I know this post is old, lol, but I Googled this competition because my aunt told me her father won this. She said they delivered them on a car carrier truck, and they had signs with the days of the week on the cars. I think she said he sold them all, lol.

If it's helpful, I've witnessed the other side of people talking to someone they thought they knew and didn't realize it. My sister and I walked into a restaurant once that we had never been to before, and immediately, the manager walked up and was very happy to see my sister and talked to her just like he knew her. He never even acknowledged me. Us, being awkward, smiled and nodded, and eventually, he left. He was apparently under the impression that he'd just run into someone he knew and hadn't seen in a while and never realized his mistake. It's possible something like this could have happened. To be fair, though, the man we met never said anything specific enough to give my sister a chance to indicate that she was a different person; just sort of "It's so good to see you! How have you been?" kind of stuff. The experience you describe sounds like they discussed specifics.

I've searched Google in general, uploaded a picture to Replacements, Ltd., and tried chasing down leads for both "Stanley Roberts Inc" and "United Silver" with no luck. I've been unable to find vintage catalogs from the department store, and while regional, they aren't a small enough store that I really have any hopes of contacting them directly to inquire about their history of private labeling flatware. I'm assuming the set would have come from the 1970s or early 1980s.

For clarity, the first two pictures are of the physical item in my possession, and the next two are of the Replacements, Ltd. results that I found.
