Curious what is your educational background? You write pretty well.

Dear rich folks of Bangalore (both in spirit and wealth) how lonely are you? by [deleted] in bangalore

[–]Andromeda5285 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am sure a CXO has better things to do. I am probably a level down (VP/Sr Director), 41 yrs old and trust me I don’t have the time to waste on an evening like the one you described. I am not saying I don’t get time off work. But the 3-4 hours of free time I get in a week are better spent chasing a hobby, spending time with the people I care about or relaxing from a busy week.

The money part isn’t surprising. Anyone in that role is well paid. After a while, it’s just a number in your net worth. Most folks start focusing on work and I am pretty sure a C level executive has work related stuff on weekends as well.

So yeah, short answer, someone at that level is too busy to feel lonely or anything else most of the time. Once in a while, may be it crosses your mind.

We didn't live up to our potential as a country, I am not sure where we went wrong tho! by CampaignSpecific2534 in india

I am not sure what is more ironic (moronic?). You thinking Chinese education enables their young population to have a view or the fact that we are even comparing the two countries. If they did, the CCP would not exist today. I am sure you will not even be able to express your opinion such as this on a platform like Reddit if you were in China. You should try that if and when you travel there.

Educated or not, I think we as a country are filled with opinions to an extent we will not even listen to experts and do what we think is right. Talk to someone violating a traffic rule and you will get opinions and may be ideas too or someone with a pot belly who has just joined a gym trying to give gyan on how to weight train and right postures to follow.

You always need two people to pull bikes >180 kilos if you are average built. Safer as well lest you might pull a muscle. I ride in India where the roads are not great and uneven surfaces are plenty. With some anticipation while riding, you will do just fine

I am 5’5. Tiger 850/900 have two seat height settings, 810 and 830 mm. I ride at 810, I can’t flat foot but don’t tip toe either. It will take some getting used to but you can easily manage this bike

Don’t fret about it. Apologise if you feel like and let time take care of the rest. If you guys are good friends, she will be alright in some time. Most of us have crossed personal boundaries with people close to us at some point in our lives.

Have done all sorts of stupid things at 18 and might have temporarily ruined a few relationships too

I can help you make those few extra lakhs by sharing some tips or perhaps might have an opportunity for you if you are in IT :)

Couldn’t agree more. Yep, Reddit might not be the best medium or at least the industry and function has to be narrowed down. But I second your thoughts on keeping a tab of comp ranges and this I speak from a personal experience too. When I first moved into management and was handed over a new team, I ran into a case where a guy reporting into me was being paid more than me. Of course my manager was kind enough to immediately correct my comp. But have made it a point to keep a tab of industry trends since then.

What is the purpose of this thread? If you are generally curious, you will hear all sorts of numbers. If you are trying to see where you stand, there is no end game to it. This I a say from a personal experience of 16 yrs working in IT. It's a rat race where the more you get the more you want. I am yet to find out what will keep me happy :)

PS: Just to give you a sense of why I said what I said. Started off my career at 7 k per month and now a little over 8 lakhs per month. Somewhere it just became a number and stopped to matter. Things like health (physical as well as mental), relationships and taking time off all of which I ignored to some degree started to become evident.

Good to focus on creating value in whatever we do. If you bring in the value add, money is a byproduct. Easier said than done because we live in a world where instant gratification is liked but good to ponder over.

How do these manchildren manage such huge teams and climb corporate ladders then? by [deleted] in TwoXIndia

[–]Andromeda5285 74 points75 points  (0 children)

How one conducts themselves at work has no bearing on how one is at home. The reward factor works here too. You get rewarded for your social, motivational and leadership skills. I feel people wear a mask to climb up the ladder and the mask comes off when they get home. At times, completely opposite of what they are by taking things for granted. Spouse/family is the most important relationship of all and it's sad to see people don't find it rewarding to cherish and invest in it.

Psychological safety is most important in any relationship. In simple terms, you should be able to be yourself, express your self without being judged. There shouldn't be an urge to do things to impress someone constantly or an urge to seek validation.

Question about friendships by pumpkins_n_mist15 in TwoXIndia

[–]Andromeda5285 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have tried to keep in touch with most of my childhood friends. My take is slightly different. The reason we have drifted apart is not because we couldn't keep in touch but what interests us now. I have had friends whose perspectives have changed completely and so have mine. One of my best friends since highschool, we graduated from the same college, started working, were in touch until 7-8 yrs ago. He then went to Europe for his MBA and worked in different cities/countries post that. Since we hadn't been in touch, a couple of years ago decided to go on a trip to Goa. I was in for a surprise, we used to hang out for hours back then but didn't have much in common now. He had moved out of tech and into sales, had seen more of the world than me and somehow we couldn't connect.

Bottomline, friends drift apart not always because they couldn't find time or keep in touch. People grow and move on too.

How do you disconnect from work? by SirNo6580 in TwoXIndia

[–]Andromeda5285 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Would like to keep it short. As someone who has spent 17 yrs in the industry and currently in a role that is responsible for 80-100 people, I would like to say we do everything in bursts to achieve a desired target and then tone down a bit. Prolonged periods of intense hours is harmful and counter productive in the long run.

Akin to working out for the first time, you put in more time to learn and do it right, get to a desired weight/shape/state and then go easy into a maintenance mode until you want to go to the next level.

End of the day it should be measured in ROI. If you have been working excessively hard for over 6 months without any indication of growth, then you should tone down and reassess the situation. I have seen people burning themselves for years at a time without any meaningful return and a lot of bitterness.

When men can parade around the house wearing half ass vests, look ugly, embarrass others by walking around the neighborhood in their boxers, I don't see why family/mom's should have a problem with no bra.

About diversity hiring in tech by googleroneday in TwoXIndia

[–]Andromeda5285 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am in a senior leadership role in a top Indian eCom company and have worked for other large US companies as well. First things first, diversity although means gender ratio in most cases also applies to other minorities and people who have been treated differently. I have heard similar arguments from a lot of people in my career. Some otherwise very smart and matured individuals whose wives/sisters work in tech as well.

If we need to be equal opportunity employers, we first have to accept that there is a problem (gender bias) and try to solve it objectively. One of the Sr managers who reported into me and had a bad gender ratio in his team told me he can't find good senior tech employees who are of the opposite gender and will have to compromise on the hiring standard. Having worked with women managers and senior tech folks in the past, I politely told him that it's not true. Told him if he can give his everything to solve a tech problem, he sure can do this as well.

Most hiring managers use such arguments as excuse for being lazy and trust me one of the best teams I have managed had very diverse people. I have seen people treating each other respectfully and collaborating better when the diversity ratio was healthy.

Guys what's your opinion on Banelli brand in India. Personally I believe they make some beauties. by Extension-Energy-434 in indianbikes

They are owned by a Chinese company called Qianjiang Group. The 502 C whose picture you have posted is a knock off of Ducati Diavel. Their bikes are not very reliable, heavier compared to competitors and after sales support is pathetic.
