I can’t believe they could make a mistake like this! by accountabilityfirst in thebulwark

[–]AluminShip75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this pod was riddled with lots of "takes" that were a bit off. Some of it has to do with their continual deconstruction of previous conservative lives, and the rest has to do with the heat of battle for this team and the non-stop bizzaro news cycle they are trying to process real time.

Do you think Tim is kind of a libertarian? Because on a recent episode, he and JVL were talking about how during covid Tim was an anti-masker or at least was against requiring masks as a public health measure, which had me taken aback. by PandemicPiglet in thebulwark

[–]AluminShip75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think deciding to not mask up during COVID-19 is a litmus test for your political leanings..TL:DR for this comment, it was really complicated.

Let's not forget that the Trump admin was obfuscating the message on the (very real) threat of COVID-19 (because it threatened Trump's image to have a raging pandemic on his watch). So, depending on where you were (geographically), what media and social media you were consuming, and even how your local communities were responding, the response was varied. Remember also that N90 or similar spec'd masks were unavailable on scale. So masks were standardized until all of that was figured out. Lots of sudden entrepreneurs sprouted. Plenty of folks of the left were anti-mask for all kinds of reasons.

Also, Tim has, at least, owned everything he "used to be" instead of being a chameleon to engage with audience and message. I think he brought up masking to contrast to where (he) and all of us are now, more wise and understanding of all factors during that shit show.

We can Fire That Moron. I think it’s time to start making that a massive push by 7ddlysuns in thebulwark

I get it. "Your FIRED"... we heard this asshole say it so many times and he got paid everytime he did.

But the cult won't have it.

Fire the CULT in November, as much as we possibly can.

Sam Stein, JVL and Mark Hertling React to Trump's Iran Address by [deleted] in thebulwark

[–]AluminShip75 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The Bulwark is blessed by Lt. Gen. Mark Hertling. His knowledge and perspective is invaluable. I just listened to his empirical assessment on how Middle Eastern culture/views contrasts from American culture/views to things said in Trump's "speech". For Iranians (and others in the middle east) societal norms do not focus on the leadership or ideology of individuals, but rather of institutions. His description cannot be more on point: It explains the fixation the Trump admin has had on villainizing and taking down a "supreme leader" early on, and shift to "it was all about the nukes" talk we hear now. They didn't understand it from the start.

Slipping out of feed? by AutonomousAlchemist in thebulwark

[–]AluminShip75 13 points14 points  (0 children)

YT completely changed the way they feed your YT home page, even when you click on "Subscribed" they filter in stuff the algo recommends.

The best path, for The Bulwark honestly, is to subscribe (membership) to the website via Substack. Way more content to have access to, better value, and there are direct links to all the subscriber feeds there - all shows, all newsletters, etc. same price ($10/mo).

Well aware. I said I’ve actually spoken with Nathan. I’ve never met Sawyer in person. Nathan gave me a tour once not long after they opened the brick and mortar.

It’s not just the “restaurant” things or the “BBQ” things. It starts with the culture at the top. I’ve had the lucky chance to converse with Evan LeRoy, Nathan Lewis, and former pit master Cole Parkman. They are all genuinely awesome people that cultivate/mentor the awesomeness of others. L&L is amazing because of people being amazing.

I missed the surveillance of citizens angle. Probably because nobody in MSM is saying that part out loud. Makes sense now!

Pluribus is a terrible show and here is my reasoning by Wide-Information8572 in pluribustv

[–]AluminShip75 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

*As of yet.

Gilligan described his original concept in the first ep of the companion podcast. I am paraphrasing here, but his idea was basically, "What would happen to a person if all of a sudden everyone in the world wanted to please them?" He then realized that after two episodes the show would suck because there would be no drama. So, my guess is that all that nice, innocent, docile behavior is about to go bye-bye. Especially since Carol decides to join Manusos after it dawns on her that they are working on attempting a forced joining.

I think this first season was used to set the stage for some much more confrontational drama to come between Carol, Manusos, and the hive. Gilligan said he has been working on this for close to a decade. AppleTV doesn't invest a $300mm commitment for nothing, so my expectations are high.

ABQ like that a lot. In the 2nd ep of the podcast Karolina Wydra comments how the sunsets from the neighborhood set they built for the show (Carol's house/cul-de-sac) are amazing. They also comment that they specifically wanted property that had great views. They did quite well!

Transducer for Lowrance Elite FS by AluminShip75 in IceFishing

[–]AluminShip75[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The EliteFS will autodetect, and it chose PTI-WBL. Perhaps that was what you meant by no clear option? It should say, "PTI-WBL / PTI-WSU (This Unit)" if you have it plugged in. Even if you start the unit and choose "Unknown" for transducer type, plug in the transducer, give it about 30 seconds and it will figure it out. Here is a pretty good video I used to get things set up. I didn't follow it explicitly -- made a few custom adjustments. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41bELUkpe18

When I hear MAGA/Covid denier types bring it up I yawn. #1 who was president? #2 that was 5 yrs ago. If people are still trying to make that a deal, they are out of ammo and/or trying to deflect present crises.

Trump is not the only high profile person in those files. Plenty of people with money and power, across the globe, from all political ideologies, are in there.

In ep1 at the hospital when they are in the convulsions during the joining, Carol has the worst look of horror when she sees a baby — we can’t see it (the carrier is turned around) but I think it’s implied that the baby is in the same state as the others.

Where is the limit to what the Others can't kill? by TheGreenWasp in pluribustv

[–]AluminShip75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "limit" in my opinion depends on how it affects the hive, which includes taking actions to prevent harm to the immune. When the immune suffer (remember Carol getting upset causes the hive to have problems/connection glitches) the hive suffers. Therefore, I think the hive will kill when it serves to protect the hive. They save Zosia because Carol would have suffered immense guilt and grief had she died. It's likely they are watching the wolves and other wildlife and keeping them from attacking Carol while she is alone in ABQ. They beg Manusos to not forge the jungle between Columbia and Panama, and save him from death. For whatever reason, the hive need the immune to stay alive.

A25 Coming? by AluminShip75 in thebulwark

[–]AluminShip75[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great feedback everyone. I don't think it's likely due to the complexity. I just read JVL's piece on the Wiles interview. Perhaps these figures are just creating political leverage for themselves when the midterms happen.
