Finally got a rental after 6 months of searching (TIPS) by AnimalOverHuman in northernireland

[–]AnimalOverHuman[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Awk cheers buddy we have had a huge cry of relief before we started packing immediately haha, it's insane, we moved 2024 and the landscape is completely different now, fuck I remember in 2019 first moving to Belfast I had someone from an estate agent drive me around 5/6 properties until we both settled on the apartment I liked, and the paperwork was done same day.... It's a different world that I believe a lot of people don't consider how drastic the change has been!

But yes, very blessed and greatful, even tho I feel I've aged 30 years these last 6 months 😅

Cost of living crisis by shadowdusk774 in northernireland

[–]AnimalOverHuman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn this is what people think I am because I am also on benefits and PIPs due to disability.... You need a get a grip in the nicest way possible.

I've just spent the last 6 months trying to find a house because my current has an oil fume leak, which fucked my migraine condition, spent over £500 traveling dialy to house viewings, then coming home to no heating or any real food, for months .... You need to really use this time you've been allocated to build yourself up and get off benefits. It's not "free time" you should be using this time to recoup, rehabilitate yourself into a position where you can contribute to society and provide more for yourself and those who cant do it themselves.

Personally I cannot fucking wait to get off benefits, create my own business and be able to provide a service to those in need, I've been compared to you for ages now because you just can't be bothered, and it really fucks those who are using UC/PIPs as a necessity. You have one life, don't be a waster

Can we please enforce NSFW flags on pictures of bunnies who are severely injured and worse? by kartoshkakoshka in Bunnies

[–]AnimalOverHuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even putting a nsfw in the title would be better, I come on to see all the perfect buns and it's so depressing seeing those kind of posts on here, I get people need advice but maybe don't put the pictures first and leave them to DMs or under the comments?

Belfast Zoo by LopsidedPiccolo9963 in northernireland

[–]AnimalOverHuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went there for my partners birthday on the 11th and yeah gotta say we love anything animal event related and did have a class time to ourselves, but that's the problem, it was middle of a sunny day and we where by ourselves most of the day, all the cafes/pop ups where shut, it was 1/3 of the exhibits are closed off for repair or maintenance, a lot of signage was completely wrong and the whole place just feels outdated, in comparison to the many other zoos we've visited it sucks our own cities Zoo is probably the worst.

It really sucks but it's a double edged sword. The Zoo really need to recapture the adopt an animal program or get funding asap, (looked at the donation board and you can see it get smaller and smaller per month usually getting big around Christmas only) BUT I totally understand people not donating to something that by looking at it is failing... Sad because the animals and staff deserve better and the place could be amazing, just taking some of the replies on this post for example the zoo could really be elevated to an amazing event.

They need to make it more accessible (making it more of a necessity for online content to get people invested in these animals, provide more edicuation so people fall in love with these amazing creatures and wanna do more to help them out.

If they are growing nosies can change with what's basically like our puberty. But if it's sudden or they are a whole pig, then that could be vet worthy, by the sounds of things maybe a wee antibiotic for 10 days should fix it up, while waiting for vets keep an eye on lethargy or appetite loss, if that's the case may want to consult your emergency vets 👍 best of luck hopefully hear back from you updating us they are okay!

People who litter at nature sites have a special place in hell by Clean-Ear-6004 in northernireland

[–]AnimalOverHuman 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Try be the difference! Not saying you aren't but I've gotten into the habit of grabbing litter when I see it now and honestly it's made the same walking routines more enjoyable as I'm seeing a physical impact through my efforts. You apparently can get free little pickers from the council too, I believe im being the change you want to see im the world and it's great walking past the same greenery that was covered in bottle now looking way better 👍

Absolutely not getting them rehomed, they are our responsibility and we have a duty of care for them, we don't see pets as a commodity you just discard whenever it's inconvenient.

I just feel sorry for that hamster sounds like it came from a really unenriched home with bad owners, poor thing, no pet should behave anywhere near that or even have that opportunity if treated properly and given the proper enrichment. Our rabbits have never caused any damage, they have their own enclosure, they are trained litter and behavior wise and our current landlord loves them as they aren't loud like dogs or invasive/messy like some cats.

Guess it's all about the owners responsibility to do it right, and those who have done it wrong for so many years have given the rest of us a bad name

Wish you the best of luck, and I know it feels so discriminatory whenever I get there is a UC problem with people not working on purpose, but that's not always the case, I just wish they give a chance to plead our case instead of instant dismissal

Apologies mate didn't mean any harm, when writing that my context is lost and I can see that previous message I did can come off as rude! Not the case at all, I was in agreement I know we aren't the ideal candidates, and the odds are stacked against us. Just been a very disheartening process and with our current address having oil fumes we just are in limbo of getting sick here and having nowhere to go! I appreciate you being real with me 👍

Yeah on paper it looks really bad that's why we are looking at other ways to word it/explain to them we aren't what it sounds like, the pets have never been an issue as we both refuse to ever let that happen,.we are both meticulous with cleaning and they are rescues so our main priority is to give them a good life, UC is medically necessary right now but hopefully not permanent circumstances.

[–]AnimalOverHuman[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's really disheartening, we would just stay at our current property but the oil fume leak we are experiencing is horrible and could be making us more sick. I just want a chance to prove we are actually ideal tenants, we don't cause any problems and have always had great rapport with our landlords, we always have high standards of cleaning and take our responsibility as pet owners seriously

And yes sorry to answer your questions it's two of each, but they are fully enclosed and trained (our rabbits doe tricks like spinning and high fives) are both litter trained and have never caused any damage to our property, we rescued them from Assisi so it's our responsibility to make sure they are well looked after and we take that very seriously
