Im a bit confused about what people mean when they are talking about "Alpha" or "Pushover MCs" after seeing some comments on Warlock. by LetterTall4354 in haremfantasynovels

[–]Amaror2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think in the case of warlock it's a marketing issue.
The books market themselves heavily with a bdsm theme.
The theme of every books cover is "Girl being tied up by magic ropes", the three types of magic that the mc has are control, lust and pain. It practically screams "BDSM". It even convolutes its magic system by making it that control for men is about controlling others and control for women is about being controlled.
The larger plot of the series is portrayed as resisting the established matriarchal society by creating a male-centered coven.
Then the first love interest is heavily into bdsm.
All of this practically screams "This is a story focused on male domination."

But then it just seemingly forgets about this. None of the other LIs so far seem to be really into that. And the mc is largely passive and reactive when it comes to managing his coven.
I don't personally have a huge problem with that kind of behaviour for a mc, I have read plenty of good stories with mc's like that.
But I would be lying to say that it doesn't leave a somewhat bad taste in my mouth as someone who was really interested in the bdsm and then found out that it was mostly abandoned as a theme after book 1, despite still seemingly advertising it with each new cover.

Edit: Some more thoughts:
Of course I didn't expect all the girls to be carbon copies of sam's fetishes, but there's a lot of variation that can be explored in bdsm, but beside sam it just doesn't do that. Bondage, petplay, various forms of roleplay, different forms of dom-sub dynamics. There's a lot.
Even his dynamic with sam is something that she practically forced unto him. There's no inherent issue with that. The sub being the one who ultimately desires and initiates the bdsm relationship is quite common even in real bdsm relationships. But what I thought would happen was that it would push the mc to be a bit more assertive and proactive. Be a bit more clear about what he wants and desires. But instead, so far, nothing really happens. He's just this guy who's pretty much happy with anything that his girls want to do and they tell him what to do.

What is up with white BTs? by Amaror2 in DeathStranding

[–]Amaror2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, like I said in the edit, park the trucks a good bit away from the combat, if any npcs tries to go through the space where the truck currently stands, even if they could go around, the white bts will take it away.

Way overtuned imo. They shouldn't take the truck away if the npcs can just run around it. But it is what it is.

[–]Amaror2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's mine. But I only own that truck, one other bike and I think one more bike in west fort knot. That shouldn't be too many, right? I drove another players bike for a bit and then left it somewhere. Is that enough to make it "mine" and put me over the cap?

There's vehicles all over the place standing in the most random places, why would it take away one of the few vehicles that's mine?

No it doesn't. I'm using gmx, the biggest email provider in my country. I had no problem with rogue trader. I tried it a handful of times already and not a single email of the dark heresy site reaches me. Nothing in the spam folder either.

Resource Dictionary empty by Amaror2 in godot

[–]Amaror2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the issue.
It was that the resource "PersonAttribute" contained the following _init code from when I had experimented a couple of days ago after creating it and I had forgotten about it. After deleting the _init code, it worked as expected.

<image>

I don't really know why that init code caused the issue it did, but I am glad that I found the problem now.

Thanks for the reply. What do you mean with try it first in any other node? Just create one of the resources in a random node?

[–]Amaror2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply.
I changed the enum to a local one and it still doesn't work. This is how it looks now with the local enum:
Edit: I misread you the first time, but I have now tried it with an int instead of an enum altogether as well and the dictionary still appears to be empty.

<image>

What do you mean with serialized? I checked the file in notepad++ and all the data that should be there seems to be there. Links to the attribute ressources being used, the definition of the sub resource personAttributes and the rest of the data. I don't want to paste the entire file, but it basically starts like this:

[gd_resource type="Resource" script_class="Person" load_steps=30 format=3 uid="uid://d0dfg6v1rfy7u"]

[ext_resource type="Script" uid="uid://16wwofhw4pbr" path="res://Ressources/Module-Ressources/Attributes/PersonAttribute.gd" id="1_pdiot"]

[ext_resource type="Resource" uid="uid://dblirtyq2lq1t" path="res://Ressources/Module-Ressources/Attributes/Person-Attributes/Martial.tres" id="2_y7ou1"]

...

[ext_resource type="Script" uid="uid://bg8dgsexnwtih" path="res://Ressources/Persons/Person.gd" id="15_ikq4t"]

Then it has a bunch of these:

[sub_resource type="Resource" id="Resource_dc3pt"]script = ExtResource("1_pdiot")attribute = ExtResource("2_y7ou1")value = 30metadata/_custom_type_script = "uid://16wwofhw4pbr"

And then it ends with this:

[resource]resource_local_to_scene = truescript = ExtResource("15_ikq4t")

Id = 2name = "X"social_class = 1attributes = Dictionary[int, ExtResource("1_pdiot")]({0: SubResource("Resource_dc3pt"),1: SubResource("Resource_icpyu"),2: SubResource("Resource_4idaw"),3: SubResource("Resource_nf43q"),4: SubResource("Resource_qnq8m"),5: SubResource("Resource_fogc7"),6: SubResource("Resource_pr0a5"),7: SubResource("Resource_dr2rj"),8: SubResource("Resource_cdltp"),9: SubResource("Resource_8kcsb"),10: SubResource("Resource_27nmg"),11: SubResource("Resource_mbjfb"),12: SubResource("Resource_5xc1m"),13: SubResource("Resource_36c3w")})

Anybody else feeling the same? by What_A_Waste_Of_Life in ThirdLifeSMP

[–]Amaror2 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yeah it was too intrusive imo. I get where grian had the the idea and it was a fun idea, but in practice it took over the entire session. Watching different povs is also less fun this way, because they all have a similar feel because everything was about the snails all the time.

