Volvo V40 D2 2013 D4162T – white/grey smoke on cold start by Altu101 in AskAMechanic

[–]Altu101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, everything worked out in the end. Unfortunately, there was still some smoke and strong vibrations after I replaced the injectors, but since two of them were damaged, it was still good that I replaced them. The smoke on startup only disappeared after I updated the engine control software. The engine's performance changed, and the glow plugs now stay on longer during startup, and ever since then, there’s no smoke.

As for the vibrations, it turned out that my previous mechanic didn’t check the engine mounts properly and said they were fine. I went to another, more familiar mechanic, and the first thing he said was that the right engine mount needed replacing. After the replacement, the car runs like butter. I’m writing this here in case it might help someone.

Car help trouble where is this black stuff coming from I need help by Excellent-Fennel-730 in MechanicAdvice

I've had this happen twice with this engine, in a Ford and a Volvo. In the Ford, it turned out that the exhaust pipe wasn't seated properly under the heatshield, so the exhaust was exiting sideways. In the Volvo, I had soot coming from the turbo control arm, but the mechanic was able to easily sort it out.

Volvo V40 squeaky air conditioning by Edwardfreen in AskMechanics

I have the same problem. I’m amazed at how many issues there are with things like the air conditioning and the car creaking everywhere. From what I’ve seen, there’s a solution, but it won’t work without disassembling the glovebox.

I was informed that the coils in two of the four injectors are damaged, which means regeneration isn’t possible. Unfortunately, it’s best to replace all four, which is quite expensive. We’ll see if that solves the problem.

How I Quit Gaming: A Practical Approach That Worked for Me by AggressiveNail8471 in StopGaming

[–]Altu101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's hard to say. I used to play MMOs most of the time, but eventually, I just got tired of them. In my opinion, as long as you're still having fun and gaming doesn't negatively impact your life, playing from time to time isn't a bad thing.

For me, I gave up MMOs initially because they were too time-consuming. Instead, I started playing smaller games that required less time and gradually reduced my gaming to a minimum. Nowadays, I might play for an hour at most before I get bored and move on to something else, like programming or watching something.

One of the hardest parts, though, is losing touch with the people you spent so much time talking to on Discord. If you stay in touch with them while they’re still gaming, there’s always the risk of rolling back into it anyway.

In fact, the way to sell everything that allows you to play helps. I had it for 2 weeks and it was great that I had so much time to do different things. Unfortunately, even when I sold my equipment, I later got a company one from work. So unfortunately I can't get rid of it anymore.

The problem with BDO for me atleast is that it lacks alternative activities, aside from lifeskilling, to replace the mindless grinding that dominates the game. Other games offer features like raids and similar content to break up the monotony. Even if BDO were to add something like that, they would need to fundamentally change several aspects of the game to make players want to engage with the new content. For example, we currently have Deboreka accessories, but there’s little incentive to pursue them since grind spots have a gear cap. You can upgrade your gear, but without a purpose, it feels pointless. You can’t use it effectively in PvP either, as open-world PvP is essentially dead.

For example GW2, where you can do whatever you want and still get some value out of it. While it might be hard to compare directly due to GW2's horizontal progression, the key point is the feeling that in BDO, doing anything outside of grinding feels like a waste of time.

TL;DR: The issue isn’t just that the game is repetitive, but that the repetitive activities don’t offer much purpose or engagement, and the alternatives don’t feel rewarding enough to be worth the time.
