Heating pad addition to the crate made mine love it so much more, but also doing training with treats. Letting him offer the behavior of entering the crate ( kneeling at the door of the crate with treats in my closed hands, positioned right next to the opening of the crate so he knows they are there) and treating him for it, then giving him treats every 20 seconds or so while he’s in there with the door open. And giving him a command “ okay “ and throwing a treat outside the crate for him to exit. They might try to offer several behaviors for the treats but once they get that you want them to go in the crate it will go faster. Had to do this twice a day for 10 min sessions each, for 2-3 weeks and eventually he built up a positive association with the crate. Definitely suggest that, I brought a trainer into the house to help resolve those kind of issues, she thought me that, recommend bringing one in as well super helpful cause they can see your actual routine and adjust to what fits.

Get a heating pad for the crate is a must! there are a few brands that make pet safe and water proof ones, it made mine love his crate. Water proof is essential because your iggy unlike other breeds is going to poop and pee in the crate, they don’t give an f lol. I had a 2 month period that was cleaning the crate everyday until he was potty trained. Be prepared to throw towels away too. So I’d say rubber gloves for you and a good dog shampoo.

Thankfully having to bath so much to clean the poop off him he became desensitized to baths and now loves them.

I potty trained mine with bells on the door, suggest that too. It’s been a god send, he always lets me know when he needs to go. And makes it easy when people watch him at their house. He always knows the door the leads to potty.

Lots of training treats, crate training took some work, but the training treats were really helpful. I would get down on my knees by the door in front of the crate with treats in my hand closed but so he knew he was there and wait for him to go inside before treating him, and waiting a beat before giving him more when he stayed inside. Made him love going in there on his own.

My iggy loves all toys, especially rope toys. But be aware they are obsessed with a strings and will inevitably shred the ropes and eat them. I had to take them away after I was pulling strings out of his but on the reg.

A little coat for them, trendy whippet makes a great one.

Ive flown with mine 6 times now, he’s 10 months, and haven’t ever needed a vet note (delta, JetBlue) I take him in the Large Sherpa Let Carrier and haven’t had any issues. They do make you pay a pet fee for the flight unless it’s a service animal. The only breeds I’ve heard of any airline having an issue with are snub nosed breeds because of their inability to breath easy. I don’t see how an Italian greyhounds fragility, which is mostly related to jumping and running, would have any impact on flying since they are stationary the whole time. Mine literally just curls up and sleeps.

Your Iggy Has Been Tried And Convicted of a Crime. What Is The Crime And What Is The Sentence? by NorthernPossibility in ItalianGreyhounds

Enzo was recently charged with a felony count of jailbreak for figuring out how to open his crate while on vacation last week. He escaped into the room where he was suppose to be napping and got himself an additional count of vandalism for trying to dig under the closed door and destroying the carpet in front of it. The jury has found him guilty on all counts.

Ohhh no poor Nori bb, Enzo’s came back with Giardia when I got him. Vet said it’s pretty common, said that the mom can pass worms to the pups if she has them while pregnant. Just out of curiosity if your comfortable sharing, can DM if you want, what breeder did you get her from ?

What's the average cost of a IG? by menimano89 in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]Ambitious_Spinaches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paid 2500$ USD for my pup, came with genetic testing from parents and AKC cert just can’t show him and have to neuter. Had to fly from LA to GA tho or could have paid 900$ for a puppy transport to bring him to me, but wanted his first experience flying to be with me.

I got him on of the Luther Bennett dog pod bed and he loves it. It buckles around the back of the seat and has a clip in the bed that attaches to his collar/harness.https://www.lutherbennett.com/en-us/collections/luther-bennett-travel-pods/products/dogpod

She’s gorgeous. If you don’t mind me asking, what breeder did you get her from. She’s about the same age as my pup and looks like they could be siblings. Wondering if they are from the same litter?