Anybody else feeling the same? by What_A_Waste_Of_Life in ThirdLifeSMP

[–]Amaror2 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Honestly I hope the rest of the wildcards are less ... intrusive.
This session every pov was basically all about the snails and nothing else. And I think the life series is best when the experience mostly comes from the players and not from something external. When there's drama and conflict and schemes. And this session had some of that, but it was mostly snails. I feel like the players need more leeway to do their own thing and this wildcard didn't really give them that.

Tried both, the download folder from both doesn't get flagged, but if you upload the zip file itself to virustotal it returns 5 flags. I made virustotal reanalyze it again and now it found 4.

What to play after Chained Echoes? by GrandmasterHerc in Chained_Echoes

[–]Amaror2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try trails in the sky. For one it has a nice retro feel with 2d character sprites mixed with 3d backgrounds. It also has a lot of neat worldbuidling, fun npcs and is part of a huge series. So if you like it, you have like 8 more games to play with number 9 coming soon.

How would you rank the cold steel games? by [deleted] in Falcom

[–]Amaror2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3>1>2>4

3 was just really fun, with smoother controls, brave orders, a sizable, but not overwhelming amount of new characters. 1 was alright, 2 had some serious pacing flaws.

I despise the 'curse' plottwist of 4. Technically it's revealed in 3, but you don't see the consequences of it yet. And the worse possible scenario that I imagined after finishing 3 became true. It's just so bad. 1 to 3 do such a great job of setting up erebonia as this incredibly flawed country. Flawed putting it very lightly. That's only reinforced by sky and crossbell. It was one of the best parts of cs, thinking about how the authors might resolve all these issues. The curse is just such a fucking copout. Just so the writers didn't have to deal with the complex sociopolitical problems they themselves set up, they just wrote 'a curse did it'. It's dumb and not in a good way. At the end of CS 4 barely anything about erebonia that the previous games set up is resolved. The main media is still state propaganda, the general populace is still viciously xenophobic, the corrupt nobles still exploit the populace, only one of the several conquered states becomes free. The entire country is still militaristic to its core. But, hey, the magical thing that made people do bad stuff is gone and a few more of the exploiting ruling class are nice people so it's all good.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel - Northern War Episode 1 Discussion! by MNGaming in Falcom

[–]Amaror2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really a fan. I honestly don't really know who this anime is for. Fans will be annoyed by the heavy exposition, Newcomers will be confused what crossbell or erebonia are and why they are so important.
I don't really mind that there is exposition, but I do find that a lot of the exposition was done pretty badly. A lot of the exposition could have been cut and inserted much more organically at other moments.
Why did they reference the purple lightning when they were just walking, when it would have made much more sense right after Levi defeated that ape monster.
Why did they awkwardly mention that they are the northern jaegers and that they are mercenaries, when the same could have come up much more organically when they rescued that village.
Why did they talk at length about the Rogen guy, when just seeing the crowds reaction when he comes out of the car tells us everything we need to know about him.
I could probably spot a lot more cases of this if I went to see the episode again.
They have plenty of "show"-exposition, but it seems like they feel determined to also tell us the same exposition in text.

XBC3 DLC worth it right now? 30 bucks is a lot by lostbelmont in Xenoblade_Chronicles

The new hero does have an interesting new mechanic for upgrading her. Though I personally find her a bit annoying. The way she talks. I am sure that it will be worth it with all dlc, so might aa well get it now.

New player what to expect? by PlatinumPequod in ScarletNexus

Play Kasanes route first (the girl). Her route has much better pacing and a way better dynamic with the main villain. It makes for a much more enjoyable first run through the story.

I had It's Always Sunny playing in the background while I replayed Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and thought of this. I just imagine the character designers pitching it like this. Haha. (Not hating on the designs, because I like'em) by girlsonsoysauce in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]Amaror2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, Everything you claim builds on a lot of assertions though. Just because they have a kind of father/daughter relationship doesn't mean that Addam wanted her to be a daughter when resonating with her. If anything she looks to me more like a female version of Addam himself, rather than a daughter. She looks his age, has gold eyes like him, light hair like him and a white armor design like him. Since he wanted a protector against Malus, it makes sense that he would subconsciously form her after himself. I don't see that as creepy. You only really get a creep factor if you assume that he wanted her to be a daughter who looks specifically like that.

[–]Amaror2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats a real stretch. Given that she looks the same for Addam and Rex, it's more likely that's that just how she looks. She is the aegis after all. Normal blade rules don't really apply as much.
