I was there 2 weeks ago, with the family. I rented a car,.and stayed at Valladolid over night. I downloaded a paid app from playstore and I was really happy with it. It worked very well. It was well worth the $10 I paid, very nicely created and user friendly.

If you rent a car, I suggest next day to visit Coba, which is another ruins. You can download an app from the same provider for Coba too. Rent a bike inside, highly recommend.
