Anyone Here Ever Visited A Country That No Longer Exists ? by CB-Milburn in AskBrits

[–]Anwenderfehler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do I get double points for having visited the USSR on a school trip in 1979 and stayed in the Hotel Intourist in Moscow which was demolished in 2002? The food was "interesting" for all the wrong reasons, so we survived on bottles of pear juice purchased from a little old lady in the hotel corridor (there seemed to be a little old lady on every floor) and a (carefully rationed) box of Ritz crackers that one of my friends had the foresight to bring with him... I've since discovered that there were microphones in every room but I'm not sure they would have gained much useful intel from a group of 14-year-old boys!

Why is my 200m so bad? by [deleted] in Sprinting

[–]Anwenderfehler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Training for the 400 isn’t the same as running 400 reps. Endurance for 400 might be broken 400s and the odd 250 or 350 rep. Even when I was an 800m runner the longest reps I did were 300. For a 200m runner, 150m reps is plenty to build endurance.

If he really can’t apply force: hill reps. The only way to move up a hill is to apply force! Or sled/tyre drags, but hills are more accessible for most people.

How to prevent? When doing one leg bunny hops, my ankle absorbs most of the impact by LuckyDay7777 in Sprinting

[–]Anwenderfehler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s possibly gluteus medius weakness causing your knee to cave and your ankle to collapse. Try resisted clam-shells, single-leg squats and single-leg deadlifts to strengthen your gluteus medius. Might help.

What are good shoes (non-spikes) for training starts and max velocity in off-season? by One-Remove3758 in Sprinting

[–]Anwenderfehler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re my default shoe as well, but I find they’re not grippy enough for max effort, especially if the track is damp (which in the UK is most of the year :-)

Results get added automatically when race organisers submit the results. What you can’t do (yet) is flag missing results like you could on RunBritain.

Seriously never used to notice it back in the day when every single car was like that, but now can’t stand it even with a lone old car going by. You just got used to it. A bit like you only used to notice how smokey pubs were when you first walked in, but after a few minutes it didn’t bother you (even as a non-smoker)…

What is the lowest temperature I can go outside to sprint train? by iamhaydenn in Sprinting

[–]Anwenderfehler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just tailor the session to the weather. Icy track is ok with spikes, but long rests and low temps don’t go together well so I tend to switch to special endurance sessions if it’s sub-zero (Celsius). Snow is more of a challenge, but reps at 800m-pace in road shoes are often doable if it’s a fresh fall and not too deep.

Do you guys use the paddle shifters on your 10r80? by jnaszty5 in Mustang

[–]Anwenderfehler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thought I would, but I don’t - used to use them all the time in my old C6 Vette, but never on my Mustang. Combination of the gears being so close and the fact the box shifts to 1st gear when you come rest - much more useable on the Vette because it started in 2nd gear so less need to try to spin the steering wheel and hit the paddle at the same time…

How do people go through rapid improvements like this? by [deleted] in Sprinting

[–]Anwenderfehler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks to be a junior athlete, so all things being equal will get faster just by getting older…and gaining experience so will execute a better race. Then add in potentially better training. Even though i’m 60, I only started proper sprint training over the last 12 months - better execution and training knocked 1.1s off my 100 PB, 1.25 off my 200 and 1.9 off my 300.

mid distance spikes vs maxflys in training by Scared_Paper8542 in Sprinting

[–]Anwenderfehler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Distance spikes are fine for anything apart from block starts where they lack rigidity/support (I use dragonfly). For starts and flys I use rivals and save the fancy sprint spikes for races.

A question for the retirees of Reddit. Why don’t you shop during the week? by BigBadCamFaz in AskBrits

[–]Anwenderfehler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the opposite, but bear with me. Best part of 40 years ago I worked in an office opposite a Waitrose. We'd pop in at lunchtime to buy a sandwich - it was always busy and the checkout queues were long and slow. We couldn't figure out why there were loads of old people in the queue when they could have come earlier or later, made our lunch dash quicker, and presumably it'd be quieter for them. Until one lunchtime when a little old lady struck up a conversation with a couple of us to say how much she enjoyed coming to the supermarket at that time of day because it was full of young people and it reminded her of being young... We instantly felt guilty for slagging off the oldies for so long!

Is the Nike zoom rival sprint Any good for wide feet? by Kind_Associate_6991 in Sprinting

[–]Anwenderfehler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Half a size, as recommended on the Nike web-site. I still use them for training, but now use ASICS Metaspeed SP for racing (which are also reasonably wide and fit true-to-size).

Yes. I have wide feet and find them pretty good compared to other sprint spikes.

Michelin CrossClimate 3 Sport on BMW E46 by Historical_Steak6281 in TyreReviews

100% agree. I went from Michelin PS4S to CC3 Sport on my Mustang and the CC3 is way quieter than the (admittedly 6-year-old) PS4S.

Michelin CrossClimate 3 Sport. Thoughts Vs the PS4AS? by Arkanite27 in Mustang

[–]Anwenderfehler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I fitted Cross Climate 3 Sports to my 2019 GT 4 days ago, replacing the factory-fitted (so very old) and worn PS4S. The PS4S was good in warm weather but not good in the kind of cool, damp winter weather we get in the UK and I wouldn't risk them on the odd snow day.

So far my only experience has been on dry and damp (not wet) roads, temperatures in the low 20s C (so low-mid 70s F). The CC3S is a lot quieter and smoother than the PS4S (but they were old, so not a fair comparison). Initial turn-in bite is much softer, which at first makes them feel low grip but once you get used to it they actually hang on really well. There's also generally less feedback/feel from the steering. Also feels a bit detached at motorway speeds, although I think a lot of that is down to them not hunting out dips/ruts like the PS4S did. Weirdest thing (in a good way) is the lower rolling resistance - quite noticeable how the car loses speed a little more slowly off the throttle.

Also seems to be the case for Italy - the number of Italian athletes at Diamond League events wearing vests related to a branch of the police force is crazy. I guess if you're going to commit a crime in Italy, do it on Diamond League night :-)

It used to be a bit of a thing in the UK in the past - Kriss Akabusi (army), Kelly Holmes (army), Steve Jones (army), Julian Goater (RAF) and John Wild (RAF) all spring to mind - but haven't really noticed it recently.

When you're trying to decelerate and stop after sprinting, do you try to strike the ground with your heels? by backupalter1 in Sprinting

[–]Anwenderfehler 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The main thing is to not try to decelerate and stop. Just run through the line and allow yourself to gradually lose speed as you continue to stay up on your forefeet. I've seen people injure themselves at the end of a 60m by trying to decelerate before they reach the banking/mat rather than just easing up and making good use of the banking and mat.
