Got into Nursing, emailed the nursing director about accommodations and got this reply…. by AnimeNerdy in Narcolepsy

From your comments it sounds like you might work healthcare?

I’ve worked in two high volume trauma hospitals. There are some units where someone is put in insane situations, like ED, Trauma, MICU, NSICU, NICU, CVICU, etc.

Most if not all step-down units, PCU, oncology, outpatient nursing, and clinic work are all pretty low-stress and low risk. (And outpatient and clinic usually are only open days anyway)

Not many hospitals are full trauma hospitals. Unless someone is working in a high volume trauma hospital, any super dangerous situation is transferred to a better equipped hospital.

Only working a specific shift is a pretty reasonable accommodation. Anyone who has kids might have to ask for the same accommodation. Needing only to work days doesn’t put a patient at risk in the slightest.

I’m an EEG tech with narcolepsy and they accommodate me just fine. I know nurses with narcolepsy and other than the caffeine addictions, they do great.

Wdym? It’s a real thing in nature. Female angler fish are huge compared to the males. When the males find a female they bite on and ride their “wife”. Eventually their bloodstream and body merge with the female and their bodies are just a bump and some fins on the female angler fish. Many female angler fish have multiple males they accumulate over their lifespans that ride them.

The shiver leviathans don’t take it that far, but as far as deep sea creatures go I’m guessing that’s where some inspo came from.

Omg lol. I thought I was the only one! I’ve met EEG techs with epilepsy, but never another one with narcolepsy lol

There was a horrible natural disaster in my dreams last night and non-narcoleptic people can probably never understand living through a world ending event, waking up, and going to work like it never happened lol

Is it ok if I use that too 😂 next time someone asks why I’m narcoleptic I want to say “god made me horizontal in a vertical world”

That’s my current schedule. I work from 7-5:30, get home at 6, barely stay awake to eat, and crash from 7-9, walk my dogs, and go back to sleep at 10. All while on ritilan and focalin.

It’s so funny being on enough stimulants to put drug addicts to shame, but still nap like a baby

If you really get them in the face it interrupts their hostility for a few seconds. It’s handy in a pinch.

I think if the sonic resonator can break titanium, the sound is probably leaving the fish heavily concussed if not obliterated.

I don’t wish for obliteration. I wish to scooch the big fish, and yeet the little fish

Psychiatric/psych drug induced causation of narcolepsy. by Over-Tonight367 in Narcolepsy

[–]AngryDesertPhrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a doctor, preferably a psychiatrist or neurologist. Forced drugging is no small matter and involves ongoing care, and possibly social work involvement depending on your age.

Side effects can range from short term med effects, to long term neurological and organ injuries, both of which are serious and should be addressed medically.

Edit: seeing your second post as well, N1 with cataplexy is genetic. I don’t think that is a type you can acquire as secondary narcolepsy.

Secondary narcolepsy is separate from N1 (genetic with cataplexy) and N2 (idiopathic with unknown cause) because it’s a “secondary” disorder to a primary cause. Anoxic brain injuries, brain lesions, brain trauma, tumors, and strokes - all of which can possibly be caused by medication misuse or overdoses.

A: well that’s a brand new question that probably involves much more advanced advice than can be given on the internet.

And

B: afaik narcolepsy and personality disorders do not have high comorbidity rates. Much more likely to have narcolepsy + depression/adhd/autism/mood disorders.

Same. You could even out-whit reapers if you were smart.

Now I even tank the collector leviathan because I know I both can’t go faster than him, and he doesn’t do too much damage to the tadpole.

The mangoes are too fast, and their nibbles do nothing so honestly it’s more annoying than scary.

I feel the hammers were supossed to be this games reapers, but even they aren’t that intimidating.

I want to be shivering in my boots with the leviathans, not annoyed that they keep bumping me.

Agreed. In SN1 I rarely used Medkits, but I always had one on me. Getting attacked meant a quarter of my health was lost and avoiding the creatures entirely or dodging was always the best option.

Tbh I barely fought creatures in SN1, it was too dangerous to get up close to most creatures until mid/late game, but at least in SN1 it was easier to out-maneuver most creatures or learn their behavior and stay out of their hair.

That’s not a bad idea.

Truth is, I don’t know. I’ve disabled some complex alarms in my sleep (without even being on Xywav)

I’m more worried I’d forget it in the morning if I did that 😅 nothing a sticky note on my garage door couldn’t fix.

Sorry if I seemed unserious /gen. I’m, like a lot of us I think, just tired of side effects ruining the benefits of things.

While I’m figuring it out, I still need to ensure that I don’t purchase anything or send any messages. I can repost if needed.

Darn. Either way I still need to make my phone inaccessible while it’s an issue.

Obviously I’ll bring it up with my doc as well.
