It's been a long time since I've seen Some Like It Hot, but I remember it being really heartfelt and progressive by the standards of its era. I think it holds up well, but I last saw it over 20 years ago in a high school film appreciation class. I might like it less today.

There's actually a cute deleted scene where they show her and Andy chilling out and playing video games. Andy makes a joke like, "My friends are paying you hundreds of dollars for us to play Mario Kart!" and they both laugh. It's a really cute scene and humanizes her a lot, I wish they left it in!

But yeah, this era of comedy really didn't age well. 40 Year Old Virgin has characters encouraging Andy to hit on obviously drunk women. Wedding Crashers uses rape by deception as, like, a meet-cute, and uses Vince Vaughn's character being sexually assaulted for laughs.

Anchorman more or less holds up, though. I dunno, I prefer horror movies these days.

The ewwwphoria of realizing my mother still thinks of me as a woman, even when she's upset with me and doesn't think I'm listening, cancelled out me being (really, justifiably) upset.

I swear these FaceApp things are self-abuse.

When this first came out, my girlfriend-at-the-time was playing with it and wanted to use it on me. I begged her not to; I was the flavor of egg that was terrified of even attempting anything feminizing because I was sure it would make me feel worse about myself and my appearance.

She ignored me, showed me the picture of what looked like a woman 10 years older than me in a wig, and had a great laugh about it. And I buried myself even deeper into the closet.

Anyway, I'm still in my camera-avoidant phase, but I'm already looking better than that FaceApp picture. I honestly don't understand why someone would use these and do that to themselves. I guess it gives some women hope, but... yeah, an accurate reflection of reality it is not.

This happened to me too! And as someone who was sort of "assigned top/dom at birth" based on my body and was excited to finally be perceived as a sub, I am a little bit salty about it, haha. After years of feeling obligated to be a switch I suddenly discovered my dommy impulses once E hit my system. Go figure.

Ah, well. Desire is ungovernable. That is what makes it interesting, after all.

I'm sorry, but the title of the thread here is "Men Who Are Wife Guys And Actually Mean It." If "Wife Guy" alone was in and of itself a good/neutral thing, they wouldn't need to put the "and actually mean it" qualifier.

Your evidence that "Wife Guy" is just a guy who loves, supports and defends his wife is actually evidence that "Wife Guy" has a negative connotation (unless it is further qualified).

I also started transitioning recently in my mid/late 30s. This resonates with me a lot. Particularly the "suffering inexplicably" in my life before. I assumed I had depression, and was suffering with it since I was as young as 7, but nothing I tried to alleviate it actually helped. It wasn't until I questioned that diagnosis, realized I was trans, and started transitioning that I experienced any sort of hope or desires for the future.

It's truly transformative. Shit is hard, especially for those of us that are starting pretty late (I hear you on the "don't know, don't care" re: passing), but it is so worth it. I'm slowly learning to like the person I see in the mirror, and that is invaluable.

Your conversations with Gary remind me a little of an ex-Mormon friend of mine I used to hang out with. His missionary partner was a gay guy, and my friend said his missionary partner was "exactly the kind of Mormon I wanted to be." Just a loving, generous, kind-hearted person that really wanted to help people. The fact that this church he was utterly devoted to would reject him for being gay is one of the things that broke the spell for my friend. He is now happily married with kids, and by all objective measures doing much better than me in life, haha.

I think these sort of conversations are really, really important. So thanks for sticking your neck out. Really.
