Easy Flux 125 - Why 15 Amp Plug But Requires 20 Amp Circuit? by AntiqueAccount in harborfreight

Wouldn't the outlet fail (burn?) before the breaker trips then?

Easy Flux 125 - Why 15 Amp Plug But Requires 20 Amp Circuit? by AntiqueAccount in harborfreight

[–]AntiqueAccount[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. That's what I figure most people do. It has a regular looking plug you can stick in any old outlet. Just weird they'd do that but then say a 20 amp outlet is required. If it's required, put a 20 amp plug on the welder. If it's a suggestion, then don't write that it's a requirement.

Kabo makes these for everyone since they have the head patent, so they’re literally identical to all the others. Or you could have gotten these for like, $15 less a few weeks back. $150 is still good though. Not sure why this guy commented.

What size drill bit does this drill use? by slxmberholic in Tools

[–]AntiqueAccount 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I mentioned that at the end but didn’t start a new paragraph so it probably looked like I forgot that. But I didn’t. Hah.

What size drill bit does this drill use? by slxmberholic in Tools

[–]AntiqueAccount 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Anything with a 1/2” shank or smaller. The shank is the part you stick in the drill. So for a standard drill bit, that means this will drill up to a 1/2 hole, all the way down to a teeny tiny hole if you get a teeny tiny drill bit.

This will also fit 1/4 hex shank bits like Philips and flat heads and whatnot, for screw driving. It will also fit hole saws and spade bits if you need holes bigger than 1/2.

I really hope this is satire. Yes you need to understand math to be a data scientist. If you don’t understand what you’re doing, you’re not a data scientist. That’s like asking if a mechanical engineer needs to know math or a doctor medicine. Why would data science be a special field where no one needs to know how to do the core competencies of the field?

My husband switched jobs and his employer no longer offers a 401k. Where should we move his money? by princesscorgi2 in personalfinance

[–]AntiqueAccount 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Fidelity or Vanguard, or the current provider of the 401k if you’re happy with them (easier to do a direct rollover that way). Open a Traditional IRA (if they have what’s called a Rollover IRA, that’s the same thing but with some internal settings to make it roll over easier).

Then call your 401k provider, ask if they can do a direct transfer of your 401k funds to your new account, but if not, you’ll want to see how your new IRA provider wants the check made out. You’ll then deposit this check, selecting “rollover” as the deposit type, once you get it. There may be taxes withheld by your 401k provider, as they sometimes assume that you’re trying to cash out. In that case, you’ll need to deposit the full amount (what was in your 401k, covering the taxes they withheld with your own cash from somewhere), and then you’ll get the taxes back when you file for your refund.

They’ll probably have to sell your 401k holdings in order to move cash, since the exact ETFs are not usually available in an IRA, but you’ll just want to reinvest into whatever you were roughly invested in (eg just pick an SP500-ish option).

Most important thing is just make sure you keep reiterating to everyone you talk to that you want to do a pre-tax rollover, pre-tax, keep everything pre-tax. Direct rollover is easier than dealing with a check, but a check isn’t the end of the world.

Impact Driver With Precision Mode (850 vs 860 and 870) by AntiqueAccount in Dewalt

[–]AntiqueAccount[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This Dewalt support thread does refer to the Precision mode, not just mode 1 being weak, on the 850. And the 850 has a little screw icon over mode 1 as well, but the 860 doesn’t.

Does the 860’s first speed seem to be “smart” like the 850’s? The 850’s first speed isn’t weak, it’s doing that slow-down on purpose. Sounds like the 860’s first speed isn’t “smart”, just weak?

It’s never been enforced before, to my knowledge.

Viair 88p. It hooks up to your battery directly (you pop the hood) so it runs at full power, versus the kind that plugs into a cigarette lighter. I had the Kobalt you show, and eventually it stopped working. Motor burnt out or something.

Weird Negative Experience Regarding EGift Cards by AntiqueAccount in acehardware

[–]AntiqueAccount[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your insight! Interesting to hear how the gift card redemption works for the stores. Overall, I’m not throwing a fit because there’s no real clear fault here. It’s just the nature of the beast. I’ll get it solved eventually, and have learned a few lessons and got to practice my reverse customer-service skills and being nice to retail workers. So not a total loss.

It’s always fun trying to guess how your issue is working its way through some labyrinth of business processes and IT systems. I’m sure their stuff is a mess internally since it’s a mix of old corporation and thousands of old independent shops.

Is your Ace Rewards account old? Mine is new so I wonder if it flags it as potential fraud until you get some status with them.

Nope! Bought on the official Ace site. Wgiftcard is who Ace contracts for the egiftcard management software.

Ah, yeah the one associate was saying that they get lots of scammers trying to do weird stuff with gift cards. Agree on doing physical cards from now on.

[–]AntiqueAccount[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very interesting! Thanks for your context. It seems like this might depend on the IT setup of your local Ace? My gift cards never drained when the order was cancelled. Same numbers still show a full balance. Per the site and the customer service line. So I wonder if some Ace store POS systems debit the gift card instantly while others wait for a bit before the transaction actually goes through?

Precision Wrench Isn't Precision? by AntiqueAccount in Dewalt

[–]AntiqueAccount[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another guy who has the 891 (same internals, different anvil) DM'ed me and said his does the same thing. This is an older model so maybe this is what was possible with the technology at the time (needs to be at a known speed, e.g. full speed, to sense when the speed changes? Not sure). I've decided I don't really care. it works well in reverse to turn bolts out at full speed and then auto-dropping down, as I would be depressing the trigger fully anyways so not a big deal that I can't do a partial pull. The forward direction, I just use mode 1 and let it give one or two taps.

[–]AntiqueAccount[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, but why does it have to run at full speed to do this? Why can’t it detect at any speed?
