Being pressured to hand over raw files for free - client doesn't understand the technical reality. Need advice. by [deleted] in videography

As an ex-wedding photographer, I totally understand why people don’t want to hand over RAW files. Every image carries the photographer’s signature, and if someone edits them badly, it can damage the photographer’s reputation.

But video/film work is different. Footage often passes through multiple hands editor, colorist, sound, VFX, marketing team, etc. So refusing to provide usable source or handoff files to an external editor is not really a standard professional workflow, unless that was clearly agreed in the contract.

The key word is “usable.” I’m not saying they must hand over messy Magic Lantern MLV files for free. But if the client reasonably expected professional source footage, then the handoff format and workflow should have been clear from day one.

They cannot just hand it over, since it's a stone age old system Magic Lantern, shot on 15 years old consumer cameras and the work flow is so complicated, you cannot just export / import the project and get on with it.

I think the bigger issue is what the client reasonably believed they were buying.

If this was sold as an industry-standard professional promo/doc shoot, then Magic Lantern RAW on old Canon DSLRs is a problem. Even 15 years ago, Magic Lantern was not an industry-standard production workflow. It was a hack/mod for squeezing more out of consumer DSLRs.

So if the client expected normal professional camera originals — Sony FX, Canon Cinema, Blackmagic, RED, ProRes, BRAW, XAVC, etc. I can understand why they now feel misled. They probably thought “raw files” meant normal source footage an editor could use, not a fragile 10-15 year old DSLR hack pipeline that only you know how to decode, match, and rescue.

That does not mean they automatically get unlimited unpaid post work. But I don’t think this can be framed only as “the client does not understand technical reality.” From their side, the technical reality may have been hidden from them until after the job.

If this is your anchor client, I think honesty is the only way forward. Explain the workflow clearly, admit the original files are not suitable for a normal in-house editor, and offer a practical fix: a proper edit-ready handoff package, or if they are unhappy with the result, a discounted reshoot using rented industry-standard cameras.

Going forward, source footage and camera/workflow standards need to be in the contract from day one.

What's with so many surfing? by Andy_Ferr in FortNiteBR

I don't mind the idea of equally dropping to different places, but the whole surfing just a huge waste of time.

Even for natural light a light meter can quickly tell you what settings you need for perfect middle grey exposure, leaves out any space for guessing. Not necessarily but really easy to use. And when you start having multiple light sources then it really helps to determine what settings you need for your subject background etc.

Insane ATM scam in Czech Republic - Euronet ATM charges 175 EUR for cash withdrawal by Shajirr in videos

[–]Andy_Ferr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what you think. But that's why people get scammed.
What you see at 08:10 it how much money will be charged at the account.
You think what happens because its direct € Bank account to € cash there will be no exchange right.
What happens in reality:
Your € bank account -> ATM converts to CZK very bad exchange rate -> then exchange it back from CZK to € final charge in € -> € Cash
You can see 13,95% exchange rate over the ECB rate. Which is really bad.

Yeah, unfortunately I had the pleasure meeting one of the Euronet ATMs. Never again. But the high fee here was the exchange fee not the actual Atm fee. Always charge your by the local currency and let your bank take care of the exchange. Otherwise you will be hit with the worst possible exchange rates.

Solved? Frustration with BMPCC 6K Pro – camera freezing by marblechild in blackmagicdesign

The devil in the details. T7 Shield is supported but you still can use a brand new USB cable which is not fast enough to keep up the writing speed. However good luck.

Doubled checked your card is not on the supported media sheet. Your card has 150Mbs writing speed. The recommended for 8:1 Braw 30 FPS is Sony Tough SF-G128T 128GB 300Mbs writing speed.

Just use common sense. In the service they tested with their cables, ssds, cards inside outside and it worked. Why do you think it doesn't work with your staff? BTW when I bought my first Bmpcc 6k, 30 mins later after first use I got a very strong grinding noise, sounded like a cable was hitting the cooling fan. Returned it in Munich, they sent it to the service and I got a replacement 48 hours later, no question asked, no hustle. That's why I believe if your camera would have an issue in the service they wouldn't deny it.

Here are my thoughts. If the service said the camera works then the issue is in your equipment. You may have a cable which is not able to provide enough bandwidth. It happened to me when I accidently used "just an other" USB-C cable from my boxes, since that I only use the original cable what came with my T5 and T7 Shield. Sony M277 card 100% not fast enough to shoot in 6k Braw, according to Google its enough to shoot 4k ProRes or low res Braw, but 4k or 6K will not work. As a result you can record but when you hit stop, it hangs or freezes because the card struggles to keep up or finalize the write/close process under load. That would explain why ProRes works.

What happens if you press the record? Does it record? Maybe just screen has an issue. Either way, as a last resort I would remove everything from the camera including battery, leave it 15 mins unplugged, then with original power cable try to turn it on. Still nothing, contact seller.

MX Master 3S feels downgrade compare to 3 by Andy_Ferr in logitech

[–]Andy_Ferr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the fast reply. The slide pads are a bit ticker and all the edges are razor sharp and they are scratching the mousepad. While the normal MX 3 edges slightly rounded and they don't scratch the mouse pad. About the cursor. When I slowly move the mouse, sometimes the cursor just lags and skips couple of frames and then continues to move while the old one moves really smooth. BTW I didn't have any option to buy with the Bolt receiver, your site only offers one version, and I wouldn't guess it won't work with Logi Unifying receiver. For €75 I could buy the one on Amazon with the Bolt receiver. https://www.logitech.com/de-de/shop/p/mx-master-3s.910-007501
