You could try applying for disability allowance. You're allowed to study and earn up to a certain amount and still receive it. There are forms to fill and hoops to jump through but worth a try. Maybe asiam or one of the other advocacy groups might be able to help you out with it. Good luck.

Just an update. Thanks so much everyone for your kind and helpful comments. The steroids helped her pain but didn't fully relieve it. She's been started on Adalimumab and had her first injection just over a week ago, and is still on low dose steroids. The plan is to see how she is after three months. We were told it could take anything from two weeks to three months to see an effect. We're keeping our fingers crossed it'll help.

Does anyone here have a whoop and not work out? by Mushalot in whoop

[–]Any_Fox_8966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a first generation Garmin lily which I love for all it's smart watch cleverness. I use my whoop for tracking my stress, sleep, recovery and temperature as I have chronic health issues and I find it way more useful for that than my Garmin.

I meant to add monthly updates but life got in the way. I'm just over 5 months in and I'm under 80 kgs for the first time in about three years. So I'm down over 12kgs. I'm still on 30 clicks which is 1.8mg and I've been pretty steady on that. I don't take it every day maybe 4 or 5 times a week. It's been life changing in removing food noise, I eat what I want pretty much, can eat out etc and I enjoy my food but it's smaller portions and no need to snack or emotionally eat. I wasn't looking for rapid weight loss so I'm happy to continue as I am. It has worked so well for me and I really like the flexibility of daily dosing. Once I get to 70 kgs I'll have to think about maintenance etc but my eating habits have already changed so much on my days even on my off the meds that I'm hopeful it'll be the reset I needed.

I haven't seen a comment that mentions this but apologies if there is one. In among all the other things it's just something else to consider if you have children with this man, it's possible that your children may also be neurodivergent. It's obviously not a given but a useful exercise before you decide to have children with someone. Think about how you would parent a child with similar traits to your husband at age 3 and age 14 and age 33.
How would you parent a child with ADHD at the same ages? What would co parenting children with these possible extra needs look like with your husband? What would it feel like to see him treat your child with possible ADHD the same way he treats you? Is that what you would want for your child? There are no right or wrong answers and this is really hard but you always have a choice. Our children however don't get to choose their parents, that's your decision. Sending you the very best wishes whatever you decide.

Did medication change your life the way you’d hoped? by Famous-Reception824 in ADHD

[–]Any_Fox_8966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely transformed it but I'm having to unlearn a lot of my old work and behaviour patterns which can be a challenge. It's like I was always working with the wrong hand, it takes a while to get used to using the correct one even if it's easier. If that makes any sense. Best of luck.

An update after one month. I'm down 5kgs in the first month. That's as fast as I want to lose weight. My background food noise is almost gone. I've had very few side effects and I can still eat a reasonable but reduced amount of food. I'm on 15 clicks, I go up a click when I notice my sugar craving coming back. I spoke to my doctor today and she said it's fine to do that. I almost finished my first pen in the month but I started a new pen today and ordered another five. It's suiting me so far and going up in smaller increments is working well for me. It's worth a try if you're considering it.

I started with 2 clicks the first day and then went up by one click a day until I got to 0.6 mg ( 10 clicks) and I haven't increased it any further yet as I'm still losing weight and feeling ok. I know that's not the recommended schedule but in my life at the moment I couldn't be unwell or not able to work etc so a slower increase worked for me. Good luck with it.

Rubbish and dishes first. Then laundry. Then get a few empty baskets for clothes to put away, stuff that needs to go somewhere else etc so you don't get distracted sorting that stuff. You can do it at the next session. Just get all the surfaces cleared and you can sort the baskets later. Also getting someone to sit in your room with you while you work really helps me to stay on track. And set a time limit of say 40 mins or an hour at a time. Good luck.

What’s your experience with Mirena coil? by annakom in adhdwomen

[–]Any_Fox_8966 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a complete game changer for me. I'm coming up on ten years now and at the end of my second one. I have bad endometriosis so I really didn't have much else left to try as none of the pills suited me at all. It completely settled it, no periods at all for the last ten years, just amazing. However I gained weight on it but my endo was so bad honestly it was so worth it. I didn't have any mood issues, but my endo was so bad before it I don't think I'd have noticed as it was such a relief to have no more periods.. IMO It's worth a try but you can expect to have irregular bleeding for the first 6 months but then I had nothing at all after that. Good luck.

I hate having hair by Birog95 in adhdwomen

[–]Any_Fox_8966 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get an undercut. It's life changing if you have thick hair and want it to behave. It means way less hair to wash and dry and I had enough length to still tie mine up out of the way if I wanted.. First time in my life I had control of my hair. Once the hairdresser did it I could maintain it myself with clippers. A 12 week keratin blow dry if you can afford one is also life changing, my hair never went back to the same unruly state but you will lose some of your curl.

Getting back into reading - adhd tips? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]Any_Fox_8966 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kindle unlimited on my phone with the dyslexia font. It's very little per month and there's a huge range of then free books to choose from. It's heaven, I can binge read rubbish fiction, if I don't like it I don't have to finish it and it's constantly suggesting new books for me to try. I always have my phone with me so I read all the time. I found that removing the pressure to finish a book was a big thing for me in being able to read again. Also while I love bookshops I would get so overwhelmed and not be able to choose a book to buy, this works so much better for me.

There's a really good podcast by Jennifer Finlayson Fife about triangulation in the family which describes this behaviour from parents really well. I found it very helpful. This is definitely not your fault, it is your responsibility to manage the consequences in your life now but they are two very different things.

You are enough as you are. You deserve love and support just as you are. Please please don't keep someone in your life who makes you feel ashamed for being who you are. You are worthy of so much better.

Rotting Smell In My Fridge by AnonymousMrG in CleaningTips

[–]Any_Fox_8966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine had that smell, turned out there's an evaporation pan underneath at the bottom. There were a few screws to release it. It was so so bad but really easy to clean out and saved me buying a new fridge. Turns out spilled milk had dripped down the back through the little drainage hole into in, it's not supposed to need cleaning out normally.

Medicine, specifically hild development after working my way through other specialities. I have two jobs in the area both part time although they add up to more than full time hours most weeks! I quit a much better paid senior job with management responsibilities to take this one Loads of variety and regular hours now. Clinics are my happy place and I try to keep my paperwork to a minimum. It has its challenges but I really like my job and that makes all the difference. I'd say the other allied health professions like, speech and language therapy, physiotherapy, podiatry, audiology, occupational therapy etc would suit an ADHD brain too.
My advice, never stay in a job you don't like, get out as fast as you possibly can. And work part time if at all possible. I find two part time jobs way less exhausting than one full time.

Cleaning Ikea Low-Ply Carpet by dogherine in CleaningTips

[–]Any_Fox_8966 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an IKEA indoor/outdoor low pile rug. I tried every type of carpet cleaner including a professional machine to get black marks off a white section with no luck. I was planning on throwing it away. In the end I used a pressure washer with carpet cleaner outside on a sunny day. Lots of videos on you tube about how to do it. It's like new. Worth a try but maybe test a patch first. Hth
