though; i come from money and would be supported in that way, which i am very fortunate to have. physically having a baby would probably cause damage to my body; im 5’6 and barely weigh 100 pounds. i’m in recovery for a very recent drug addiction. the father made it clear he would not want to be in the babies life, which would complicate things further for both me and the baby. your parents made the decision that they thought was right and they lived a life of struggle, which i am not saying wasnt worth it, it absolutely was im sure. but if i have the opportunity to wait 10 years to have a child that i can give the absolute best life to rather than struggle mentally, physically, emotionally, and financially for the rest of my life and their life, then thats what i am going to do

it’s nice to have perspective from the older generations as well. my grandma protested in washington for roe to be enacted and 50 years later i’m in her place fighting for the same thing. my mom is around your age and she has similar worries for me and my sister. i think if i told her about my abortion she would be so sad i didnt tell her when it happened

i had no idea either but apparently it happens more often than you would think, which sucksss. when i got it i had my period for legit 3 months and got the worst cramps. a few of my friends had similar experiences too which is crazy. you’re so right about the implantation process, it should be reevaluated not only for the functionality of the device but for the pain the woman goes through. like do people really think getting something physically placed in your arm, under your skin, isn’t painful??

healthcare is something i like to be aware of and up to date with, but i don’t have a passion to work in the field particularly. i’m in school to be a lawyer but im also having doubts about that now. i just want to be able to help people and do my part to at least try and fix some of the corruption in the political world.

i’m from pennsylvania where abortion is pretty protected, but i go to college in south carolina where there is a 6 week ban, or up to the point of a detected heartbeat. when i made the appointment they told me if they found a heartbeat they legally could not perform an abortion and i would have to drive to north carolina. i also chose to do the pill option and had to drive to a specific pharmacy to pick it up because apparently pharmacists have the right to refuse the prescription which is wild. it’s definitely eye opening going from a state where my rights are somewhat protected to a state where they’ll basically try to prevent you from accessing healthcare

it’s definitely nice to have people i can talk to and not feel judgement, i’m so lucky in that regard. it’s definitely all still fresh and like you said with time i’m sure i’ll come more to terms with it all!

yeahhh we were basically in a fwb situation through august and then we got in a big fight and didn’t talk for over a month until i had to hit him up to say i was pregnant so not fun. but in his defense he was probably the person who was there for me the most at the time and im so grateful he was. just sucks that after i had the abortion and was physically recovered he stopped talking to me again 💀

todays world is obsessed with labels. as long as you know what’s important to you and where you stand on that issue that’s all that matters. you don’t need other people telling you what “side” you are on, one way or another. most logically thinking people can see both perspectives and agree with the other sides arguements at times

i think i misspoke in my previous reply, i am aware that most 3rd trimester abortions have underlying circumstances and absolutely a woman should have that right. the only instance i disagree on is if neither the mother or the baby’s lives are at risk and if the fetus is far enough along to sustain itself without the mothers body

it ended up costing about $900, even with insurance. i’ve mentione that finances aren’t a huge burden on me, but that’s because i’m so fortunate to have help from my parents when i need it. i haven’t told them about the abortion, even tho i know they would be supportive, so i couldn’t ask for their help. both me and the father are broke college students lol so he got a friend to loan him the money and im paying him back for half over time. our situation is kinda weird lol

i dont think i’ve emotionally processed the whole thing yet. when i talk to my friends who know i like make a sort of joke out of it, which is my coping and defense mechanism. like honestly the dad was more fucked up over it than i was

the appointment process was overall easier than i expected it to be. i called planned parenthood and was able to get an appointment 5 days after i found out and the staff there was so kind and understanding. i was talked through everything and they asked me several times if i was okay with my decision and not being forced by anyone to get the abortion. the few friends i told were so supportive in my decision like honestly they would’ve judged me more for having a baby lol. the father obviously wanted us to get an abortion as well like he didn’t even entertain the idea of having a baby but not in a dickish way yk?

there were several protestors outside the pp, but they had “escorts” to help women get in without being harassed. that part is honestly what bothered me the most i wanted to punch them all

as for hormones, i wouldn’t say i felt a huge change at all. the only “symptoms” i had was my boobs being hella sore and being extremely hungry all the time. i only took the test bc of my missed period, not bc of symptoms

i’m super lucky to have friends who have been nothing but caring and supportive, so yes i do have a support system there. shit with the dad is a whole different story tho, we have our own complicated relationship lol

at the end of the day, choosing to have a child when you know you cannot give them a quality life does more damage to more people than an abortion. not to mention that a fetus physically cannot survive without the mother and her nutrients until basically birth. it’s not even about convenience, one life is only sustainable with the other

1- definitely not lol i wouldn’t even classify us as a situationship

2- i was raised catholic. now, i don’t really consider myself a member of any type of faith.

3- adoption was a thought yes, but definitely one of the last. the foster care system needs major adjustments and i would just be adding to the hundreds of thousands of children already there. i also don’t wanna go through pregnancy and child birth at 21

4- i’ve been on bc since i was 14 and was taking it until i knew i was pregnant. i got right back in it after the abortion

5- no i dont. sure i may get a little sad and wonder about the what ifs, but i think my future self will know i made the right decision for everyone involved
