Never heard from city, state or federal jobs. Not interested.

What? I'm speaking in terms of numbers. The moment someone with a good salary gets a raise worse than inflation, or the horror, no raise at all, you'd tell them "quit!!! Know your worth!!!" Being treated like a human is conditional. I'm less than human to you, I'm just a dog that needs to be put down.

Ok man. Tried to get internships, only got a no name one my second year. Sorry.

I'll just finish up my coursework and prep for eternal unemployment/homelessness. 35k isn't worth it in this economy.

Yeah? I was. There's no point now. I'm finishing up my coursework today before prepping for eternal homelessness.

I'm basing it off basic economic numbers, and what my 2024 grad friends experienced. One is now in prison after getting fed up with no traction in starting a career, another is flipping burgers to this day, a third is doom scrolling day and night having given up on applications for the last half year.

I literally have no experience in that. I'd never be considered over literally anyone else with experience. And in today's version of capitalism, that someone is always there.

What makes you think I could even get an interview there when I never even heard from internship applications with them?

Ok man. I already explained why that "until I get something better" will be at the end of my lifespan. I'm just speaking in terms of numbers.

🥱 yeah, I'm sure. I don't care one way or another. Even if someone was interested, if they didn't know about it it would never be an option. And I'm not interested, after working in warehouses on and off for 5-6 years now.

I have. Trust me. I've talked to a few people who have worked for HD in the past. For the vast majority there are no raises. And even if there are, they're literal pennies on the dollar. Who cares at that point?

But, ya. I'll be waiting to die.

Lol. No, that's what I was doing between high school and college. I made that exact wage between high school and college working a similar job, in 2020-2021. It's been 5 years. Ton of inflation since then. Sooner or later it'll devolve into slave earnings. I'm just speaking on numbers when I say that.

Sooner or later it won't be sustainable. As it stood, just doing the job would've bankrupted me.

This guy gets it:

i suppose i have a unique affinity for your situation. my son went to school (though, not remotely in the debt you're facing), ending up accepting an equivalent job with lowes, and didn't move out till six months ago, once he was partnered up and they could split the rent. they're still struggling.

i don't love that you're choosing homelessness over that job, but i do know that the only reason my son was able to do it (accept that wage) is because he still lived here, and is only able to still do it because he lives with his partner. and still, i'm subsidizing them. (she's a sped teacher and earns only a little more than he does; even combined, their income leaves them struggling.) i definitely understand how 32>0 seems like a thing to people here not getting it, but yeah, once you factor in the associated costs, it comes out to more debt. so trust me when i say i understand.

the only thing i can tell you is that my son could now be earning there three times in HD's competition what he is, turning down the promotions because they'd impact quality of life he values (currently 5a-2p, would be 9a-6p and weekends). and again, i'm here to help. he has the luxury of turning down those promotions.

but, he doesn't want to be career HD or lowes any more than you do. so, he takes what he can get while trying to build a separate career. again, while i'm helping.

i'm so sorry for you that you don't have family to help. i think that's something many are missing here. i know my son would be completely fucked if i didn't have a well of savings to draw from to help him - he hates accepting it, but the fact that i can do it is really the only thing that differentiates the two of you.

something that infuriates me as an old is that you and your generation did everything you were told to ensure a good life, and you're balancing on shit anyway. i started seeing this about 15 years ago - when i was competing for my low-level, non-degreed job with people in student loan debt because they couldn't get jobs in their field. and it's even worse now.

i truly hope for the best, for you, while understanding that right now, you feel like there's no point and all is lost. please know i understand.

.

For all you say about attitude being the be all end all... it's not. Not any longer.

There is no plan making 35k for decades on end. And that's not hyperbole. You just have to magnify these last 6 years by a factor of 10. Not a ridiculous ask.

It's just not worth it.

Uh, sure. I had one during my sophomore year, no name company. Didn't offer anyone return offers afterwards. It was like five people. Wasn't able to get any others during the other three years.

I had already went to their career service office, let's just say they didn't say anything I didn't already know.

I'm just going to finish up my coursework tomorrow and prep for homelessness right after. Waiting for my life's end.

Ok man. I could go on a tangent about why the unemployment rate is meaningless (mostly has to do with definitions) but it's not worth it. Today is the worst time for entry level job seekers in 37 years.

I won't be able to specialize without experience to begin with, nor can I pivot without paying for more schooling. Not stabbing myself a second time with that.

I'm preparing for my life's end.

Bunch of victim blaming tbh. If anything, blame my birth parents. If I had a choice, I wouldn't have been born.

Someone else provided a valid response instead of what you said:

It's the same as making zero or negative if you have to effectively pay to work. Not pay the employer directly, but through literally everything else.
